View Full Version : *Waves goodbye*
Dear Forummersersers,
It was fun, but now I have to go. Between real life, alphatesting Guild Wars (www.guildwars.com, it will pwn WoW) and painting my brand-new WH40K army (Tau, aka "by-the-time-I-am-done-shooting-even-the-cleaning-lady-wont-find-your-remains-anymore"), not to mention wedding planning and spending time with my fiancee there won't be much time left for reading the forum. I've been kinda absent lately (at least for my usual posting habits) and I've also lost the drive to play Diablo II. I always thought that 1.10 would kill my playing habits, and after a brief but bloody reign on the ladder, it did. 1.09 was my "game", 1.10 is a messy affair where the atmosphere in act 5 is totally destroyed (Quill rats in the foothills, BOOOOO!)
So, in other words, DII will soon get de-installed, my characters will most likely suicide themselves on Deletion Day, and the pixels will fade away. I might on occasion hop in again on the forums here, but its unlikely I'll join the OT as several guild wars forums keep me rather busy (rpgstars for example, where SonofRah is moderating).
It was a good run, and I had lots of fun. *waves*

I didnt know you on a personal level but I can say Ive enjoyed reading some of your posts . I too yearn for the day that Diablo 2 will release me from its evil claws and I can fade off into the night . Good luck on future endeavors and Fare Thee Well !!!
:xflash:
Bye bye, it was fun reading, but you know, its a game, and real life is NOT.
Greetings to your (almost)wife, i hope she accepts compu game addicts more than mine!
Bye bye to you and good luck with real life :hanky:
Yes, what DarkSide said - and take care. One thing is for certain: I hear a breath of relief right now from the people who were cowering from the bear that used to prowl the realms.
So sad...another of the great players stepping down :hanky:
All the best
det
Thx for your time here at forum :)
Had a quick look at Guildwars and I have to say it looks very impressive and interesting. Will check our rpgstars when I get time...
Due to be released the second half of 2004, so maybe mid 2005 then
Might be the successor to Diablo2 for me too, you never know ;)
Enjoy life /Magnus
I will miss your ides on the pvp/pk-front. Some ppl will maybe be happy that you not messing on the realm anymore but with so many lame tactics out there it hurts to lose a good one. Good luck with the girl and hope you get a nice time with the other stuff you do.
//Tloopz
goodluck :) and congrats on being engaged ( yeah i dont know you hehe )
what size is your tau army? :) hope its not over like 2k points or you'll be painting forever lol :)
gl with everything :)
goodbye Stefan
finally i do u the favored honor to use Stefan instead of baranor :)
i agree 1.09 was cool but a bit too easy. 1.10 is crap but a bit harder and we cant mix them both up... a pitty. the fresh start from scratch is still enjoyable but soon i reach the peak of items which volu already topped ;)
its strange that i already think about pvp again after the addicting 1.09 streak.
it was really fun hunting together in the few runs we shared.
i am happy that u lost motivation in d2 simply because we all know how addicting the game is.
good luck Stefan

Goodbye Stefan, it was a pleasure to have you posting with us here on our hardcore forum, you will be missed.
Good luck to you in whatever you do in the future, all the best!

Sad to see you go, Mr. Bear. Maybe we'll run into each other in that one thing you mentioned (gotta send in my NDA). Man, I'm lazy.

Take care Stefan / Baranor,
Good luck w/ your future endeavors... I myself have been married for a little over 4 years. So it is a juggling act...
Enjoy your time w/ Guildwars.... Maybe I'll check it out...
Will miss all your guides.....
Wing
Aaaah Stefan... I fear I'm not far behind you...
You'll be missed.
cheers bear.
Goodbye and cu soon ;)
We had lots of fun, but I understand you quit with the lefthand work done by blizzard, and without interest in a game, this forum is probably not very interesting in the long run either.
I am sure you would catch up on me itemwise jedi, but I am saving strenght for the next ladder season :)

Baranor:
Good choice. D2 is definitely getting old, and now that every single noob out there is using Chicken again in the pubbies (thanks Haxxors, ruin my fun) PKing is just not fun anymore.
Nice knowing ya, and your info was always spot on good info. Good luck!

Though we never met in-game, I've enjoyed reading your posts Baranor. You will be missed, though I doubt with your busy schedule you'll be missing us. ;)
Take care, congrats on your upcoming wedding and may life bring you all the unique items you didn't find in game! :D

There was never a time when I said "I am to busy to read Barry's post" if you posted I read it! Your guides for the poor man were great and it is tragic that I never got to meet you in game. Have a good one Barry.

Stefan,
GL with the RL stuff. You know, I am not going to bother with a farewell thread like this, but my d2 days are finished as well. In retrospect, I have no freaking idea how I managed to stuff 2-3+ hours a day on battlenet and get anything done at home.
The last month or so my main playing machine has been down for various rebuilds and OC's, but I think I am at a stable point again now, so hopefully I'll be meeting up with you in the lands of Guild Wars soon.
And Mac, hurry up and get that NDA in - the designers really need some input on the rock design.
-Bass
Strong opinions and strong information to back them up. A maverick build style creator. A solid, skilled pk. Tons of contributions here, you will be missed Stefan. Have fun with guildwars and good luck with all your real-life activities mate. :)
Bai Bai Stefan.
I hope to see you soon in guildwars, as soon as I am able to play it believe I will.
I had a blast playing d2 with you and I hope it will be as fun in guildwars. just hurry up and finish the damn game, the game I am playing now looks like it will go p2p very soon, and with me not being 18 and all :(
Anyways I hope we keep in touch else where than here

I must say stefan, baranor aka "teh uber polar bear roaming on europe agging ears near you", you will be missed. Your intelligence and your ideas are all very good, hopefully, the fact that you've got a good head on your shoulders, degree under the belt, and a wife by your side, will help you strive throughout life. It is a pity that nobody will be able to take over in your place, surely europe is mucho safer. Pity.
GOod luck brother, have fun wth life, and don't forget all the fun that this game brought you before you quit.

Ahh, so you've finally decided to call it a day? Well we'll have to see who else we can interest in GW (considering we've got a few folks from here interested and visiting already), and you never know - I may yet get into the alpha, or beta (when that arrives), so I'll see you there in game :)
Anyways I've been thinking (most likely will - I'll have to talk to you about it sometime me thinks) of setting up a guild in the game for GAT/Misfits/BtK folks who come across.
So see you around at RPGStars, as well as in-game (eventually)

Asta La Vista Baby.
Actually I'm on the same path as you.
I havent played in about a month, and I havent even missed the game. It just got boring. I may still lurk on the forums from time to time, but thats about it.
And I also got a new addiction. WARMACHINE. What a blast. Ans the best thing is I dont have to spend time in front of the freaking 'puter screen.
Best of luck

I was honoured and humbled to have the chance to share this game with you Barry. For a 100 dimwit cheaters on Bnut, there is a pearl like you. Well, Bears are pearl-coloured, right? ^^;.
And people like you made it all worthwile.
Take care, may your trip in this life be rich, pleasant, eventful in the right way, and may you not eat your fiancee. Well, not that way ;).

Adios Baranor. Thanks for your advise and humor over the years. Your 1.09 werebear guide is one of the best articles ever posted on this site, and your short stories always entertaining.
Live long. Live well.

So long. Never knew you, but it was a pleasure to read your posts, even when you rant it was generally well thought-out.
Also too bad to have another honorable PK leave the game- there are few enough of those as it is.

its not P2P :)
Woa there. Enough with the hero worshipping already ^_^.
About the Tau: Currently its 500 points, and roughly 50% painted. My 1500 pts army will eventually consist of 36 fire warriors (say bye-bye to anything with T8, or Armor 11) with leaders with markerlights and target locks, some 3 XV8 swuits with plasma rifle, missile pod and multi-tracker (killnig the elites), 3 xv8 suits with burst cannon, flamer and multi-tracker (infantry-support ^_^), 3 broadsides with smart missiles and twin linked railguns (gimmie a ta(rget)nk), 6 stealth suits with burst cannons... ideal for flanking stuff and I should just have room for an ethereal and 8 gun drones to pin stuff and blow them to shreds.
The XV8 plasma-guys and also be split into 2 teams, meaning an elite choice of 2 and the 3rd one as bodyguard for my Shas'o. Did I mention I dislike the pathfinders because I HAVE to take a tank with them yet? After that, I'll be buying another fire warrior squad and doubling up the number of broadsides in the army.
@rach I won't, and I will ^_^.
@ Everyone
Thanks for the hugs, kisses, but please, no more melodramatic "bnet will never be the same". I ran into a few of you, but its quite likely that more played with me in a game but never saw me. 95% of my time on bnet was spend under the accounts Dal-Kurzak and Shalla-Quickbow.... not even remotely related to Baranor ^_^, and I liked that very much for safety reasons.
Don't worry, I'll be around sometimes ^_^. I'll finish off my HC duelling build thingie too.
