I was wondering today if d2x is the best online game ever made? Personnaly after years playing it i still enjoy it like the first day i played (i just wish i can say the same about my girlfriend........no..... just kidding on this issue).Anyone knows if there will be a diablo 3?Knowing patch 1.10 was final on d2 and it changed many aspects of the games,if by any chances d3 comes out in the future what will it look like?

We need a ladder reset!

Things drop to well to let it run much longer as I am almost unbareable loaded with good stuff and I started xpac a good 3-4 months after you all as I started with Classic at 1.10 release.

Just to give another other angle to STINGERS opinion about droppings. Well, I try to put off time now and then and play, and as soon as I hit hell I tend to die. Either it's a particulary nasty boss, a dirrrty tp/wp or it's just bad fkn luck with the lagg.

So I got pretty much nuttin' in my stash worth mentioning. Oh, I found my first Ali Baba today. I guess I'll die before I get around to mule it, haha.

Personnaly, uber finds seem to go to everyone else except me. Part of that reason, however, is I havent walked around too much in hell yet. But someone is getting good stuff and I have been lucky to trade for gems or recieve as gifts.

I have to agree that this game has totally captivated me. And its not that I dont have a life either. I work, I have a family I support, and I have other outside interests. But as far as relaxing with a good hobby, I'd rather do this than watch mind numbing tv. The idea of midgets vs. camel racing on Fox comes to mind. The other bonus is the online interaction with friends you can meet. My f/list runneth over, and thats a good thing.

Yes, I believe this is the best online game ever.

No other game in history has made me play so much.

Main reasons for me is the hardcore aspect, pvp aspect, and online interaction aspect.

I 100% concur with this - I also have a family and I only play when I can, but it's addictive kinda like golf when you hit that ..one..great ..shot...you gotta have more.

I haven't played many games, and Diablo is the only one I've played online, so my opinion maybe doesn't count. I think it's a great game though. After playing for a couple years, I still have a lot to learn and do. I have a job and family, but I have played quite a bit - sometimes to the detriment of my other obligations.

I'm afraid to try Evercrack or most other online games. Diablo has been plenty addictive for me!

Uhm, patch has only been out for what, 4-5 months. I know for a fact that you've been playing d2x for more than a single month as you were already playing it when I came back in early December.

But anyway... yes, ladder reset please.

BW BW BW BW BW BW BW BW BW BW BW BW.
No question about it.
This game is annoyingly addictive, but so are slots/VLTs. You don't see many people claiming that slots and VLTs are the greatest games ever.
BW on the other hand is a game of skill, not of time. You don't NEED to spend countless hours MFing to be a top BW player the same way that you do with D2. Once you've got the game figured out you don't NEED to keep playing for hours every day, working on specific skills in BW is fun. Trying to find a shako by doing a couple hundred meph runs is not fun, just addictive.

And yeah, ladder reset please so I can get myself re-addicted...I need a D2 fix o_O
EDIT:
And WoW will be D3 the same way that WC3 was SC2. (IE it wasn't, and it won't be)

Ladder reset, & perhaps I'll be back (at least 'full-on'). But I doubt it. I'll probably stay in Asia.
HC hasn't been the same for almost a year now: 1.10 changed that for a lil' bit, but now the kids are back - stronger than ever (call me 'ageist', I care not).
I like the dueling/pk/pkk scene (not that I'm any good ;) ) - and there are just too many painful kiddies in the US realms, I'm sorry to say. 'Tis spoiled for me.

game that i've spent the best bang for my money? Has to be this one, although I've effectively played the game out.

Best online game? Thats a hard question, as frankly any game that can be played online can be included and there is alot of talent out there, and any game that is played entirey online would be ahead of this (due to design).

The reason I've kept on playing this game has more to do with the people I've met than the game itself I feel - also diablo is quite a good stressbuster at the end of a day in that it requires almost no intelligence to play at all:D

It does seem to have a weird kind of addictive nature that I can't quite put my finger on though - It's like I know I've played it to death and there is nothing new to do, but I still log on to see whats happening - as I said weird.

However once WoW and Guildwars come along and I've been playing 1 of them for a couple of years, Diablo will probably seem horrendously basic.

Best game - I don't think so, More like the crack cocaine of the games world - don't know why but can't stop playing .........

I wouldn't go far as to say d2 is the best game I've ever played, but it certainly is close. I've probably spent more hours playing d2 than any other game I own combined.

That says something about a game.

I played this gone to death in SC then sold it on ebay. Then I got the itch and bought the game again in March 03 waiting for the 1.10 patch.

Instead of SC, I started playing HC and haven't looked back.

SC is hack, die, run back to body.

HC is hack, run, hack, run, ask for friends to join your party.

Its the most addictive game ever, at least untill Guildwars comes out (www.guildwars.com). No online fees, but its still a MMORPG, and yes, those screenies look the same as on my PC, and I have a crap pc (I'm alphatestring guildwars). It will blow the competition away, trust me on that.

The best three games ever in my humble opinion are:

Diablo 2
Descent 3
StarCraft

Diablo 2 is the single most addictive game I have ever played, and probably the game the one I have played the most. There is always something more to do in the game, some new item to find, something. And there are still so many aspects to the game that I haven't even explored yet. For instance, I have never played a Paladin or a Druid. I have never tried PKing. I've never made a Javazon or a Singer barb. I would like one day to finish the bone necro I started. Of course, after a while it does get boring, because it's usually the same old thing, and so I leave it alone for a while until I get the urge to play again. There's always something new.

The Descent series is the single best FPS series I have ever played, with heavy emphasis on Descent 3. A very steep learning curve just to be able to fly properly, and nearly impossible to master, this game is worth the effort needed. Moreover, this is the only truly three dimensional game I have ever played. You can glide up, down, left, right, forwards or backwards, you can look left, right, up, down and roll left or right. The typical ASDW controls become AZSDFE and most pilots use a joystick with a twist feature. I've played lots of FPS games, and trust me when I say that nothing quite compares to two ships trichording around each other in a big room shooting rounds of mass driver projectiles at each other, or a fusion dogfight in a tight tunnel. Nothing is as exhilerating. The only problem is that it's a dying game and there won't ever be a sequel.

StarCraft is another game that just never gets old. During my last SC stint, I spent nearly all of my time playing Use Map Settings games that pushed the game to it's limits. Stacking games, "Matrix" games and "Defense" games are a lot of fun when you get tired of fighting computers. You can continuously get better at the game too. My friend and I fought and won against 3 terran comps and a 1 'toss comp in a MGH melee. It was amazingly fun. One of the best single player story lines as well.

Honorable mentions would be:

Baldur's Gate 2
The Dark Forces (Jedi Knight) Series
Total Annihilation

Does anyone remember a rather old FPS game called Marathon (also Marathon 2&3 were made), which was created by Bungie? The first was released on mac, but the rest were also offered on the PC.

This game had the most detail I had ever seen in a FPS series. Excellent plotline and the depth they went into was amazing. This old game rates just under Half-Life (number 1) for my personal favorite FPS games.

I have to say that I didn't play much PC games before D2. There were maybe 4-6 games that I would play roughly 3 months and then move on to the next one.

D2 I played for close to two years without breaks, but for 3 months now I quit. I browse the forums occasionally but I definately don't play any more. I have a friend that keeps my accounts active, I am thinking of starting again in summer.

I have to say that D2 brought me more fun gaming time than any other game, it seems primitive to get happy when a virtual item drops, but there is something about it that gets you hooked from the first moment.

That's the greatest mystery about D2 for me...

Frist of all, diablo2 is not a game, its a drug.

You want best stuff so you mf run, you die, new mf char, you mf, you die, new mf char, mf run, you die, new mf char, you mf.

When you die with shako you want another back because you dont wanna wear a crappy peasant crown.. so.. you.. MF :D

beside diablo which I realy like , there is another game I'm playing over 2 years , Team Fortress Classic one of the best mods of half life , such a great game with such a low graphics ( compare to the games that out the stores these days )
A game that you can play and enjoy even though the graphics isn't the greatest just prove you how good the game is.

I have never played diablo 1 but some friends told me it was better then diablo 2.......

Total Annihilation was nearly 10 years ahead of it's time. It's been almost that long and I STILL can't get it to run perfectly smoothly on my computer, even though I'm running on a P4 at 2.4 GHz.

Some of the map sizes for example... remember "Metal Isles?" That map was 40X40. In Blizzard map terms, that's like saying it was 2048 X 2048! There was an ocean between the islands. Games would last as long as 6 hours on that map, and only because you would eventually build 20 nuke silos.

The method of building in TA was genious. I have never seen a better system of making buildings than the idea of "Nano-lathing." Basically, your commander would build factories or whatever by spraying billions of these nanobots that all had been programmed to make the basic blueprint for the building. Then the others would fill in the gaps and eventually you'd have your building. Units were made the same way and just watching things being made was awe inspiring.

TA had units covered. There were something like 500 separate units, including buildings. Hell, for a time there was "Unit of the week" by Cavedog. Screw map of the week. Hahaha. There were Kbots (think mechs), vehicles, airplanes, hovercraft, ships, submarines and seaplanes. The unit cap was 500 with the patch (buildings included). And it was surprisingly easy to reach that if you were making an armada of air units, or just defending.

The other thing TA had that no other game had were LONG RANGED CANNONS. Some maps could be won without a single battle ever taking place. Someone would make a Big Bertha and just snipe away at the enemy base. You had to watch out for that.

The resource system was radically different from any game I've played. In most games, you harvest resources which in turn are used to purchase units. In TA, the resource system was based more on supply, surplus or deficit. Your maximum supply of either energy or metal (I loved how they made the two resources this fundamental) was determined by how much storage you had, but it went up or down depending on your production and consumption. So a metal extractor for example might churn out +3.0 metal each "round" while maybe you had a bunch of factories that were each using 1.5 metal. So you might have -4.5 metal, meaning your metal reserves would go down by that amount until you reached zero. At which point, a lot of waiting was done. Some weapons (like the Vulcan cannon) required disgusting amounts of energy to be able to fire continuously. To the tune of -16 000. Considering solar generators gave +20 on sunny planets...

Great game.

oooo to many good memories flooding back now. ^_^

Actually silk - the multiplayer level of the game reached a point where TA became quite a frenetic fast paced game. Massive base build never really occured much, since the game became so much based on aggression, that players were attacking each other fromt he first 2 minutes, and constantly throughout the game.

In the end it came to which player could control & defend their resources, through denying their opponent territory, as compared to building impenetrable defenses.

The community for the game is still active - though i left it nigh on 9 months ago. Not many people play now - maybe 60-75 ppl on Zone per night. Shame - i guess i could be easily tempted to play it again.

Diablo 2 is just incredible. There is no other game that I have played with such addiction (and still play) for three years.

Other games in my long crareer that got me totally hooke (and we are talking going back to good ole Amiga and even C64 days here) :

Loderunner (150 levels and you could not save, made it thru 142 of them)
Bards Tale 3
Dungeon Master
Cadaver
Incubation (that one was already on the PC)
Diablo 1
Caesar 3

lader resets would simply make it better. I get bored fast when I get too many high lvls and too good of gear so I switch relms and go basicaly friendless. It isnt as fun this way but it is once again the strugle to get better and very addictive.

I want quarterly resets!

I really don't think you can call D2 the greatest unless you've played everquest (possibly ultima onlin

EDIT:
@ Total
Man I love that game! The Krogoth is just the most wicked unit in a game ever
Think 30 feet tall mech godzilla with a laser eye that basicly kills any unit with 1 shot, 4 missile launchers for both ground and air targets and to finnish of a nast y cannon somewhat like a short range artillery piece
It's like
Build one of those, send it into the enemy base and it'll win the game for you on it's own
