some other information
pit runs - 5-12 min ave time
andy runs - 3-5 min ave time
meph runs - 2-4 min ave time
no mh or other hacks were used.
- 2 player game with barb giving bo
- merc had 168% mf gear the whole time.
I'm not sure how everyone else's runs go but finding and killing meph seemed a whole lot easier than andy for me. Andy's wandering minions at times were much more distracting (mutliple auras like fanat,might...etc) than meph's minions (if there were any). Also finding durance 3 was a whole lot faster than getting to cat 4.

Ok, I must be doing something wrong...
You averaged MORE than 1 unique per run over 50 runs with 262 mf.
I have 250 mf and averaged 1 unique every 6 runs. wtf.
Luck. He might kill more monsters, superuniques or champions than you.

Hmmm, not as high as items as I would have thought.
I might stick with my ESP runs for now with 518% + 144% mf.

I've been running Andy, Mausolem, Tristram and the Tunnels. I have 435% mf on my Sorceress (not sure on Merc) and after 35 runs I think I'm averaging 3 to 4 uniques per run (mostly junk stuff though). I'm not ladder, so I won't some of the stuff you found. I will say though that I found a Harliquin Crest and Windhammer just crusing around in act II.
I figure someday I'll get really lucky. For now it's just getting me replacement items in case a "bad thing" happens.

Hmm. If he's killing monsters along the way, I'm not quite sure how he's getting Andy done in 3 minutes without any maphack. It usually takes me 10 minutes just to get to her, but of course I'm not palying a sorc so I actually have to kill things along the way (no tele).
Nice summary. Think I'll quite the stupid Pit runs now, I've yet to get anything really good from them (of course my mf is only 145%, though, so its not surprising).

Yes, this is all on hc ladder (useast).
For andy runs I tele straight to cat4 skipping all monsters. When I'm in the final room I usually try and focus on killing only andy since all others die when she dies. The only time I do kill the surrounding monsters is when they have killer auras like might/fanat that act on everything in the room including andy. I can probably get to cat4 in less than a minute. I use wizzy with a pair of fast cast rings. I was also using viper's magi for even more fcr but then I found skulder's and switched over. :) Killing andy herself doesn't take that long either with meteor. The hard part is keeping my merc alive from her poison. I try and make andy focus hitting me since I can pop potions on myself a lot easier.
She may appear to drop a lot of uniques in my runs but virtually everything there can be found on nm or normal so imho it wasn't really worth it. Also make note that this was a 2-player game so drops 'should' be more than single player.
In the end finding and killing meph was much easier/faster than andy and the drops were a whole lot better. Based on these results I'll probably continue to run meph and pits.
If I get motivated enough I'll try running other places and report my findings :)

the ting about pitting is generally u need to have 5 or more people in game to get more drops from the normal monsters. from my experiance its the random monsters in the pit, not eve bosses or minions, that have dropped the best stuff.

I dunno, I've been Pitting in bigger games recently just to lvl my Javazon and the drops have been horrible. I was at least finding a few things when I was soloing. My friend who found Tal's Armor and Ber doing Pit also suggested that I run it solo if I was only in it for the items... larger games for exp.

I've found Harle and a Bonehew from Andy, so she CAN drop good things too, and is by far the safest "boss-dropper" if one's char isn't all that hot on Meph.
A tip to all the Andy runners: If you think your Merc dies too much to poison, try and give him an antidote potion right before you engage her. That will raise his max poison defense as well as his poison res for 30 seconds. It will make a difference.
I've also contemplated trying some Meph runs, but my char is a bit on the weak side. Is it alot scarier teleporting Durance than Catacombs? It's NOT fun when you teleport through a Mana burn pack, packing Might/Fana/Extra strong. And it won't matter if you hvae 300% FCR if you are unlucky, especially as the minions also get mana burn in 1.10. What I wonder is: Would a 2700hp (10% DR) sorc with get out of such a pack of maulers in time?

Just got my mf% CL/orb sorc ready for andy runs and poor old Ip is sick of getting poisoned to death continuously.

The sorc I used had bo which brought her hp to just about 2000. I didn't have any problems tele in durance through all my runs (70 fcr). Only once did I get jammed in the wrong crowd with mana burn and some other aura's and a quick juvie and tele got me out fine. I think my life dropped to a little less than half on 1 or maybe 2 hits. I don't use ES or shiver armor either.
I thought teleporting through durance wasn't too bad overall compared to cats. The areas in durance 2 are nice and large as opposed to cat 2 and cat 3. In the catacombs there are many narrow places and corners where I sometimes get hung up teleporting when my mouse is in a black area. I don't have that problem in durance since all the rooms are large and connected.
btw, thanks for the antidote tip...I totally forgot about that :)

A sorc with ~1k hp, EShield, and max block should have very little trouble teleporting Meph. You will once in a great while get clipped by a Mauler or Doll, but mana burn is the only real problem.

Yup. Problem is; I don't have max block... 2700 hp and 10% DR would have to do it anyway I guess.
Oh, what's Mephs most dangerous attack? And should I use the merc, as in: Will he live through Maph?

@Dire_wulf... What kind of math are you doing? I'm counting 41 uniques in 50 andy runs, less than that for the pit/meph.

I put a whole column of antidote potions on my belt if I'm running Andy. I give my merc one just before we hit her and will usually give him another one or two during the fight. They are cheap to buy so I am liberal with them. As soon as I see him turn green and his health start to dip much I hit him with another one. Thing is, I want to make sure he's alive for the kill so he gets the experience points.
I'd have to time myself, but it seems like I do a PIT run a lot faster than an Andy run. Seems like it always takes me forever to get to Cat 4. One thing that will make a big difference is whether or not you kill anything in Tamhoe Highlands. I skip everything out there and run along the path straight to the pit. That's mainly because if I find any charms I want to be sure they are from the Pit and not from Tamhoe (for cubing purposes).

Well mf can be fickle. The pit will not drop the most but can drop some of the best items. It does not have the results that one gets from andy.
9 runs of Andy and i have been on a streak. Skulders, soj, and harlems. and a bunch of other stuff, My mf if merc kills is 350. 300 if i kill. I use a concentration barb and if i do not kill monsters on the way i can get to andy in three minutes. There is some tricks, always go right useally is the quickest. I upgraded the skulders for 1400 defense :)
