Hola misfits. Well, I stayed up waaay late getting everything set up last night, took longer then I thought. Things seem to be running pretty smoothly, so I'm anxious to test out D2 tonight. I don't know if the comp alone will make a huge difference, but I will soon find out.

got my new sorc up and runnin and i must say she is fun to play. a few minor equipment adjusments and she should be relatively invulnerable (barring a few exceptions)

ultimately she will have (unpartied):

golem (clay or iron depending on equip)
grizzly (wpn)
def merc with hf aura (lvld from 1 ..he is lvl81 now)
9-11k fire dmg per hit
fana aura (wpn)
1-1.3k ts dmg (still workin on mastery)
eshield and 75%block
1.6k life with ability to shift to werebear and having 2.7k life



right now her resists arent up to par (lacking a maras)

im considering going with CoH and metalgrid and losing the Stone and maras
this will give me max res in hell and a nice iron golem, only thing i will lose is about 4-500def (+the defiance bonus)

i will most likely test it out, but i must say i never thought a meleeress would be so much fun (highly expensive ,yes, but the most fun ive had in a long time)

on a side note : jim i changed all passes, rocket science suggests you would know what i changed em to ;)

Dubby, sounds like a blast! :lol: I'm not sure how you went on your spells either. Enchant is 60, TS is another 40? How much ES and TeleK? How do you handle FI? I guess the TS + phys dmg is sufficient. How do you handle IM? What's your crowd control? I guess tank and take them out one at a time.

im lvl 82 with all skill quests done

most of my killing is done by teleporting and spamming static and then shifting and smackin around as a bear, fi are no prob at all cuz the phys is decent and ts is a nice compliment. havent had to test im yet.


the only gripe i have about the build is she cant teleport and cast static as a bear.


i know she wont be able to kill everything but she is so fun to play.


her gear is as follows (with optional in parenthesis)

shako (crown of ages, andy, that other +2)
+2 sorc ammy (maras, metalgrid)
"beast" axe
viscertuant heater
"stone" archon 2021def (CoH armor)
magefist (may go hellmouth or ias/res gloves)

on switch is CTA and lidless

also note that in my stash is enchat gear, which is why i can switch magefist out, this gear is "leaf" staff and +ench ormus if i want boosting me up to 10-12k fire dmg .

another possibility instead of beast runeword u can use passion (the runeword with +1 zeal and berserk) .. you would loose a tank in the grizzly and the fana aura, but u gain 5 attacks per swing and also a berserk attack which would take care of im.

anyhow my lunch break is over, back to my 3rd graders, cya tonight

Pally is up to level 81, knocking on the doors of Chaos Sanctuary. He now has his Schaefer's, but I'm going to wait until after Anya to try and get him to 4 fps. My resists are going to turn upside down to put IAS jewels in his gear. Now that I think about it.. I'll have to see if I have any IAS jewels with single resists. That might help.

In the mean time, I'll probably wait a bit on Chaos Sanctuary to see if I can find a superior cryptic sword first.

Well, a little catch up for the past few days. Did the hellforge in hell with my sorc, got a crappy hel rune, fortunately for me, the sorc died a short while later trying to get to izzy, so i get to do it again. Thanks to Walt, Buddy and Joe for looting so I don't have to find everything again. :)

My vengence pally is now lvl 68 and about ready to start hell. I know he's a marked man, but I'm having fun with melee for a change while it lasts. It certainly hasn't hurt to be playing with BO and enchant thus far.

GOOOOOOD MORNING MISFITS.

I's been months and months since I've been on, but I'm back playing quite a bit now. SWG was a flop. If you ever thought D2 was buggy... omg, I just couldn't take it anymore. And once they said they were removing Jedi Perma-death I jusped ship.

Anyway, 1.10 is a lot of fun. It's a lot harder than .09 (for me anyway). Never had a lvl 44 die on NM act 1 till yesterday :P.

Now, I've been gone for a loooog time. But I know my current acount is in the bots memory... I think... but I can't remember how to get to the channel, lol.

Could someone PM me the channel name? I look forward to chatting with everyone tonight.

If anyone sees a 3-socketed Gothic, Executioner, or any 3-soc Phase Blade or better (Balrog or Collosus would be sweet) sword please pass it my way. I figure King's Grace will do for some NM MFing till I can get something better.

Welcome back! I'm the one phur, errrr pball, and most others call pub. I'm relatively new to the official ranks of the misfits, but I've been lurking with the misfits since the days these threads were posts over on the old MP.

More bugs than D2? I didn't know that was possible! :lol:

Unless you just want the experience and 'fun' of doing it, there is little reason for any Misfit to MF NM Meph. There are 3 Misfit mule accounts with all the same stuff on them. (Actually I heard once there was a 4th one, but I don't know it. And as Phur says I have access to his old mules and even Rah's old account.) Anyway, send me a PM and I'll send you the info for the misfit mules.

On the MF barb... I was a big MF barb person back in 1.09. I had two very successfull ones, a standard zerker for Meph and a dual LS (for the old MSLEB 'bug') frenzy barb for Baal. I imagine the zerker could probably do fine with NM Meph inb 1.10, but the frenzy one would get creamed even on a NM Baal run these days. While most any class could MF in 1.10, e.g. use enigma, the sorc is probably the most natural at it. For one thing, Durance 2 is much larger in NM and Hell. Blizz claims the intent was to prevent people from farming Meph, yet the reality is it gives an even greater advantage to teleport users. Everyone pretty much uses a sorc and runs Meph more than ever. I'd say starting out, sorc + hell meph, is the fastest and most popular way to accumulate wealth. Another good option starting out is a lit trapper + hell eld, shenk, and pindle. So unless you've got a JAH and BER rune to make enigma, a barb is probably not the best choice for MFing. And even then, I would recommend trading the JAH or BER for a Tal's set and making a MF sorc. ;)

Now if you're interested in more than MF, the barb can still be quite fun! I've killed a few myself since the patch came out!

I currently have 2 decent MFER's w/ a 3rd 1 coming up.

1. ORB / Telk Sorcy Lvl 88

2. Light Trapsin Lvl 92

3. Blizzard / Glacial Sorcy. Lvl 85



My sorcy's go after Meph for the most part, and when things get boring Andy / Burial Grounds and other areas get explored.


While my sin is on her PES tours... gotta love Pindle... just Mind Blast the group - throw in 3 LS then 2 DS... and see them pop.


If there is gear that you may need and I have available... just let me know.

That would be great. I like playing Sorces nearly as much as i like playing Barbs, so I'll start tonight on my sorc.

The problem I always what with Sorcs though was getting enough MF to be worth it while making one that can survive (I could never afford Tals armor). I guess I'll see what I can come up with. I'm still getting used to the monsters hitting so much harder, lol.

And I'll appriciate any help I can get.

Oh, and as for bugs, I don't even now how many times I got warped to 0,0 coords while in a lag fest fight (the maps are a 5K,5K grid). How is that for one of 10,000 bugs.

ughh! Either the bnet servers (I've tried a few) are having some serious problems or there is a more general problem on the Internet (the latest email virus?). I just logged in and was welcomed with constant 2k+ pings. I checked and it's not my specific connection, though it could be my ISP's mail server reaking havoc. Everyone watch out and stay safe tonight. I hope it clears up soon, but it might be a good night to do something else. :(

DirtyD, if you got two comps, you could quest that barb along with the sorc and use him for BO support. ;)

Popular sorc builds: fball/meteor/forb, fwall/forb, chainlit/forb, blizzard/? (I don't really know much about cold sorcs.) The tri-elemental is no longer prefered as there is not enough skill points to go around and pump synergies. Indeed, the first 3 are really just single tree, with a 'weak' orb as backup.

Sup Kyle. I didn't have much of a chance to get going last night. I think I got my sorc to lvl 3, lol. The GF needed some quality time.

But I'm looking forward to getting started tonight. I have to do some research on sorc builds first. I'm fairly upset now though that my lvl 44 guy died. I had just imbumed a circlet that gave +2 to sorc Fire skills, FCR, +mana, +Life. Kind of sucks. Anyway, looking forward to playing with everyone.

BTW, does anyone have some sigon stuff I could borrow for a few dozen lvls :D. If not, I'll just grind it the old fashion way.

Also, what is the status on hacks? Are trigger zon still around. I didn't see any in any of the Baal runs I did. What other lamer PK hacks are there that I need to watch out for?

Cow runs = are only good for low lvl boosting... quick lvls from 20-30 then Norm Baal runs...

Hell cow runs.. are good only for scavenging Charms and Jewels.. nothing more.


Runes... depends who you ask... best rune I've found was an IST.

Alot of the new uniques are just plain garbage... there are a few useful features just for variety... but overall... bleh..

Ladder is as it was... just running the #'s... there are several Misfits who are on various ladder positions... in specific class ladders and the big board itself.

Well it's nice to see one of the older Misfits hasn't forgotten were this forum is :flip:

Cow runs are not offically dead, but they do not yeild exp like they used to, EG: at 92 in a 6ppl i recieved around 300k exp. However they can drop any item in the game (TC is not high enough to drop certain uniques/sets) but can drop any white/socketed item.

High end runes drop are still a rarity, however, due to a 2 day dupe fest, alot of high end runes were duped. Fortunatly this is HC and as such alot vanish with death's. They are getting rarer by the day. Also on this subject, Hell Hellforge produces upto Gul so alot of Mals/Guls/Ist's etc are easy to obtain (Though the price is high) an what with 2* Rune plus minor gem creates next rune up, it's not impossible to gain some of the rarer runes using this method.

Most of the elite uniques are useless, and really, some of the new ones and runeswords have replaced what was the norm in 1.09

Well we still have no 99 on HCEast, and the postion has changed hands on numerous occasions due to Death or boredom. The ladder has been going since October so a good few months.

The beauty about 1.10 in my opinion is the plethera of new builds you can try. Take Dubby's Meleeress for instance, differen't, fun and viable in Hell.

Re-install and come join us for awhile Nate, throw SWG on the rubbish tip (SoE treat there customer's that way) and have some real fun again.

Soul is back, Dirty D is back, Jim is back (and still playing :creep: *Secret Agent Man* cuz I can never catch him on...), Kar is back giving fashion tips, Dubby is AFK in channel... things are almost back to normal.

Just need Kev, Fifel, Grock and Deja back and pretty much the whole Misfit family as I can remember it would be together. I am sure that I am forgetting some, dang, I :rant: getting old...

I belive we got it... have been getting emails informing me of a Delivery failure notice ,for emails that I never sent . So we did a virus scan last night with Norton and it found 44 infected files ... All of them a Trojan. Neither Norton nor Zone Alarm picked it up when it came in .. I forget what its name was but they were trojan.something

It doesnt seem to have done any harm ,but it was there worming its way around long enough to have 44 files.

Well like most viruses it doesn't necessarily *DO* anything terribly nasty (like format your harddrive). This one seems to search the meta data in all your files (word docs, address books, etc) for email addresses and then emails a copy of the virus to them. It apparently also randomly picks one of these addresses as a sender for each outgoing message instead of using your own email address. Presumably this technique is to make tracing of the virus more difficult, however it actually restricts the spread of the virus (hey if they were that smart they wouldn't be hacking). It also is probably why you are getting so many delivery failures. Your ISP's mail server probably does not allow the sender address to be from another domain.

What is particularly bad about this virus is that it doesn't require you to open an attachment. Simply viewing the email causes the infection. This includes the 'preview pane' which is really no different than 'opening' the email. Even selecting it momentarily to delete it is enough for it to show in the preview pane and cause the infection.

Microsoft will probably address this vulnerability in Outlook/Outlook Express with a patch but I also recommend disabling the preview pane. It may seem awkward at first, but it allows you to select and delete bogus email without actually opening it. It is a preventative step, instead of trying to patch things up after the fact.

I also recommend turning off HTML in your email, though this loss of 'functionality' may not be for everyone. It's a popular misbelief that a spammer only knows you got the message if you reply/click to be removed. If it's an HTML email and it loads an image, even 1 pixel, off the spammer's webserver, then they could pontentially know you got the email just by viewing it. (Again this includes the preview pane too.) They can then develop very accurate lists of email addresses, sell them to other spammers, and you get even more spam. And that's just spam, the message could also load a trojan when you view it, which is exactly what this latest virus does.

Another option is to use a different email client, preferrably one that doesn't include or can disable such advanced 'functionality' as the ability to dynamically load code in your email messages (I mean really now, it's just email, not some Fortune500 internet commerce site), though I would still recommend disabling the preview pane and HTML. A good one for Windows that I like is Thunderbird available at www.mozilla.org. I would also recommend the Firefox web browser with it. For plain email and web browsing they are very good. Don't bother with the standard Mozilla suite, it ... well it just plain sucks. Note both Firefox and Thunderbird are pre-1.0 and they lack all the PIM functionality of full-blown Outlook.

Anyway.... So I clocked a few runs for those who are interested. At lvl 97 I would get ~190k exp per run, solo, with 3 extras in the game, including Baal. At lvl98, I only get ~72k under the same setup. :(

It is 291,058,498 exp to go from lvl 98 to lvl 99. 291,058,498 / 72,000 = 4043. Yes, it will take me ~4000 more Baal runs to make lvl 99. Since I am starting a new job next Monday, I'll be lucky to average 30 per day. That's 135 days, or approximately 4.5 months.

SO, once again, yay for me! And here's to one more :drink:

ES: I actually don't use it, but there are many that would disagree with me. My view is that in 1.10 you take a lot more dmg, because the monsters do a lot more dmg, and ES can suck your mana ball dry pretty quick. It's like they forgot to re-balance it with all the other changes. This means you have to pump mana, which you probably won't have the points for between dex for blocking and vit for life, or pump the teleK synergy, which you probably won't have the points for between CL/forb and CL synergies. Note however I run around with a storm, max blocking, max resist, and BO.

The other side of the arguement goes something like this: Joo n00blar! ES teh secksy roxxor boxxor! lvl10 = 59% absorb! nuff said!

Anyway, you get the picture. Don't worry about it too much, uxbridge was my 3rd 1.10 sorc and even she's screwed up. 191 str, lol. (I didn't have storm or tal's set or anni charm untill much later. The best thing I had when I made her was a lore bone helm. :lol: )

You missed all the good PK hacks. My favorite was the shadow townkill right when the patch first came out. And that wasn't even a hack, just a silly bug. I don't really know what is big these days, I stick to the private games. Apparently hammerdins opperate like the hydra sorcs of 1.09.

I don't know what SCF is or was, but it sounds like one of those dirty words (hacker clans) we're not suppose to say on the forums. :lol:

Actually hacks are pretty much a thing of the past... The only big one i know about now is the getting past the wp timer... Other then that there is the color hack were they make you think they killed some one, and you goto loot them, and they arnt dead and they kill you. The hammer dins, i believe they fixed that the last thing i heard.
SCF is dead i believe as there is no more cow runs... Now we just do baal runs with in the misfits, or atleast i do.
If i catch you on tonight(most likly) i will see what i have for your sorc. I just lost all of my mid lvl sorc stuff as myne just died at lvl 57. We could always do it the old fasioned way and go untwinked(that is untill i get my hands on a tals armor and ammy).

Pub-SCF=Safe cow friends, its used to a channel were you could have cow runs with out pk's. If you hostiled in a SCF game you were booted from the channel for ever...

By the way, you can aviod all that nasty email virus stuff by using a program like Mailwasher. It allows you to delete email (spam or unknowns) without downloading the mail to your computer.

Everyone, don't misinterpret my celebratory post and satiric follow-ups. I am proud of ALL of the misfits and ALL of thier accomplishments. We're a great bunch gamers and friends.
