View Full Version : Does "Ignore Defence" Work in PvP ?
*Topic* and if not what the alternative for that parameter to get max chance to hit ?
should i pump dex or the base is sufficient for the duels ?
thanks to all.
No it does not.
As far as increasing your chance to hit, there are numerous ways, with the most general and obvious being, using items that give a bonus to your attack rating, ie. +ar charms.
In melee duel situations, the most prudent choice, usually, for a build is pumping dex only as high as is needed to maintain a 75% chance to block.

This is because adding dex only gives a really tiny amount of AR compared to charms/enchant charges/angelic ring+amu. It's easier to get ar on items/chams/skills then to get life.
Best alternative is dex, but -xx% to target defense helps a bit too

Another very effective way to raise your to hit %. Is simply to lvl your character. The higher lvl you are compared to your opponent, the higher your chance to hit will be :)

first off is u should list off the char u are thinking of making cause it would take along time to give u all good melee dueling setups. 2nd thing is about your dex question; You only need enough dex for max block(make sure to include items b4 using all your stats). At least thats how we do it on hc. I think people on sc buff strength/dex up for chance to hit and dmg which is very unsmart imho because stats used in vital are better used. The main thing about stats is just to have enough for ur items and to have enough dex for max block).
Example would be my barb on HCnL uswest(no1 really plays it) I am lvl 86 with 65 strength and 73 dex base. After items i have about 200 strength/dex which is enough for max block and equip(strength glitch).
ps: i dont use enigma (to poor)

does -xx% to defence work on pvp ?
modifiers on items that state "targte def lowered by" work at 1/2 effectivness against plasyers, and unique monsters
an eth rune will lower the def 12.5%, however it is unclear if this is based on base def only.. or final def.
skills such as inner sight and cloak of shadows do not suffer a penalty , however when they are used in the def equation seems slightly different

I did some testing with a hacked 6 eth phase blade with some mods to make a hit more visible (leech, poison, etc) on a Sorceress with 800 AR (2k with Enchant).
Against a paladin who did not use defiance and holy shield, I hit about once every three or four times. When he switched them on, I noticed my hits being spaced out more (even counting the blocked hits), but I was still hitting with some regularity.
I then went up against a barbarian. I used Enchant on accident, and he had shout on all the time (I think). I could still force a block about once every three swings (He turned green about once every 7 or 8 swings, I think).
Because of this, I am willing to tentatively say that Eth works on total defense. This experiment was not conducted with great care and accuracy, so don't blame me if your 6 Eth weapon fails to produce intended results :P. I may do more testing later, but I encourage to test on your own. Hope this helps.

eth might work but it is an unreliable way to duel, the -xx% defense willl only work if you actually hit once to get the ball moving. It has a snowball effect, so that as you hit more you hit more frequently and the defense just goes lower and lower faster. This isnt good for pvp, in 1.1 melee duels are fast paced with the botds and all with 40/15s everywhere, you cant rely on the -xx% to save you because exile pallys can easily get 30k defense and it will be pretty damned hard to get that first hit to get the snowball rolling. stick with angelic or ar charms

Actually, I'm very sure this isn't true anymore. In 1.09, this may have been the case. However, in 1.10, the Eth mod is simply -25% target's defense.
If that weren't enough, I tested this in single player against some act 1, act 3, and act 4 monsters as well as Griswold. Using the same 805 AR Sorceress without Enchant with the same 6 Eth Cold Damage Poison Damage Dual Leech Phase Blade, I scored a hit on my first strike against just about everything I swung at (the one to three monsters that did not get hit by the first hit were probably due to them moving out of the sword's range). I even hit Griswold on my first swing.

some smart modders on other sites have concluded eth works on final def, not base only. its confirmed
if u could get -200% target def on a weapon, ud have ITD in PVP.
its not per strike.. its always on, and u dont have to activate it by getting 1 hit in first.
