View Full Version : In need of smart folks
hello gents,
I haven't played this game for a long time since i quit playing after getting annoyed and frustrated. Anyway let me explain my problem here...
I am technically not supposed to play diablo2 since my dad broke the diablo cd maybe 8 months ago. He got really pissed off and he was drunk one night and i gave him some sass about getting off the computer so he broke the darn thing and threw it away. That didn't stop me though...My friend who doesn't play the game anymore gave me his d2 exp cd.
Anyway...I secretly played the game usually after school while my father was at work...or after he went to sleep (you could say i was pretty addicted to the new patch). I then decided things were getting lame and decided to sell my account on ebay and stop. Since then...I've not played for a month...but reading all these threads made me want to try some new projects for fun.
Now onto the part where i need your folks help. I am aware that its very possible to play d2 without the cd. I do have the cd...but its too risky to keep it in the drive where it could be siezed.
What i really would love is if someone here with knowledge could give me a Step by step noob guide to fixing it so i don't need the cd to play. I'm pretty sure there are Things to download...so links and guides would be appreciated.
If you dont want to share your mad Haxxoring knowledge with the entire forum...would you please send me a PM? Thanks to anyone who thinks they can help me.
Edit: Oh yeah...before you Link me to the other threads about this...keep in mind i have no idea what demon is or how to find it/work it. All i know is you need to delete some music and video files. :grrr:
Maybe you could just make a copy, and leave it unlabeled so no one can tell what it is. Put the original in your room or something, and in case the copy vanishes just make a new one.
I don't know of any CD-less loaders these days, but I haven't looked either (mine stopped working after 1.10 release).
Well i tried burning a copy of it awhile back...but that failed because I'm pretty sure its protected so it cannot be copied.
Maybe if someone could point me in the direction of some software that will bypass the cd security and let me burn it...
I dont know. What I do know is a few of you geniuses out there were able to pull this off...but alas...I am not elite enough to understand how you did.

Joo better start playing again FOO!
I don't think this is the answer you are looking for, but once you load the cd on your driver, you can eject the disk and still play. You lose some qualities such as music, but the game actually plays better.

Personally, I use VirtualDrive v7. Got it free with my mobo, and it works a treat on copy-protected disks. Lovely CD-Emulation software.....

Heres a sugestion; maybe you should actually listen to your father and not play the game? Believe it or not he probably has a good reason for not wanting you to play the game. Could it be the the sub average report card you brought home? You shutting out your family to play instead of doing something with them? The fact that you are sneaking playing time suggests you have some serious priority issues. I cought my son playing his PS2 after i had told him to go to bed now i have a brand new play station and he has a blank spot on his dresser. Listen up kid "we're" your parents and we have your best intrest in mind weather you like it or not.
lol
only he/she can decide what is their best interest
i seen so many people whos life was fvcked up by parents knowing what they should do if they like it or not
losers raised by that education

It doesnt sound like his family structure is all that great. Note the part about his father being drunk. Maybe Diablo is his only escape. I'd rather see him sneak in some computer play that his dad's booze.
if you think d2 is waste of life, not true
for teenagers this is good school of communication, planning and analysis, even good maths lol (game based on maths)
and you think l337 parenting skills help the kid more when you force him do something?
for older people another approach, but who knows...
Good call, baalos. Booze is only for responsible people like you and me.
Will it never be 5:00pm! Screw it, I'm sneakin' out early! :drink:
Hey Mac. As my good friend Jimmy Buffett says "Its five o'clock somewhere" First one is on me. :buddies: Good call, baalos. Booze is only for responsible people like you and me.

While i missed the part of him being drunk i still stand by my statement.
hmm ive read through your posts and i got to say i agree with stimm. Im not sure on your situation but when i find that when my parents forbid me to play d2 i certainly stick to it, for the reason they really know whats best for me and looking down of the games i played (like d2) too much has really hindered my progress.
Although there are certain times when parents tend to be a bit touchy and sometimes over exagerated in making decisions, one thing that I repeat in my mind is:" Parents will be there for me, but d2 accounts will expire" lol bad analogy. =P
Maybe after you've agreed by not playing for awhile they might let you play.
Good luck with your decisions...

Ok but ANYWAYS parenting debate aside...
The problem with virtual drives in relation to your problem is that they will create an F: (or whatever the next letter is going to be on your computer) and mounting/unmounting the ISO (that's the burned image of the game that you've got stored on your comp) takes a fair amount of time, so if you want to hide the fact that you're playing diablo (Your dad might wonder about the Diablo icon associated with the brand new F drive) you'd probably be better off just being quick at pulling the CD out. I'm pretty sure there's a CDless loader as well. PM'd the site you should check out...
I'd give you a newbie guide to it, except I've haven't used virtual drives to play D2 since the LoD beta was cracked, and I haven't used a loader since you stopped being able to run multiple copies with dloader.
And yeah, check out the thread the other guy linked.

I use a program called cdspace4.1 on my second computer it works really well by creating a virtual drive. You can find it on google

I think this is simple enough, get the program CloneCD i think its an 30 day evaluation software but that shoudl be good enough , download it. Install it then stick ur d2 cd in your cd drive and run CloneCD make an Image. What an image is basically taking the whole cd and sticking it on your hd. Next download another program like Daemon Tools , install it. What Daemon tools and other programs like it do is create a fake cd drive which you can load your images with. After installing load the image using the mount option and voila its like playing with the cd cept your playing from your hd.
CloneCD is awesome. I must say.

Well, As a 15 year old young man I'll try to refute your argument as politely as I can without condescending you (as you did to me...you're my father? i think not)
First things first though, His reason for breaking my diablo cd, which i though i made pretty clear, was one night after a few too many drinks he came in and saw me playing. Quoting him, he said "get the hell off the computer and do the dishes". Apparently i told him "yes" a little too quietly (he is going a bit deaf and gets angry if he can't hear me talk loud enough) and he thought i was being too disrespectful. He blamed it on the video game, took it out and broke it. Now I might actually respect his opinion, being a person who tries to see both sides of the picture, but to put it blunty, I thought it was a crock of Farking Bullshat.
Since my mom (sober person) had no problems with my computer games and neither did my dad up until the time...I thought it would be fine if i got another cd...as i did.
Could it be my sub-par report card? nope...Average of about 4 A's and 2 B's per Term. I'll figure out a way to scan it if you don't believe me.
Shutting out the fam? Nope...I thought i explained that he broke the cd in a drunken fit of rage assuming i was being disrespectful. You can understand, Drunk Arseholes are not fun to socialize with after they have been so nice to you...
About the whole sneaking around thing. Well my mom didn't seem to care since she saw me playing it more than often when my dad wasn't around. If it was that big of a problem I wouldn't have been. I played after school and after 9:00 pm, when my dad usually falls into a stupor with the tv on.
I'm glad that you care so much, being my "parent" and all (as you claim). To me you're either someone who relates too much to a Drunk p.o.s or some old guy who likes playing a computer games enough to post something off topic in an otherwise diablo2 related thread. Either way, I'm not too fond of taking the advice.
Good try, now get off my thread Tr0ll.
