Anybody see the link on the home page for the account manager? Its right here (http://www.diabloii.net/cgi-bin/download/quickdl.cgi?fl=ftp://212.67.120.244/other/loaded/diablo2/utilities/d2data1_0.zip)
Goes on to explain how to convert the file using start, windows update and add .net. Does anyone know if this works for Windows 98 because if it does, I cant find it.

He is correct. .Net made it's debut with Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Which brings up another issue... what the heck are you still using Win98 for? Upgrade that dog to XP.

Oy! Cobalt. That's just terrible; thanks for the memories - jerk ;). Although, every time I wrote in Cobalt, I thought of Kobolds, which made the tedium much more bearable.

Hey Fred there is a better (imo) mule organizing program here (http://www.diabloii.net/files/inventory.shtml) that works great on 98. Check it out.
