Sure its been asked, but here goes.
I would like to make a sorc that can actually have a high block (usually go for life).
Was thinking of using whitstans, and sorc being blizzard..........
So suggestions pls, - stats? Other equip? etc.....
Im not poor, but no way am I rich...........

P.Crown (PRuby)
Ormus Robe (PTopaz) (just switched from Duri Shell (PRuby))
Nightsmoke
Aldurs Boots
Rare amu with res/life
ring1: 118 mana
ring2: SoJ (recently found, before I had 110 mana)
Works great with max block and life/mana around 1000/1100.
Orb and all synergies maxed, ES around lvl 8, Static around lvl 8, TK around lvl 16 and Warmth around lvl 8.

as high as the highest req of your gear kev ;)
95 str for aldurs boots which are one of my favorite either.
133 for a stormshield with-15 req jewel
84 for tal set
or check out the sorc thread in gat by me. basicly it applies to a lot builds(gearsetup) but with some exceptions to the high amount of synergies for blizzard.

your dex will depend upon what lvl you are... here's how i usually do it:
base energy (hard to get through norm, just keep chugging pots, but once you get frosties/bahamut (mana) rings, wizzie, you're ok)
str for gear (usually around 60s for me, cause i prefer Nat's boots to Aldur's, but sometimes higher if i use an upgraded viper)
But dex i tend to do on the fly: the first 20ish lvls are just str and vit to get to the point that i can wear gear and not die. Then you'll need to spend a couple lvl's points in dex to get that caught up til you have the block listed on your shield (until you get whistan's at 29). Then just keep an eye on your block %. At each lvl, add a point or two into dex to keep the % at 75, and the rest into vit. Your total dex will be in the mid 100s if i remember correctly, but it's not hard to just keep an eye on it. If you get a raven, then you'll get a couple lvls of all vit, not dex. etc etc etc.
My usual layout:

whatever helm you wanna... i usually go with a gambled circlet with +skills and life or mana
frosties
nightsmoke
nat's boots (though aldur's are probably nicer)
bahamuts ring (~100 mana)

i think wiht that setup which is basically what I had on mine until i got some lucky drops you only need like 65 Strenght and it can go and kill anywhere!

Those two items can give you another 35 Dex, some life and a little more and were my personal choice.
I beleive at lvl 75 you need like 85 Dex ?!?!?! with Whitstans.....I had all this info but it has been elimenated!

IIRC, whitsans actually has a higher to block % than 75 (84%?) so you really need a lot less dex to hit 75%.
But it could be the fumes I'm whiffing. *huff*
Anyways, I love pdiamond whitsans, and they go cheap. Finally gave one up for a SS on my sorc, but for everyone else they get one :)
Another option you might consider is crafting a safety ammy, with a chance of up to an additional +10% to block.

Well, Ill go with the following:-
Rockstopper
Whitstans
Nightsmoke
Nats Boots (then Waterwalk, then aldurs (maybe))
Viper (I have a low one donated by a friend.......)
Frosties (Ill raid them from another char).
Craft an amulet (Maybe???)
Have a ravenfrost for one ring, sure I can dig out a high mana for the other.
Only thing Im missing is a WizardSpike............. (Possibly...)
What does one of these go for in HC Europe, any ideas people :)

it may have just been luck, but it seems to me that at about lvl 40-50, you can gamble a nice 100+ mana ring pretty easily. Almost every sorc of mine keeps an eye out for those lvls, then hits the craps table and comes up seven every time (after a few tries). Heck, even my barb (who uses war cry often enough to kill the blue orb regularly) got an 88 and a 101 the other night in about 4 gambles.

I think the chance to block with any shield is different for each class. Pallies have the highest chance to block with a given shield. Sorcs have one of the lowest chances to block. (of course this is all from ancient patches, I never looked to see if this changed in 1.09/1.10). Basically, I just use the lying character screen (LCS) to check my chance to block. I only use the block listed on the sheild as a rough indicator showing which sheild is better, but NOT how I will actually block. In any case whitstans is one of (or is) the best blocking shield in the game. I've heard putting a shael in it makes it truly remarkable (but you'd have to check websites which discuss blocking speed for sorcs to see if shael is worth putting in). Another option is 'eth' for higher chance to block. Combined with your good idea about the safety ammy, that might minimize dex investment.

missy got the wizzard to give it to u if u log in.
i dont want the item of u and its worth is a lot more than a wizzard btw.
use shako on your sorc instead of rockstopper. that gives more Eshield.warmth.staticrange.damage. plus a lot needed life/mana plus damage red.
rockstopper has only a bit more resi.
