View Full Version : Would this be acceptable?

In spite of my repeated urgings, a lot of you haven't submitted to TDL. We need stories and you have some good ones. Thus, would it be generally okay for us to put up your stories ourselves, giving you the proper credit, etc. unless you specified that you didn't want us to?

What do you think?

I personally wouldn't mind, although it may be a good idea to post in the thread in question, just so that the person who wrote the story knows his story has already been submitted.

So would now be a good time to re-submit that Muppets/Diablo II crossover fic?

No, kidding.

What Gdog said, I for one wouldn't mind as long as I was told about it. By the way, thanks for the kind words - I'm in the process of making a TDL account now, haven't got the confirmation email yet.

By the way, the link to submit stuff on the TDL isn't working. Also, it would appear your server is feeling very depressed. Have you been giving it enough attention?

Umm...I'd say you should probably get confirmation from the author before adding the story to TDL. While this may not be an issue most of the time, in some cases the author may want to further revise his/her story before actually "finishing" it, since this forum is, in one way or another, a place for the improvement of writing. I for one intend to post things to this forum until I get them to the point where I think they're abandonable, and then submit them to TDL.

Oh dammit not again. I'll get Rush on it again. :(

No, no you don't. You don't want to read it for numerous reasons, one of them being that the formatting is slightly odd when hosted on the fanfiction.net server, the story of which is hosted here. (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1516523/1/)

Once you're done reading that bit of literature horror, you may find yourself drawn to this remix of the same story, (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1637512/1/) provided you like the show Mystery Science Theatre 3000. There I have the Prime Evils tearing up my own story. Yea, scary.

It would appear that TDL is again accepting submissions; yayness!

From the FFF rules and regulations:

Part C: The Dark Library

2. The Dark Library (i.e. Anyee and Kahn) may take any story that is posted to any of the Fan Fiction Forums (including this one) and place it within its archives. It will of course give credit to the author.

What's technically legal and what's acceptable are two entirely different matters; besides, I'm sure An'yee dosn't want to argue with someone who didn't want their story posted.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that you do not find the guideline in the rules n' regs "acceptable". If so, then we agree.

The question posed in this thread makes it sound as if a choice is being offered, when in reality just posting here means that choice has already been surrendered. It seems worthwhile to include the "legal" part so nobody gets the wrong idea from reading this discussion.

Regardless of the final tally of opinions, the reality is that once a story hits the forum, control has been surrendered to TDL. Whether or not TDL opts to exercise that power is up to them.

Personally, I agree wholeheartedly with RevenantsKnight. Ask the author if her/his piece can be used. Once a "yes" is registered, TDL can take the bit and enter it in the archives. This speeds up the process but leaves the author some control. But only if the rule is amended.

Is anyone else having some weird troubles with TDL, or is my comp just totally screwed up? When I go to TDL, it's as if their last update never happened.

I can't believe you haven't started doing this already. Of course if you give credit its ok. People posting it here is kind of implicit consent for others to read it, so long as credit is given.

It's not just your computer...whenever I load TDL, it's rolled back to Oct. 13 and has a rather unusual site format. I don't know about you, but it's been like that for about a week now for me, so I'm assuming that the good folks over there are aware of this.

Yeah it's been about a week for me, too. I'd like to hear a response from Anyee or Rush or someone, though, because if they suffered some sort of crash and had to revert to backups then they'd need us to resubmit material that's no longer there, yes?

Glad to hear it's not just me, though, thanks.

All right, evidently, the situation has resolved itself. Ignore this and related posts.

Carry on.
