We have a new forum to organize our TCP/IP games. There will be some more changes as we continue working on reorganizing stuff. Right now, there are different threads set up for different mods and versions, which should make it easier to find a game with the correct version and mod status. I've picked some major ones for now, but which styles get their own thread can change with the level of interest.
We are also going to move PvP into this forum. I've copied the first post from the current thread, but if the PvPers want to put together a new one at any time, just let me know and I'll use that for the thread.
You can also post a thread here if you are looking to set up a regular MP group. (One that plays through together at set times.)
Forum rules require that you declare any mods that you use before you participate in MP, Trade, and Giveaways in the Single Player Forum. Your characters and items are considered modded if they have had any interaction with modded items or characters through trade, MP, or giveaways, even if you do not use the mod yourself. Please read The SPF, Game Mods, and You (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=468882) for more information.
Edit: I'm going to unlock this thread so that if anyone has questions or comments, they can post them here. (I'll delete any spam, though. )
Edit: Trader Profile Thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=631717) - convenient reference for players' mod status. Best to ask anyway. Thyiad 2 March 2008

Good combinations if you're playing with a friend.

I know it's a little early in the setup process, but sooner or later I think there should be a FAQ and some MP-based (or PvP-based) resources provided. For example:
Multi-Player Guide (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?p=4904901#post4904901) (for the Single Player Forum (http://forums.diabloii.net/forumdisplay.php?forumid=3))
*by Thyiad*
Anyways, I understand that it can't all be done perfectly, immediately. Thanks to Rush, Elly, you, and whoever had a hand in getting this setup.

Thanks to Rush, Elly, you, and whoever had a hand in getting this setup. Elly was really fast on this one, so as you've guessed, we do have more plans. This thread is a temporary placeholder for what will eventually be a sticky that includes guides, all that fun stuff about mods and gameplay affecting techniques, ect.
Edit: Just an update. I unstickied all of the threads except for this one. We'll see how they do just floating. If it turns out that having them get lost in the forum is an issue, I'll resticky them. At this point though, I think the traffic will be low enough it won't be an issue.
Are we allowed to start MP games for specific mods? Such as if a group of people play the Eastern Sun mod or Median 2008 or somesuch, can a thread be started for mod-specific MPing?

If you are looking to get a group together, start a thread for it. If you are thinking more of just hosting games and seeing who shows up, use the "other mods" thread.
Two comments and two questions, then:
This is a good idea, and it might encourage HC players who are just too lazy to MP a chance to organize a MP game. I am one of these players :wink3: Excellent work!
The title of this thread is an excellent oxymoron!
Are there or have there ever been any multiplayer tournaments?
If someone were to organize a multiplayer tournament, should they post it here or in the main forum, and if they posted it here, could they also post something in the main forum to let them know? (In case they don't browse this one but would want to play in it)

there have been attempts over the years to organise this, but it is tricky because we are all in different time zones and have different rl commitments.

What is the best place to do this? I have made a thread where I mentioned my mod-status as a side note, but I don't know if there is a better place for it?

What is the best place to do this? I have made a thread where I mentioned my mod-status as a side note, but I don't know if there is a better place for it? When you post a game, post the mod status. (Although if you are 1.11 Vanilla or RRM/RWM, you can just post in the appropriate thread, and the mod status is already taken care of.)
We'll eventually integrate the trade forum profiles here, so you can always post a profile in the Trader Profile thread in the trade forum if you haven't already.
This is an excellent idea, i love it  .
The SPF multiplayer games needed some attention, especially for HC.

are we allowed to use hamachi here? my modem and account settings don't allow me to join or host games over tcp/ip, and i can't change them for security reasons. but if hamachi is allowed i can play with others.
thank you :)

It's allowed. There have been a few hamachi games in the past, but I don't see many of those anymore. I guess those games are not really popular. Maybe SPFers are too lazy to bother with it?

thanks for quick reply my first trader :)
this is a good new, so i can make a thread for hamachi MP, i hope people join :)
thanks :)
Sawndawn you would be better off posting the MP game in the right thread (IE RWM/HC etc) and just stating "Hamachi IP 5.xxx" in the post.
Otherwise you'll have RWM/Vanilla/HC/SC all in one thread which basically negates the idea of a MP forum. :wink3:
Edit: There is a Vanilla Thread already (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=546538). Unless I mistake what you mean. Which is possible. :undecided: I imagine Cat will pop along and sort it

i'm thinking to make the post at [April 2007] 1.11/1.11b SC Unmodded (Vanilla) MP Thread, and yes i'll state the hamachi version and ip, and other infos about my game.
for HC games, which thread i have to use? [April 2007] 1.11/1.11b SC Unmodded (Vanilla) MP Thread or [April 2007] Hardcore MP Thread ?
thanks for info
EDIT: i play unmodded, HC and SC, no RRM and RWM or any other mods
EDIT 2: i see... i have to use [April 2007] Hardcore MP Thread for HC games. the other says "SC"
EDIT 3: now i found your MP Guide - SPF (v1.10)... i'm reading it :)
