Well, seeing as I just joined up, I'm learning many new aspects to this game. I really like the Single Player tournaments, and (before I joined) usually liked to play along on my own, following build/item/other restrictions. While I was at work today contemplating what I wanted to do when I got home, I sorta stumbled upon an idea: How cool would it be to play through, naturally, with a "Straight Character Class" as defined in the FFT world?

as taken from GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197339/11496):
>>1. Party must consist of 5 Characters, all set to the same job class.
Characters must attain Job before Dorter Trade City, and remain in
that class.

>>2. Characters can not use any other abilities of any other class at all.
Any Support, Movement, and Reaction skills must come from their own
Job Class.

Although the level-job restriction doesn't really apply here, the idea is to force appreciation for other, less-popular builds by playing the full party as the same Job. I think this could easily be adapted to LoD (and I'm sure it has) without causing the game to become impossible, or boring, for anyone.

Say three players were going to start a Straight Character Class (herein SCC) run of LoD, using Barbarians. You might be thinking "Oh each player picks a Skill Tree and that's it." Well, close, but I hope you've got a friend will to play the game with Attack and Passive Skills only! Instead, I think that it could be approached in a less-strict way to appeal to more of the population here at the Multiplayer subby by only playing distinct variants. Such as a Singer (utilizing the War Cries tab,) a 1 Weapon (Whirlwind, Concentration, or Berserk, with access to Weapon Mastery and one side of the Masteries, either Stamina and Speed, or Defense and Resists,) and finally a 2 Weapon (Whirlwind or Frenzy, preferable different weapons from the 1 Weapon, and the other set of Masteries that the 1 Weapon Barbarian doesn't utilize.) This way we have 3 distinct Classes, each the same Character. So, although it's not exactly like the SCC, it's the same concept. In cases where playable characters can be created from each Skill Tree not cross-training, I think it would be neat to stick to that rule. However, with the fore-mentioned Barbarians, Paladins, Amazons, and probably Necromancers, I can understand sticking players to one branch of the shared Skill Tab versus another. This way the player with the Passive tab won't feel left out!

That being said, I'd love to stick to the "Each Character is stuck with one Tree, and one Tree only" plan, if anyone is interested. Yes, I would love to play the Masteries Barbarian in a Party with a Singer and a Beater. I could tank!

It doesn't appear that there are any restrictions on newcomers to the MP subby, so if anyone is interested in doing a non-twinked, slow (maybe not 100% clears, but I wouldn't mind) paced, full through SCC, I play from 4 to 10PM Pacific time (GMT-8, CA.) If others would like to try this (and I'm sure it's been done before) I think it could be fun, and really teach people like me about the total package of each Character. I, for one, know NOTHING about Assassins, and typically I think I actually dislike them. Having to play an Assassin SCC would probably bring the realization that the Character is quite neat. This is what the FFT SSC is designed to do.

If it turns out anyone is interested, I'll play any of the 7 Characters. And I'll be happy to play any one of the 3 possible Classes of each.

Don't forget, the idea is to play with a party of 3 of the same Character, only using different Trees for each! If, there were enough people interested, I'm sure 2 teams (say, Druids and Necromancers) could obviously quest together, but it may be a bit of a pain to get 6 together for questing, where 3 seems slightly more manageable. However, in all fairness of the challenge, I think that the original group should stay together throughout the whole quest, it wouldn't be fair to party up with 3 Sorceresses just to cruise through the Chaos Sanctuary. Although that is certainly acceptable in other forms of play, this is first and foremost a challenge, so no cheating!

Okay, I think that's long enough...
