No Diablo in the mortal plane.

He still exists in hell, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure that if Blizzard wants Diablo in Diablo III (which they should if they know what they are doing), then Diablo will be in Diablo III. There is any number of ways they could allow Big Red to make his way into the game. It just wouldn't be Diablo without him.

As they say, Diablo cannot be killed....but his Mortal Form can be Slain, only to be trapped in a Soulstone, some of the Fragments may have been shattered, but after some time they might even return back (powerful enough to infest the mind of a wanderer). So if Diablo dies again, Blizzard can either make another Diablo with new companions or some copy of himself made by some "Superior Race"...

You know what would be epic for D3's finale ?
Diablo, Meph and Baal merged into one ultimate demon.

Maybe Diablo's former body fused with his brothers' soulstones ?
This way, calling the game "Diablo" would still make sense.

This is probably the single, largest reason why I believe D3 (if D3 even happens) will most like be a prequel of some sort or have a much broader scope, like a MMO with the forces of heaven vs the forces of hell and all that jazz. Because, really now, are we going to have to kill Diablo for a third time? I don't want to see him turned into Dr. Robotnik.

I think a 3 on 1 battle could be very interesting. You'd have to have some sort of coordination in a group.

Two of the D2 act bosses have various monsters around them, but the only places in D2 where you fight multiple really tough opponents at once is uber tristram and the ancients.

Actually, I believe Baal said: "My brothers will not have died in vain" because if he said "My brothers will not die in vain" then that implies they haven't died yet. You should look into your Diablo Lore in a bit more detail next time

On another note, unless Diablo was severely weakened for whatever reason when we fought him in DI and DII(anyone care to shed any light on the subject; whether he was indeed weakened for any reason or whether he was actually fighting us with his full power)? then I seriously hope that Blizz are planning something very good for the final boss.

Also, what does IIRC mean?

Diablo can come back. Baal did not die. Well his form in the mortal plane did but there was no sole stone that he was put into at the end. If baal's spirit till romes then he can be brought back by another demon. From there baal can revive his brothers and the Three can take over sanctuary with the burning hells! and slay all of the high heavens!

It would be interesting if they made it so that the Prime Evils end up defeating Heaven and that DIII was the last game in the Diablo series, then Blizz brought out a MMORPG Diablo

Me thinks:

If Diablo is powerful enough to just sit in a soulstone for like forever taking his time corrupting someone (Lazarus) from several feet of soil away, then he is powerful enough to make an appearance in DIII.

Me also thinks:

If destroying his soulstone at hellforge (as shown in LOD intro movie) was an insurance he could never come back, why didn't they do this in the first place? Did they need Meph to open the portal or something? Is he really gone?

Me finally thinks:

If angels are immortal, so are demons, so they could just keep making Diablo games letting the prime evils have at it over and over again.

> "How was your day, honey?"
< "Just another day at the office. I killed the prime evils again, Tristram is being rebuilt, I am declared a hero once more and oh yeah, the world is safe for at least another ladder season."
> "That's great, honey, how many times have you done this now?"
< "99 times."
> "Looks like someone's anniversary is coming up..."
< "Pleaseeeee, don't even think of throwing me a surprise party, I hate those. And don't invite Cain, we don't want that sleezy old bastard drooling all over Anya like last time. I do like to play that funny game with Ormus though: 'Ormus says lift your right leg' Oh and Tyrael can only come if he decides to tie his wings together, you remember what happend to our precious porcelaine on my 50th. Guess we'll just have to wait 2000 years before it'll be worth anything again."
> "Eat your quill rat, honey, you're rambling again."

Well, this is pretty much the same as D2 is right now. I've killed diablo countless times, and a few seconds later, I gain the next chaos game and kill him again.

And IIRC means if I remember correctly.

Truthfully, I think it would be stupid if they didn't have Diablo in D3, or else what's the ****ing point in calling it Diablo 3? *hmm?*

yeah there would be no point in called the game diablo 3 if there is no diablo.

 that Los Angeles comment was great!

Something to think about-

3 Prime Evils were contained within Soulstones
4 Lesser Evils were just beings - but had the ability to overcome the 3 prime evils at one point even being mortal....

Well if the 3 Prime evils were all contained within Soulstones, then perhaps the worldstone has a vast amount of evil found within it. We all know that Baal corrupted it to the core, so perhaps he was attempting to revive his brothers within the worldstone itself! Hense, recreating his brothers soulstones! Remember, only their physical forms can die!

I have an idea... just make diablo uncrushable, and then without crushing blow and static field, it might be slightly hard to kill him!!! :o !!! a challenge! nowai!

and yes he will be in diablo 3, unless its like diablo's mind which you're fighting and not the physical diablo at all :O

but the problem is that there wont be any diablo........

After you do the forge with Meph's soulstone, talk to Tyreal and he says that smashing Diablo's soulstone is the only way to banish his spirit forever. That sounds pretty serious. So...banish to where? And...forever implies that he'll never be back. By the sounds of it, Tyreal is saying that you actually kill Diablo by smashing the soulstone, not just his physical form.

Would that be the Tyreal that later says he was duped by Izual? And may or may not actually be a "good" guy (depending on how "paranoid" you are)?

Banish does not mean kill or destroy... it means to expel, to deport, to relegate... And I remembered that what Tyrael mentioned was a banishing to the Dark Abyss... So there is no destruction of his spiritual form... and there could never be, because Good and Evil are the balance of the universe in any story...

Diablo can be brought back into the mortal realm anytime some demon powerful enough makes the effort (Lillith anyone?) so really there's no reason for him not to be in the game… we need Big Red!!!

I think he should be in dark wanderer form, Im tired of seeing the red spiked demon.

And I see no problem with a diablo game without diablo, you are still fighting the consequences that diablo and his brothers did to the world, heaven and hell.

I would be happier to see Archbishop Lazarus returning than Diablo but whatever.

At risk of sounding obsessed/extremely geeky you could compare diablo to Sauron from LotR, he was destroyed but not *killed*. Sauron was bound to the ring, diablo was banished to the essence of hell, dispersed... but he will gradually regain his power (like sauron) soon he will be strong again , and d3 will be announced.

If you were that way inclined you might see d2 and the whole diablo game idea as based on LotR, and could the same also be applied to the Warhammer franchise, far reaching influences.

In fact the first time I saw this thread LotR poped right into my mind. I read the books, saw the movies and finally played some of the games. In the original story, in the books, Sauron his the source of all the evil happening in Middle Earth and is mentioned from beggining to end, but he never becomes a true character of the story... he never speaks or combats or whatever... he is an alluded character, and this could be a really good solution to "include" Diablo in DIII.

In D3, the player is Diablo. He fights Heaven and doesn't afraid of anything.

If they want Diablo to be in the game, there are a couple of fairly straightforward ways they could do it.

First off, his spirit was "banished". It could be set free by one of the villains, or it could be directing the forces of evil from wherever it was banished to.

Second, Tyrael says at the end of Act V that he doesn't know what effect destroying the Worldstone will have. That could have set him free, or weakened whatever force was binding him enough that he could either escape or somehow exercise some influence over events.

I actually like this theory, and I have a feeling that Blizzard will most likely do something like that in order to bring back Diablo. I mean think about it, they left the ending fairly open-ended with Tyrael's comment, so unless they can think of something better that isn't stupid, going with the Worldstone effect would be an easy way for them to bring back Diablo, and even his two bro's, and the fans would be happy.

But whatever reason Blizzard chooses, we'll definetly see Diablo back one way or another.

Well of course Diablo will feature in Diablo3. After all, yes, we kill him in act 4, but as people have already pointed out, that was only in the mortal plane He returns again in uber trist, and again as DC.

And as for the worldstone, if you talk to the NPC's in harrogath after defeating baal, they all agree that the destruction of the worldstone does not bode well for humankind. therefore the demons from hell will swarm the lands yet again, only this time, maybe the final act we will decend into hell to defeat the Prime Evils?

If Blizzard want Diablo in Diablo3, so it will be.
