Blizzard has enough cash and even more flowing in from WoW that they can pretty much publish at any pace they want. See Starcraft -> Starcraft 2 for example. I'd rather see sequels at a slow pace, but with good quality, than EA-styled "Let's crank out another mediocre sequel every 12 months".

considering that the online ARPG market is pretty much deserted a sequel at least as fun as D2 would be more enjoyable than nothing

Hmm..not to pop anyone's bubble..but uh..

PC Gamer has also annouced that Kotor III was in the works... along time ago....they have also hinted at The Legend that is Duke Nukem Forever being released...

Until Blizzard says "we are making Diablo III" will I even take this into consider it, and until it is on the SHELVES will I believe in its existance.

They just don't want to screw it up.
This is why it's taking so long.

Rumors are that they scrapped a D3 build a few years ago because it wasn't "Blizzard" worthy. Also, Blizzard North closing didn't help.

Does anyone know of a recent ARPG that is better than Diablo 2 still is? One that defintely qualifies (where I would say something like Guild wars is a RPG) as ARPG?

My point to this question is if this forum, one of the biggest group of d2 fans there is, D3 is defintely something blizzard will want to put time and effort into. someone saying this is a "cash cow" is exactly right especially if nothing has topped the market since D2 was released almost 10 years ago!

So if someone has any thoughts id like to hear em

none is better than online D2.

The latest ARPG, Mythos, is alright, but cartoony and the skills are boring compared to D2.

Titan Quest is decent, but the online service sucks.
Playing with friends is worth it though.

Sacred is decent (a bit unbalanced and buggy), but again the online part is awful compared to B.net.

Other games like Dungeon Siege 1 and 2, Dungeon Runner and others don't even come close to D2's gameplay.

I think if anything this is a negative D3 announcement. We could already guess that if Diablo III was in production, Blizzard would say something at WWI. The fact that a Blizzard exec is saying that it's currently not on the slate, and PC Gamer is confirming it WILL NOT be in the August issue makes me more skeptical of its production than before. Personally, I'm like Dorf, until I hear it from Blizzard's giant money-eating mouth, I'm just going to wait.

There's always Blizzcon which is a surprise in itself because they held one in 2006 and one in 2007 so another wasn't expected until 2009. Perhaps they need it because they'll announce it there. WWI will still be great as WotLK will be on show.

I would like someone to explain me what are the major differences between WWI and Blizzcon, if there are any. In which of them would more expected a big announcement such as DIII?

I must confess that the rumor from PCGamer gave me some hope, specially due to the next big events from Blizzard, but I just lost 99% of it after what has been posted today from PCGamer Editor. My rational side still believes that WoW will keep DIII in a tiny little drawer somewhere at Blizzard archive, untill the WoW hype fades completely.

WWI is more tournament-focussed although I believe the itinerary is changing this year with more fun events such as the costume parades, dance competitions. They announced Starcraft 2 at last year's WWI and Lich King was announced at Blizzcon so both are suitable occasions for large announcements. With Lich King being the apple of Blizzard's eye right now WWI could well want to focus all attention on that and SC2, rather than dilute it with D3 which would overshadow most anything else Blizzard talk about at the event.

Incidentally, check out some of the movies from Blizzcon, the dance alike and sound alike ones are particularly good http://www.worldofwar.net/wowtv/c/3/BlizzCon/

Thanks!

Hmmm... now I'm sure Diablo III will not be announced ate the WWI. Lets just wait for Blizzcon.

So what you're saying is a DIII announcement would completely ruin the sales of WotLK and SCII?

Not completly... but 99% of it

Jokes off... it would definitly ruin all the marketing and hype momentum around those 2 franchises, 'cause it would be a bombing announcement and would go right to the frontpage. And yes, it would kick their sales "right where hurts more".

I have to admit I think it will be the other way around. A lot of the people that now play WoW play a blizzard game for the first time. I don't really see them jump to a game that does not offer the same kinda features (cartoonish, real MMO, nice lore, the people, etc). On the other hand, I could imagine that people would stick to WoW instead of going to D3 as they still enjoy it, the system requirements are low, and, again, the people.
I think that Blizzard will introduce WoW II before revenu from WoW will go down significantly.
D3 would be much better timed between two WoW expansions - gives ppl something to do in between ;)

No. I'm talking from a press coverage point of view.

Thanks for the Link Elly, I have to say I really hope it's announced but I agree I don't think it will be at WWI but I have a feeling it will be at Blizzcon

I would love to be at Blizzcon for it

So how you doing Elly? It's been a long time
