View Full Version : So... corpse explosion is out?

*sigh* with the ragdolls and the corpses dissapearing it seems that my fav skill of all time, corpse explosion, wont be returning... since its now a 3D game with way too much corpses clutering up it seems it would decrease performance way too much so they had to do this.
Sad sad days for necromancers, I guess they will lose their best skill. I hope I am wrong but I dont think we will be using corpses now.
Im still very excited but really sad to see CE go.
Please link a post by Blizzard that says Corpse Explosion is out. Otherwise this is just knee-jerk speculation based on a grasped-straw deduction.

deduction.
The corpses vanish.
Ragdolls.
And way too much corpses might end up hurting performance. After all that corpse is not just a 2D sprite anymore, its about 2000+ polygons there.
Maybe you can blow up alive, or near death monsters in this game. No need for corpses.

I don't see how corpse-based skills are out.
Corpses vanish over time, most likely when you've left the vicinity of the area and no longer have a need for them.

I think they CAN and SHOULD keep the dead bodies on the screen. This is the one thing I saw which horrified me about the game. The bodies just disappear. How cheap. It's as though nothing happened in the dungeon. Everything is so....clean after the battle.
They're not just ragdolls--they don't even exist. They were all just illsions in the first place and you simply find the off switch on each of them to turn off thier appearance on the screen. I don't know why, but I can't get over this. The cracks in the ground healing up...like it never happened...everytihng good as new.
It's alpha. Maybe even pre-alpha. Unoptimized. For all you know, they could have removed persistent corpses because the game can't handle it without a massive FPS decrease. Can't have that in an announcement trailer.

You can't expect he final version to look and behave the same way as the announcement vid. Speculation is pointless. Patience is a virtue.

If you watch the gameplay video, they show the witch doctor blowing up his summons resulting in an AOE explosion. Not exactly CE, but more useful really since he doesn't need a corpse to do it.

Yeah I loved the mess the CE could generate. Have you seen that dumped slavers corpses scene from the movie apocalypto? Thats where I wanted my necro to be, that was what I wish I could generate in Diablo 3.
The messy and bloody aftermatch of the battle should stay imo. Dont know they will fix that with performance issues tho. But certainly is a lost aspect that will be missed.
Yeesh, this is footage from a pre-beta game, I wouldn't expect every little thing to be worked out yet. Don't make any assumptions based on what you've seen so far.
Keep in mind that this video is from a HEAVILY MODIFIED gameplay to show the looks of the game.

whose saying necroamancers are even in the game?
Blizzard have said there will be 5 playable chacarters,
2 are witch doctor and barbarian. Odds are no more necromancers

Yeah, it looks like the Witch Doctor is replacing the Necromancer ...
I'm gonna bet ...
Barabarian, Witch Doctor, Paladin, Wizard and Rogue/Assassin(archer)
Well let's see, there are 3 archetypical class types in this kind of game:
Melee fighter, nuking spellcaster, bow user.
We saw the Barbarian, obvious who that is; Witchdoctor looks like a hybrid or gimmick class (like the Necromaner or a Paladin); include this game's version of Sorcerer/Sorceress and Rogue/Amazon, that leaves us with one more complete toss up of a character.
Personally, as much as I love necros and druids, I think the Witchdoctor replaces both. Pets, controlling spells, gimmicky attack spells. Hey, sounds just like Druids and Necros! I don't think the 5th character will be a pet/debuffing/nuking class. Maybe a new shapeshifting class, a spellcaster/fighter mix, an engineer styled character, whatever.
Am I the only one who saw and heard the explanation of the Witch Doctors pet explosion? Its obvious he is the new necromancer. But to answer based on what we have seen, I would guess there is no CE in D3. As other have pointed out, its all speculation at this point.
Corpse explosion was a bit stupid. Exploding a corpse? What? Originalness is good, but that's just too much. I never really liked ce, it was just pointless and dumb

It's corpse explosion...you realize we're not all PVM nerds who care about stuff like that, right?
We're also not all arrogant pricks like you. That's not the point. Corpse Explosion makes sense in a way that gases that build up in the corpse may cause it to explode with a little help from evil magic. It is a fun and powerful skill and I'll be sad to see it go.
At least now we can explode our minions. What, that doesn't make sense either? Oh noes.
so corpse explosion doesn't make sense, but calling down meteors from the sky, in an under ground tunnel, does? or firing 20 arrows from a single arrow out of your quiver? I don't know where the ranking of skills by most to least "realistic" is, but even if you accept that the world is magical and the dead can return to life, and you can drink a bottle of purple stuff and go from 1 second from dead to fully healthy, I can't see that remote control corpse detonation is even in the top 50 physical improbabilities.
I'm not saying it doesn't make any sense considering the laws of physics, it's just that it's stupid. There's the barbarian who can spin around in a circle of death with his weapons, cleaving evverything in his path. There's an amazon who can shoot a flurry of arrows before you can blink. There's an assasin who can use ancient martial arts and lay dadly traps. There's a druid who can turn himself into a ferocious beast. There's a holy paladin who can use the might of the heavens to banish the unholy. There's a sorceress you can call forth lightning from the sky, and summon tremendous blizzards from nowhere. There's a necromancer who can make dead bodies explode.
Whoah! Awesome! I'll be a necromancer!

Exactly! Something different from the usual "Fire Ball hits for 32 fire damage" crap. Imaginitive ways of expanding gameplay are always welcome. Better than all the run of the mill abilities seen in every other RPG on the planet.

On the skills section I commented on fetishes. Maybe they could be "live" corpse explosions waiting to happen. They could do damage while alive. Once they take enough damage to die, they would blow up.

Actually Diablo was always focused on PVM. The nerd stuff was really the PVP, which was always about who had the best equip or who used scroll lock. PVP in Diablo 2 always a joke, it just became worse when enigma was introduced.
The game is geared toward PVM, if you want PVP you can go to Guild Wars.

I think an interesting variant could be a curse that causes enemies to explode when they die.

The new CE (SummoningE) is much cooler than the old CE IMO. CE was anyway overpowered much like the Blessed Hammer in D2. You guys are crying because the game will be harder for the Necro (WD) now.

Using the anguish and anger of a recently killed monster to explode the corpse, sending sharp bones flying through the air and dealing fiery damage to anyone nearby is stupid, pointless and/or dumb? If you've read the D2 novels CE is one of the most powerfull spells a Necromancer can use. I wouldn't call that pointless.

Of course, corpse explosion would be the same effect as setting a bag with dog doodoo on fire.
The smell, the smell!!!
RUN AWAY!!!!
Naturally, corpse explosion should be removed from the game. Why blow up a corpse? Who would want to invent such a spell? Make it a zombie or ghoul, that's way cooler.

Well for anyone having paid attention it's not really removed, only modified. The WD can use a spell similar to CE only you use a living minion instead of a corpse. Who knows, maybe you we get a spell like CE that will be used on corpses in D3 as well.

Meh, the SE is awesome IMO. I hope you won't have to press on the monster itself for it to explode, since I always had troubles unsummoning my army in D2.
Necro: Must have bodies around to summon. Must have bodies around for CE. How much fun was it to kill things in act 1 to get an army going, only to take someone's portal right into a viper one hit charging you and having to do it all again? CE is a fun skill, but completely worthless against several bosses, and in some areas.
WD: Can summon anytime. Can use summon explosion any time. Sounds much better to me.
