What up guys,

Was just wondering what you guys think the Set item situation will be for D3. Do you want to see any personal favorites make a comeback? Any new ones you want to create or speculate on what they might be? Or should they get rid of all the old ones all together?

I hope they get rid of a lot of the absolutely useless sets like Isenharts. I say this, but then I find hsarus boots on hardcore and its like endgame items...haha (kidding..), but I hope some of our oldies but goodies make a return vamped up with some new ones to boot

Blizzard did this going from D1 to D2 and I assume they will do it again. Items, easter eggs, etc...little things from past games that are planted in D3 for continuity.

I'd like the option to make your own chr's set items! It could be a quest reward after you're really high level, or maybe even one for mid level.
So it would work like this: as you play, the game keeps a tally track of certain behaviors. Later, when you get to design your own set named after you, an option window opens up listing the different options available for mods. So if you had picked up 90%+ of the gold piles ever droped for you, you would have a big gold find option available on the list. If you stood in fire for so many accumulated seconds, there could be a good fire res mod available, and so on. Then you just go through the list and pick out any 5 mods for each item and bam, you get your own personalized set item. PKing to loot has never been more benefitial (I would design it so if someone gets PK'd, they get their gear back AND the PKer gets a copy of all the victim's worn gear. Of course, a person's gear is only copied like this the first time he is ever PK'd, and there is a horrible cost like losing permanent stat points).
Or, you get a quest every 20 levels and each quest allows you one piece of your set so you have to work a long time for it if you even choose these quests.

Afterall, how can there be 500000000 Isenhart's? Isn't he just one dude? Why did he make so many sets for himself?

I hope most stuff will be new.
Maybe they could bring back some (few) important uniques, with updated stats.
Nothing else imho.

i dont care if they bring back old items, or bring in new ones. all i want is items that are actually useful.

how many item sets in d2 are just plain useless ? too many to count.

Every set needs to count. There were too many sets that were crappy, and others that only a few of the pieces were worth wearing.

I like having a few crappy sets with very low level requirements to get your characters through those beginning few acts.

I don't mind the crappy sets/uniques to be honest - it just add to the variety of the game.

Besides, what is crappy and what is not? Glad's bane is not considered to be a good item but for some builds it's likely one of the best armor you can have.

Personally, Iīd like to see sets being more powerful than uniques. As of now, thatīs not the case, and I think that the time involved in gathering a full set should pay off. In DII, the amount of sets that are actually worth anything can be counted with a hand. That should change.

In D2 it seems that there are more set pieces that are used by themselves or in combo with one or two other pieces rather than complete sets being used. Tal Rasha's and perhaps Immortal being used in their entirety from time to time. And of course you might find someone wearing a full Sigon's. Maybe a Mavina zon once in a while, too. My point is that zons use Laying of Hands, and no other part from that set. IK belt and or boots may be used by a myriad of characters, but the entire set is hardly ever seen. So how many sets are really used in their entirety today? Uniques are where it's at. I agree that sets perhaps should be made more powerful so that their use is more likely. But also perhaps they should be harder to find.

I agree sets need to be a lot more useful and also harder to find to compensate for it. No sets should make the transition to diablo 3. Would be interesting if they made sets based on d2 chars just like d2 has sets from d1 chars. Perhaps the witchdoctor will have a set like Nihlathak's Wrath or something :D.

If sets become more powerful, so as every class has their set then we have the; everybody will look exactly the same situation.

I'm not saying chars in DII doesn't look much the same, but at least for an MF sorc for example Tal's set is a choice to make, and putting on uniques is another. And what we got now, we can hope to see improved later.

I'm for competitive sets, but not to make them a nobrainer, then we are worse of than today.

I read somewhere on the blizz site that there will be class-specific quests in the game, so i had an idea regarding sets.
The barb being an optimal example, i think there should be a randomly triggered quest that opens a portal to the "Immortal King"'s lair or something of that sort. This quest would be EXTEREMELY rare and impossible to farm based on the triggers being some sort of randomization of consequtive actions.
When you find the Immortal King you must "duel" him 1 vs 1, with no use of potions and no external buffs from other chars. The IK would be very hard to beat and have no clear fighting patterns. Beating him would make him drop one peice of the IK set and completing the set would be well woth it. And the peices should have no particular rarity like how the IK armor was the only semi-rare peice in d2.
Each class should have something similiar with say...M'avina et cetera, but each fight being drastically different from eachother based on said class's skills and whatnot.
Just an idea....

Perhaps there should be sets which have an item for every possible slot that can be equiped? So a full set from head to toe. Obviously this should give huge bonuses.

(I havent played D2 in quite a while but I'm pretty sure there isn't an already)

Methinks "Endugu" would be more appropriate for a witchdoctor set. ;)

That would be nice idd. A set that fills up all item slots :). They prolly add crummy old isenharts or so to D3. I'll hope they just come up with enough new sets :D
