Hey... someone had to ask for it here too, right?

Anyway... I'm sure Blizzard is aware of the fact that there are many gamers playing their titles in Linux through Wine (the Windows compatibility layer).

So... why not just do a little bit of work and compile this potential killer app to run in Linux?... I imagine all the hardcore Linux gamers (all... what, 50,000 of them? lol) would flock to Blizzard, and you'd probably win the hearts over of many more Linux developers/users.

Or, at least, since Blizzard is doing a Mac OS X release and is designing the game to work in OpenGL, work to make the current stable version of Wine (1.0) support running the game almost perfectly -- perfectly enough to be runnable, if nothing more -- as the OpenGL support of Wine is better than its DirectX support.

Meh... was worth a shot. Anyway, I'm pretty sure within about a year it'll be running fine in Linux, with or without Blizzard's help.

It would be awesome if they ported it to Linux, but I doubt it will happen. I still play most games that are out today using Cedega/WINE, but it would be nice to have more natively support Linux. If they are going to port to Mac then they wouldn't be far from porting to Linux. You never know though.. Keep those fingers crossed.

I agree with Acidzfire, it's pretty unlikely, but would be very nice. I'd rather see a petition for this than for the whole color-scheme thing, though it might be harder to get people fired-up about OS compatibility. As it stands I dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu, mostly to have access to games that won't run Linux.

AlexanderM: There is actually a petition for this, I've signed it a few times. Althou I can't remember the URL.
