View Full Version : Low Level Dueling
d2 PvM lost my attention long ago.
d2 high level PvP never interested me. It's got some of the most BM people on bnet. Dupers cater to it. etc etc.
d2 LLD is where it's at for me. PLEASE PLEASE let there be a way to low level duel in d3!!!!
Because D3 PvM will be the same as D2 PvM.
Because D3 high level PvP will the same as D2 high level PVP. Oh, and there will be widespread dupers as well, just because the game will totally be the same as D2.
The universal law of irony will specifically screw you over and make D3 LLD terrible.

You sound like a glass is "half-full" kinda guy! ;) lol
Nevertheless, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic.

Every time I hear the words "cautiously optimistic" I think of **** in donuts thanks to this comic: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/3/1/
Low level duels/pks were indeed one of my favorite in D2 and the best part about it was that when your char/acc was much to well known remaking the char on a new acc was so fast and simple.
I did also venture into high level bvb though.

You should be able to duel right at level 1.
Low lvl PvP was the bomb! Our guild use to have a marathon time... (say 3 hrs) where everyone built a new char in a game or 2.. then at the end, we all fought... Last man standing style!

I believe those are called "Iron Man" tournys
No they are not.
Come save us Mouse_Wiz...
I was into LLD for a little while, but it didn't really hold my interest. It was too slow-paced and gear dependant for me unless I was using like a lvl 30 fb sorc, which in the end resulted in me just wanting to make a high level Druid/BvC/Necro or something. High level PvP is not as corrupt as people think, you just have to know the right people and make a name for yourself to compete with the type of people that make it fun and actually based on skill. (Sorry guys, we aren't all just teleporting around randomly).
Once you actually get all the top gear that it takes to compete, it's an even playing field and you have to improve skill to be a good PvPer. I think it's really just the tedium of aquiring those items that turns people off to PvP. That said, I really don't find anything wrong with the current high level pvp system other than duping ruining the availablity of items for some people and giving others instant access to the best gear right away.

You think that LLD is interesting? I always percieved it as some bored guy who makes a level 20 throwing barb with +dmg jewels who keeps asking level 40 newbies out for duel just to grief them and be "proud" of their accomplishment. This is actually much more "BM" and lame then high level PvP.
There were never serious LLD games either. You see this level 18 assassin creating a PvP game, then a level 27 newb necromancer joins and get one shotted then bring his level 81 barb with dual swing which owns the assassin. A couple more people join and while and it ends up as high level dueling game. I swear I've NEVER seen a LLD with good manners or good intentions (like dueling an equal level character with similar gear, fighting and having actually a good fight).

There will be a way to LLD simply because there needs to be varation at all levels items/skills wise which means you'll be able to twink/pick the best for your chosen level(or level hot spots for items). If they decided only whites drop till level 30 then it would be hard and boring(and theyre not going to do that).

There are "pubby" games such as those named "low lvl duels", "low duelz" etc that you can find on the join screen. Then there are private games/channels in which you can duel other low lvl duelers. I think all the ppl that join the public games know/realize/(count on?) the high lvl crashers coming in.
My experience to "good manners" is contrary to yours, I've found better manners in low duelers vs high duelers.
All differences aside, I think there should be dueling at any level and support for it. DUELING...not random pking/pvm game ruining.

Sounds like an unhappy incident involving your 80+ sorc getting repeatedly nailed by a level 12 charger. So, you never found the good pvp... sucks for you but does not mean it doesn't exist. The LLD community is the best one d2x SC has to offer.

:lol2:
that is no doubt the problem
if lld was boring for u or took too long, then u were doing something wrong ;)
low level dueling was about packing as much dmg and life as u could into a low lvl char. TS sins worked well at low levels.
Dude in regular Diablo 2 without any patches low level duels were happen' all the time. It will deff be there but I doubt it will be after X amount of months.
The whole issue with high level charrs coming to crash your LLD game isn't a problem. You see, Blizzard put a little check box in the create game window where it says "[ ] Character difference XX levels" where [ ] is the checkbox to check and XX is a lttle square in which you can put the maximum lvl difference from the creating chars lvl. When I make dueling games with my lvl 18 char I set it to 12, that way VLLD chars at lvl 9 can join and the max lvl of 30 is still able to join! If you dont want those lvl 30 chars to join then pull the number down, allthough I feel all the llders that are somewhat serioud will behave against you even though they are lvl 30 and you are 18..

There is a problem with that system which is there might be someone currently playing say a level 80 who also has some LLD chars but they miss the game as its not visible. What I think is all games should be visible even if you cant join and just have a view filter but with Bnet 2 Im sure it will be something like this anyway.
