There will always be these guys who try to hack the game for their own profit. This guys ruin the game community in many ways, and they're hard to prevent. However I hope that Blizzard will do something really really awesome to get rid of them.

It can't be prevented. Eventually they'll come through no mater what. And no I don't agree with you, they ruined cattle.net only. Take a look at the Single Player forum for instance.

bots can be prevented at a certain price of player annoyance
it's not hard to prove you're a human playing the game, but it'll get annoying in the long run

Maybe a naive question, but when you register on any forums you have to decipher some text of artistic letters, and bots can't do that. It doesn't seem to be hard or much of an issue for players if you needed to do that with some diablo letters everytime you wanted to make a game.

It's certainly a lesser nuisance for real players than temps bans and other prevention methods. But it wont work or what? I take it it would be done already if it would work?

d3 will be the best game if............... they dont cancel it and make something else. lets face it, half this forum(or more) is crying right now and yet when the game launches everyone will get it, everyone will play it constantly, and believe it or not, you will still have half the people crying about how it sucks just before they launch it and play some more

Apocalypse: Not all people does cry because they don't like it, but instead they want to make a difference and help give their feedback to Blizzard. I'm sure Blizzard reads those forums for hints. After all, we're the ones who shall play the game.

and i am 100% behind trying to alter the game in anyway for the better however, do people really think a dev is going to come to a forum and listen to people cry like 12 year old girls over the dumbest things? present and arguement and try to back it up, dont just sit there saying "omg the witch docter is *** i refuse to buy this game"

Its an absolutely brilliant idea.
A Turing test to play the game. It would automatically quash the bot problem in diablo2 if you had to do a turing test whenever you make or join a game.

I agree that some subjects are stupid, and just complaining won't work. One must also have good arguments and constructive criticism. :)
On your quote: Actually I would be glad if these guys won't buy the game, because they're so annoying. :D

Please write me a sonnet on the subject of the Forth Bridge...

If anyone gets that joke then they should be ashamed.

Very untrue. Depending on the programming most bots can easily deciper text from artistic lettering. If the background color is generally in the same range of spectrum.

I'll stick with singleplayer or closed games with friends. Battle.net never did it for me, so I could not care less about cheaters.

Hehe, this Turing-test thing reminds me of the old Sierra-game Leisure Suit Larry. You had to answer some trivia questions to verify that you were 'of-age'. Heck when I tried to play the game a few weeks I go, it took me a dozen shots to make it :-)

I dont want to see that happening. I want to see regular maintained and updates, at least for a year, its the same as warranty. I Would be happy to buy a warranty on the game, that would secure me two or three (perhaps more?) years of hack/bot/dupe free games, rather then monthly play. So, 15$ for 1 year, 25 for 2 years, 35 for 3 years.

I think people have a misunderstanding that pay to play would get rid of all duping/hacking/botting. Sure it would help them prevent more of it but it wouldn't completely eradicate the problem and it would also turn off some people from the game. I like the idea by Felix of making a Turing-test to join or create a game to prevent botting a lot more than the notion of pay to play. I just hope they make the letters distinguishable and not caps-sensitive. I remember having to redo tests that didn't distinguish lower case and upper case enough so I had to guess if they were upper or lower case, it was quite aggrevating.
