View Full Version : Extremely Rare Uniques in D3

We all know about the really hard items to find, simple examples such as Crown of Ages, Tyraels, Arkaines, Deaths Web, High runes. Well, I think D3 should not only have those items I just said, that require rare drop rate, but to make it REALLY interesting, D3 should have items made close to the power of the godly runewords, but are RANDOMLY found in the odds of 1 out of 1,000,000,000,000.
It would be pretty neat IMO. Imagine, lets say the only way to possibly find .. I dunno.. the "Scales of Kurast" is to be level 99 with a 1 out of 1,000,000,000,000. This would on the other hand make the GODLY items almost impossible to find. But, knowing there will be PLENTY of other godly items (not as rare or powerful), these nearly "impossible" items are meant to not be found and if they did, it would be a HUGE find/accomplishment.
Imagine how RARE it is for a high rune to drop, in which most people have hardly even seen them drop yet and they could have played this game for several years. It just happens, people DO find them and they became duped. The super, super godlies would have a even RARER drop rate than high runes, maybe even twice or 3 times as rare.
This would give item hunters an even bigger quest and if it requires to be level 99, then it would be awhile before people could even START to have a .00000000000000000000000001% luck to find such power.
I really think this game needs to have certain items that should not become exclusively popular.. like High runes, Enigma, Etc.. Let me know what you think!

I like the idea, but think that it would work better in a MMO. For example, can you imagine a MMO where a certain rare weapon or armour could change the entire direction of a battle, with one character endowed with heroic powers and dozens of others trying to kill him to take the item for themselves?
If there is some way to prevent the duping of items this idea could work very well for obsessive players, with guilds seeking out players with the coolest rare items as a status symbol of sorts (kinda like having a Lvl 99 character on ladder in DII!)
*Edit: Also, how about this for an idea? Make it so that any such overpowered items had a 'durability' of sorts and could only be used for a limited amount of time. So, say you could use your massive rod of destruction (eek!) until you quickly gained 15 levels and then it turns to dust.... Goodbye dupes, hello tactical play!
I think thats a GREAT IDEA.. create an item that I will never in my lifetime be able to find.. WOOHOOO!!!

Kind of impractical IMO. These so called "god" "god-like items" would definitely be a cumbersome addition to the game in terms of balance. Not only would the said item have to be exceptional in almost every aspect, this would kind of be detrimental to the economy, however if one were to find such an item of great value, I do not forsee it being traded off.
I do agree with you in terms of super rare items, as we have seen in the DII series, some items have extremely low drop rates and are very good. However... the one in zillion chance is kind of farfetched, considering you'd have to be luckier to get an item then to win the lottery ;/.
the number you actually present is ridiculous (one trillion) alongside the lvl 99 requirement to find it. But the ideology behind it makes sense.
I've said it once and i'll say it again- dupe prevention should be the number one priority.
I say that items should each have a number that's in an insane amount of digits say like....10,000 digit item numbers. If there is an item with the exact number as another, it is automatically erased. No questions asked. Even after years upon years of play there is no way an item could be replicated naturally with a system like that.

dupe creation exists because it is blizzard and not another company running it.
they dont care and the workers make cash off of it
tell me 2 million dollars isnt worth a risk of a 45k a year job?
I was in the selling world. I seen it all. Especially was obvious was the secrecy around certain dupes and why they never were patched yet never ever public, yet making millions of dollars a year. yes millions.
I do like the idea of a really godly hard to find item. The idea of finding an item that barley anyone has or has seen is intriguing. Then again it took me four years of playing time without finding a high rune until a Zod dropped for me in hell cows.
I would say the drop rate for these high runes would be about right for the upper class items. On to the main topic though. I think rune words should stay in the game because even though they were duped a ton doesn't mean that it wasn't fun to put runes into something to create something.
I was excited every time I got a set of runes and the socketed item. I would always decide what rune word I was going to make next. It was part of the game that was really fun for me.
Regardless of everyone running around with the same stuff...It's bond to happen with the most powerful items after a given amount of time. Lots of people will have them, few people at first but then people begin to catch up. No matter what people will have some of the same items, there will always be a few items that are the best. The only thing duping did was speed this process up.
dupe creation exists because it is blizzard and not another company running it.
Dupe creation exists because Battle.net was never built with security in mind, it was built to let people play Diablo free over the internet.
Full stop. That is it.
Now if rampant duping on Battle.net 2.0 ruins Diablo 3, then feel free to ***** away since Battle.net 2.0 is being written from the ground up and security should be at the forefront. Blizzard tried to essentially patch in security with the 'Closed Realm' idea for Diablo 2, and i would say they have learned their lesson.

I like the idea behind really rare items, to avoid a scenario, where everyone wears exactly the same gear (much like DII now).
IMHO this can be prevented by making rares much more powerfull, simply by adding more affixes to them. To illustrate:
A rare may drop in 1/50 drops or so.
A rare can have:
1 in 2: 4 affixes
1 in 4: 5 affixes
1 in 16: 6 affixes
1 in 256: 7 affixes
.
.
.
This would make for extremely powerfull and very uncommon rares, that noone else will have. Because lets face it - with maybe 100 random affixes/prefixes/suffixes (or however they decide to implement it) each with a range of outcomes, a rare with 9 or 10 decent affixes will be statistically impossible for anyone else to find. And allowing crafting with the same statistical chances of multiple affixes would make for an even godlier (and even more scarce) set of items.
This will add alot of depth to the game - nothing will be predictable. The PvP items will not be Enigmas, Griefs and so on, but rather godly rares/crafts. And no 2 characters will be identical - or even similar.
However the value of items would be very hard to determine in such a system, and much of the trading scene would of course focus on the known tradeables like RWs, Uniques, Sets, Gems, Runes and so on.
Just my 2 cents.

#EDIT: Oh and Luke: What is to prevent you from duping the item, when it has full durability? That kind of leaves the tactical play angle, right?

Duping as a conspiracy ran by Blizzard employees!
:rolf:
When you thought you've heard them all....
The ability to dupe is there by accident. Nobody intended the possibility to be there. Same goes for all the possibilities to exploit other gaps in the security of b.net (1.0)
I have good hopes for the new Battle.net

When there is no more duping, the super-rare items and HRs would really be super rare. No need to throw trillion in one possibilities in there, in essence it is already so in the D2 game.
Exactly as Erwwwd says, they are already rare enough, it's just duping making them common. If they made another item, even much more rare, if it was to be found it would sooner or later end up in the dupers hands and they then sat on the market for this not-so-super-rare anymore.

afaik, blizzard doesnt even run the d2 severs anymore. I was under the impression that AT&T ran them. yet duping is still common

There is the possibility there's still a few unfound runewords on the Realms. Figure this: with random runes, random sockets and random items to potentially make a godly item. I think that strategy beats your 1 in a kazillion chances of finding a single item.
Who knows....
