View Full Version : Hardcore first?
Since there's not a whole lot to talk about on the hardcore front I dont think, that we don't already have a thread about, I thought I would ask the obligatory HC question of the users here: Will your first D3 character be HC?
Personally I think I'll go with yes this time, just to experience the tightness of the HC community at it's smallest and because it sounds fun to be one of the first people to be playing it.
that is, if my computer is upgraded and I dont have crash / significant slowdown issues. What will you do, (poll included)

Going HC as quickly as possible. Ideally they will let us choose it from the start, somewhat similar to choosing what kind of realm (pve, pvp) you want to play in an MMO.
Being forced to play SC first would simply spoil my experience because then I'd just rush through it, trying to see as little as possible, because I have no intention to stay on SC anyway.

From the start if it's available.
Worked fine for me in Mythos anyways.

This is really a very hypothetical question. We don't even know how HC will be implemented. There's no harm in playing sc for some time just to check some things out unless you really want to be at the forefront of the ladder or something

As opposed to any of the other D3 discussion?

I dunno about discussions but for this one it gives me too little info to talk about actually. In the first place, I don't even feel such a big difference between sc and hc because I have had similar playing styles for both
HC from the start assuming it's a possibility. If I have to play SC once through I'll do it, but it will probably detract greatly from the experience for me.

I probably should have made the first option "Minimum Soft char required" which will hopefully be zero.
I don't think this is very hypothetical at all. I'm asking what HC players plan on / want to do when they get the game.
Straight HC is it's allowed, hopefully it will be.

I'll play as little softcore as I need too. Hopefully none.

I will burn through SC if I have to, otherwise, HC all the way

I feel the same way and this is my solution: if we are forced to run through normal SC, i will play it HC-style. If it dies, the character gets deleted. :)
Hopefully we can play HC from the start. Gonna make death all the better when it's a monster biting my head off. :D
I'll likely try both, if possible.
Even more than appreciating the challenge of games, I like to tinker with them and mess around and die until I find new ways to do things. In HC this is quite costly, as we all know.
But... That all depends on how the game is laid out. If it is much different than D2 then the relevance of my above reply is greatly diminished.

HC.
Like others, if I have to, i'll speed through SC, but then straight to HC.
However, I will sure as hell be a little chicken with it and not go running in to a monster pack balls to the wall right off the bat until I know if they can/will wtfpwn me >_>
Here's hoping no FELE, old MSLE, or one shotters are made.
HC. Rather die 5 times in HC to unknowns then to play through SC.
It seemed as though you were preaching to the converted, when asking this question in the Hardcore Forum :D
Personally I only play Single Player, so hardcore doesn't really make sense for me. I can appreciate the idea, but generally find it tough enough going all by my lonesome :)
I would guess that the option will be there from the start, but that most people would want to familiarise themselves a bit with the game first. Presumably D3 will, while have the same basic feel and story of D2, will be an entirely different game with a whole raft of new and exciting ways of dying very quickly. In such circumstances I applaud the brave adventurer for their audacity in selecting hardcore from the start.... but from a safe distance ;)
Good Luck to you.
Hardcore from the start. The first time playing through the game, not knowing what to expect and taking extreme caution at every step will be unforgettable.

Yeah. I'll be tracking every character i make and tabulating my total number of deaths this time.

I am still undecided. I recently started Titan Quest and died way too many times because I did not know the game, the bosses, and didn't pay attention. If I was playing Hardcore in Diablo III, I'd probably be more attentive, but even then it is probable that I will die very soon and I'll have to start over, having wasted my time. If I start on Softcore, I can learn what the game is like before I can go over to Hardcore.
On the other hand, starting a totally new game on Hardcore is unique experience in itself, especially if I am lucky enough to survive for a long time.
I'll have to decide when I'll have the game in front of me, and whether or not would I have to regedit to get into Hardcore right away matters somewhat as well.

Not only will I go HC ASAP, I'll also try to make the most underpowered build available at launch.
1.09 Dentist anyone? :-p
I really don't think I'll touch Hardcore for awhile, I'll need a play through or two before I can make my definite decision. The whole appeal of HC was SC became boring as hell, I needed that challenge.
I'll have to get bored of the game first before I start pulling my hair out and yelling curses at my screen.
Most likely, at least I hope that many of the old hardcore friends will start to play D3 again. Most of them quit it after ½-1 year of after LOD came.
And if they start, they will probably be again in hardcore. So hardcore it is. And anyways many of the old hc clans are coming to D3 as far as I know. So its fun to see some old faces there again.

Hardcore All the WAY!
Hopefully on the character selection screen as they step forward - they talk depending on difficulty selected
"Ahhhh softcore - ya big girl!" and blows a raspberry at you...... :)
HC from the date of release - I plan on NEVER playing a softcore char in Diablo III (Unless I am forced to).
