Return:
Barbarian - Awesome melee fighter with great origins
Necromancer - Loaded with personality and fit great in Diablo universe
Assassin - Quick and deadly, she's like the corvette class in Diablo -Sleek
Sorceress - Ultimate caster with all the elements at their disposal
Rogue - Fits in better to the Diablo universe than Amazon IMO

Leave:
Druid
Paladin
Amazon
Monk
Warrior

Of course not all are gonna return and afew new ones will be revealed. I'm putting money on a Warlock, but these are some I'd like to see back if I had to pick from Diablo 1&2.

I got what I wanted - Barbarian.

I'd like to see a Necromancer, but the Witchdoctor has dashed my hopes of that. An assassin/rogue/thief type character would be neat.

the assasin was great and fun. i can see them bringing it back but i wont say it was one of the most popular so at the same time i dont think it will be back. (tho popularity might not have anything to do with it)

They're going to change 2 of them. But, if I had my way entirely.

In addition to Barbarian, Sorceress and Paladin I would choose necromancer and amazon.

In a side note, I think a beastmaster class would be really cool.

Barbarian. All the others can go die and be evil bosses in D3 for all I care.

well I'm not going to hate on the OP for their opinion, but I for one REALLY hope that Druids ARE in D3, as I found them one of the more unique and flexible chars ever to grace the Diablo franchise, much like the Necro and the Paladin

Wait, why do we have to have five? Yes I know that's a d2 thing, but this isn't d2. There may be 7 for all we know.

I think I read somewhere that originally there are going to be just 5 classes for D3. Since we already know theres the barb and witch doctor I'm almost positive theres going to be a sorc-like class, a holy warrior-like class(paladin), and I'd put money on an amazon-like class or else there'll be a whole element missing from the game(bow weapons)

Watch the video posted on the homepage with that asian lead producer guy for D3. He mentions they are gonna have 5 distinct classes. You know, just like Starcraft 2 is gonna have 3 "distinct races". Because Starcraft 1 had 3 "distinct races". Sometimes I wonder if Blizzard is beginning to slack in ideas.

Barbarian (Announced)
Necromancer (Witch Doctor replacing damned...i guess i can live with it)
Paladin is a must have, if they drop this out it'll be lame :whistling:
then some sort of sorcerer, dont really care about that class
Amazon, yeah or a ranger :)

I dont think the Paladin will be in, but it will proberbly be replaced by an other holy warrior class.. Like a Cleric or some sort of holy man/woman. More focused on heavenly power than combat.. But then again, just my personal opinion.

I wouldn't mind seeing this happen

Barb: (Announced) Melee
Whitch Doctor: (Announced) Summoner
Sorc: Magicial
Amazon: Range Weapons
Druid: Elemental

Or maybe two returning favs and three new classes.

all i want is the basic character layouts

Close Combat master
Mid ranged aka Bow/Spear
Ranged (Magic)

as support classes i would like

Healer class (something like paladin with more ragned cabability and healing)
Rouge class (Poison, critical strikes and fast moving)

Seeing we got a summoner class already i atleast hope they make a good mix with Rouge/Ranges

I like the new Barbarian
I would have liked to see the Necromancer again, but sadly he was replaced by the witch docter.
They should definitely bring the druid back, I think he should close to this: http://www.geocities.com/diabloexp2/druid.jpg
and I would like to see a Sorceress also.

Here's what I'd like:

Priest/Priestess (why is everyone so afraid of healing spells anyway?)

Archer/Toxopholite (what you would typically see on a fortress wall, with the pointy helmet, scale armor, quiver, understanding of machines like crossbows and balistas, use of fire, tar, and explosives, engineer skills)

Spellbinder/Enchantress (almost pure magic user with a few melee abilities like staff mastery and enchant so they can have melee builds. Also the defining perks of being able to create magic/rares/set/unique items at increasingly high levels)

Basically, any class that looks good in heavy armor, and not retarded looking (like half of the full plate designs from d2).

Just because the Witch Doctor has some summoning abilities, I wouldn't count the necromancer out just yet. If i hadn't of seen the game play video that Blizzard put out, I would assume that the Witch doctor would be a mad curser (?) of some sort.So until the Necromancer is proven a removed character, I'm still putting my money down that he will join us in D3.

And i think that we have already listed very likely possibilities for characters in D3.

Barbarian and Witch doc are fine with me. I dont mind the loss of necromancer in lieu of something different so I wont touch on that either.

I don't seem them not putting an elemental caster in the game so sorcer(ess) what have you is probably in.

Given the gender variabillity now, if there is an archer type class it won't be called the amazon, A combination amazon/assassin archtype would be kind of cool though. I actually suspect that if this does make it in it would be called assassin. Names like thief just dont seem to have the umph that assassin does.

Paladin coming back or not is a tough one to guess on. Something like a dnd cleric or other "healing" class just doesn't jive with the style of this game. But the party buff half of that archtype does. The paladin pulled this off mostly well with the auras. Coupled with the popularity of the name I guess I see the paladin coming back. The class name has a lot of history in these american style rpgs.

While it may not be what I want, what I suspect are two primary casters, the primary melee, the quick rougish type and a melee/something else combo.

I think it's quite possible for them to absorb most of the elements from old classes into new ones, it doesn't have to be the exact same build so they can mix and match things. I think there's a lot of things that can be done with new classes and we should think about new possibilities like playing as a Fallen Rogue or Lesser Angel

I was hoping we'd get all new characters.

What I would like to see is a melee/spellcaster hybrid along the lines of an Oblivion Spellsword. Hybrid offensive spellcaster with a few melee attacks/skills and the corresponding armor. Of course it should not surpass a pure melee or pure spellcaster but a healthy mix of both approaches maybe in the form of a warrior-esque set of skills for the game's offensive spellcaster.

My guesses for the remaining three classes for initial release are:

1. Paladin - I really don't see how this could be replaced with something else. The Paladin has a very strong history in the game and if heaven is indeed in turmoil then who better to help bring about heaven's "cleansing" then the Paladin.

There is also no arguement to be made about sex with this class as Fara from act II (D2) a former Paladin was a woman.

2. Sourceress/Mage - My gut feeling is the class will be named mage for the male/female situation. Magic played a large part in the three's capture and release. The mage clans of old made huge impacts upon the world of Sanctuary. This is another class that in my mind is a no brainer.

3. Amazon/Rouge - If you look into Diablo Lore it should be clear following your research that Zon's played a large part in the world of Sanctuary. There were also males in their civilization but I would say due to diablo 1's use of the rouge that it could be named Rouge instead of Amazon. This would a simplier route to take for Blizzard. I would personally rather see the Amazon make a return but would understand the title rouge as well.

I could however see Blizzard dropping one of the three and giving us another new class. That said, I would wager any classes not brought in for initial release would be brought back in an expansion. I also would not doubt they are working on both at the same time.

Priest/Priestess (why is everyone so afraid of healing spells anyway?)
People are afraid of healing classes because of the holy trinity that most RPGs are based around. The trinity is made up of a highly armor tank with tons of health who may or may not do damage, but his main job is to keep the enemies on him and not on the other party members. The healer is the second member who does no damage, but keeps the tank alive. Lastly, you have the nuker who does tons of damage, but can't take a hit. If you don't have all three in most RPGs, you can't do anything in a group.

If you implement a healer into the Diablo universe, you then enter into a required grouping mechanic that either makes the healer required for any group content or the healer requires groups in order level. In some instances, both are required. WoW currently has a shortage of tanks and healers because tanks are boring to play outside of instances and aren't viable in PvP. Healers are in short number because it's a high stress role and they frequently target number 1 in PvP. Due to the shortage, running group content takes forever unless your guilded, which can still have issues.

The only thing I'd like to see brought from the traditional RPG realm is resurrection. Though with the TP mechanics, it's no needed.

Combine the monk and the assassin class, and make him/her a pure martial artist. Second, get rid of the katar; real assassins used the runmah, or garrote, or piano wire (hee hee).

In an ideal world:

Return:

-Assassin
-Druid
-Necro (I'm happy for the WD to replace him though)
-Amazon
-Sorc

Ditch:

-Barbarian (:whistling:)
-Paladin

As the person above said I would like all new, but based on the types of characters what I would like would be:

Barbarian (already in, brute force fighter)
Witch Doctor (I like this guy, maybe cos everyone else seems to hate him ;))
Mage - pure spell caster (I am fairly certain this type of character will make it)
Rogue - Bow/Assasin hybrid basically uses Bows/Daggers as primary weapons (Don't know why just appeals to me)
Monk - Figher Magi type, maybe with buff/support skills.

Well... Barbs and Necros(new make up) are back. The only one I really care to be back now is the assassin.

The rest is just generic stuff, prolly will be back some way or another but I really dont care :P
