View Full Version : I love the witch doctor
:lovestruck:The guy is a great grumpy, hunched voodoo shaman. I love him :loving:
Who also loves the guy?
(I also think there needs to be a counter-thread to the one that keeps being bumped to the top of this forum since this forum got started)

I'll agree with that.
I am kind of intrigued by them and like the witch doctor so far...

I like him too, and his spells look really neat, fits the WD nicely (imo)
So far, I'm very happy with the Witch Doctor :].
And I'm absolutely in love with the spells of his that have spirits in different kinds of tribal masks and gear as their animation :]. I hope to see a lot more of those :P.
I'm sure it's not finished yet, but for some of his spells, particularly Mass Confuse, they ought to tinker with the graphics a little to make it just a wee bit more obvious that he's throwing some kind of dust or powder on the monsters, as opposed to doing typical spellcasting :].

Yeah I think my first character will be a witch doctor. Looks fun and different. Necro was great but it's time for the new stuff. I've played D2 for too long so I really want Diablo 3 not a remake of Diablo 2. So thumbs up for Witch Doctor!
The WD does look VERY good this far. In fact, so good, that I'm pretty sure he will be my main in D3 along with a melee class, be it the barb or something like the paladin or assassin.Prolly sin, I always had a soft spot for fast melee chars.

Chalk up another vote of confidence for the Witch Doctor. Seems to be lined up as the more tactical spellcaster, instead of brute force damage like a Sorcerer/Sorceress.
That's one reason I'll be choosing him over sorc:More tacticality hopefully
2)I don't like traditional casters and the WD is definately not even a traditional character

It could be neat if the witch doctor's grumpy old man character does come out in dialogs or cutscenes (if there is more interaction than Cain talking at you about this forgotten tower or that horadric cube). At least it'd be more interesting than the barbarian's 'must smash things' blurb that we saw in the gameplay trailer. I could see the witch doctor even being goofy like Ormus.
That and zombie wall is amazing.

WD seems fricking awesome to me. What the Necromancer should have been in Diablo 2, instead of *summon skeletons, go make a hamburger, come back, repeat*.

Wonder how he'll be when he talks.. if he'll sound like Alkor, Drognan or stome WoW-Troll.
Either way, I think he's cool. As the rest of the chars and skills haven't been revealed yet I don't know what to play first. But a Locusts WD sounds quite cool to me right now. (which will probably change at least 10 times before release)
Unless they release a Sorceress-type character. I'm rolling a Witch Doctor first...

WD love all around! It's such an interesting class, especially in the flavor department, and I'm definitely gonna have him as my first character. I hope he has a Jamaican accent and the female sounds like Calypso from Pirates.
I'm finding him interesting. And while he's no necromancer. The necromancer isn't him either..he he he. I'd like to see more of what he does in the end..I don't base my liking or dislike of a char off just 5 or 6 skills. He looks like he has promise. I'd like to see that one soul skill shown off on the main page to be used to gather up a resource (kill monster with it..gather souls, perhaps use souls to summon?)
But yeah, chalk one up here as a WD supporter. He might not be my first played (if they bring back a sorcerer/sorceress class...ESPECIALLY if it has charged bolt and/or hydra as a skill, I'll play that first), but the WD will be one I play.
If he's anything like Rafiki from the Lion King, I am rolling WD first for sure.

I usually start off with a magic type class, so WD will definitely be one of the first choices.

Yeah, I think I'll start with a magic type class as well so I can kill stuff naked. Don't know if there'll be magic find yet but just in case...
Also, I love playing rare builds/chars and hate cookie-cutters, so if people don't like WD then I know I'll be choosing them
WD looks pretty cool.
If there's an effective way to play him without summons I'll def consider him for my first character.
I wish either his posture was a little better in game. More like the character selection screen. More like the Female's posture I think.
i think ill logic's logic i quite good (sorry i had to do that...),
i also hate cookie cutters, and the more hate he gets from people the more i like him and the more i want to play him. cus this guy has promise, and like wereform druids in d2, they could be the underdog that everyone thinks sucks but can be very powerful.
ill wait and see what else there is before deciding on him as my first. but he wont be anything less than 2nd thats for sure

I think this description of the Witch Doctor is right on the button.
Tying that into Diablo III, Morrisroe highlighted the witch doctor as exemplary of this philosophy. "We wanted him to be that guy that you're not quite sure if you like him or not. You're not quite sure if he's a happy guy, if he's nice or whatever…He's a great example of a contrast to the barbarian. He's old and frail, he's not going to go out there and start smashing dudes over the head with a hammer…He's learned the tricks, he's been there, he's been hit in the head, he knows he doesn't like it. So what he does is he goes out there and he says 'hey man, I'm just going to mess with their heads from now on.' And he starts throwing powders in their face, he starts messing with people's minds so they fight against each other, he summons zombie hordes…what kind of a character do you have to be to summon a wall of zombies?"
Go Witch Doctor!
Im definately looking forward to playing as the WD and he will probably be my first class to play as. I am a little upset that the Necromancer might get replaced by him but im sure he will be just as fun to play as.
Peace and Love to all.

I agree 100% with you. Initially I didn't really like the WD, but as more and more irrational hate gets directed at him the more I start to like him :)

yeah the WD looks great too me very interested in him myself, currently first on my to play list. of course like i have said before that will probably flip flop alot before release
At first I didn't especially like him. But the more I watch the gameplay trailer the more I feel like I'd like to pick him up first.
He looks like having at least two field to spec : locust swarm (poison i guess) and fire. Dualed with pets, you can imbue them with the power of fire and poison. He also seems pretty viable in many situations, just confusion and fire bomb could do the job.
He's going to be great =)

I really like the look and feel of the Witch Doctor. The reason his back is bent is from worshipping the female version of the Witch Doctor. Just from the art pictures you can see that the females rule this character class clearly :whistling: :scratchchin::evil:

Agreed! Asante sana squashed banana!
From what we've seen of the Witch Doctor so far, he seems nice. Good looking, great spells.
If my main character were to be either Barbarian or Witch Doctor, it would definitely be the Witch Doctor, but there is still three more classes to be found so ... Nothing can be decided yet.
Dualed with pets, you can imbue them with the power of fire and poison.
Yes, this part I love the most. If immunities and resistances are the same as in D2 you should be able to create nice minions with a two types of damage that could last through the entire game.
I just can't wait to hear the WD's character revealed through the dialogue. I'm hoping to hear a morbid, tribalistic and ruthless-yet-principled personality.
I'm hoping for a deep, unsettling African accent.

He has 3 clear trees to spec into, just like the Necro and Warlock. Poison, Fire and Mind Control. Unlike the Barbarian, the Summoner archetype is usually clear on the specs.
The most impressive spell to me was blowing up them Mongrels  Cleared a zombie pack with a BANG. The physics of the spell is NICE
Those won't be the trees lol.
The WD looks preety awesome If i get this game he will definitly be my main for sure. What I like about him is that he can summon that cool ZW (zombie wall) and pets, oh and that infect spell thing.

I agree. Rabid/Flaming zombie dogs which you can explode in the middle of the pack. Hopefully you can only have a couple at a time (no more than 5 I would think......they had 4 summoned during the demo video did they not?) I'd love if the flaming dog would slowly burn itself out and explode after a time. From what we have seen, this character looks very interesting and has many NEW:thumbup: ways of dealing out the hurt and will probably be my first caster/summoner.
I hope he does talk eccentricly like Rafiki. Spout some Voodoo

...much better than the Nec with his stupid skeletons. Looks better also. Also adds some much-needed cultural diversity to the game.
Sense my favorite class is cut form D3 ill probly be playing WD first. Hard to say with 3 unknown classes though. I love how he looks and he's known skills. I hated him at first but he has realy grown on me. Cant wait for D3 to come out.
I want to quote Meat Loaf here:

I love the witch doctor too! I know that will be the first char I make lol.
I think he's great.
I really like how Blizzard is embracing these character archetypes, so that every character feels very distinct.
The Witch Doctor is probably going to be one terrifying mother****er.
