Like this, a little counter on your character sheet that counts all the mobs your char ever killed regardless of level or anything. While it would serve no purpose, it would give braggin rights :D

Love it! I would even say, let's get a system like Diablo 1 in place where after you've killed a certain number of them you start to learn more about them, like hit point range, type of damage, resistances, experience yielded, etc.

Maybe it could even unlock some kind of journal, where you can read about the creature's origins and such. I love stuff like that.

Good Idea
While we're at it I would be interested in the total number of hours of gameplay I've invested.

So far it must be ALEAST a couple of lifetimes :whistling:

I'd like the kill counter to be per act or per session, and displayable on screen as you play.

There's a mod for DII called Nezeramontias that tells you how many monsters you've killed, but it only counts melee attacks. I'd like something like that in DIII :)

vendrox
11-07-2008, 17:35
Yeah, I'm all for statistics!

Who doesn't love to just waste a couple of minutes checking out how many monsters you've slain or how many hours you've invested in your char?

Pretty cool I'm not the only one aswell, CHEERS! :D

Yeah give us a lot of statistics, but just hide it like on a second tab in character screen so it won't confuse everyone starting to play the game.

Vulcon

Preferably one that is independent of your normal character files, so that rolling back your character won't roll back the stats ;)

AlexanderM

A MUD I used to play had a similar feature, though it was just a single stat: The largest monster you'd ever killed, when, and how much XP it was worth. That'd be pretty awesome to see come back. Fallout 2 had a kill stat page, but it was "Humans killed" "Rats killed" and the like, where more than one enemy type could fall in the same category.

I'm all for it!

Totally all for a counter for PVM based things. I really like seeing stats too, I want to know everything about my character, what it can do and has done!
PVP stats generally isn't a good idea. If you rack up too many deaths over kills people will start remaking characters or become ashamed of characters where they've died mor than they have killed. Having just kills isn't a good idea either because you could make a 2 player game with 2 of your own characters and just kill one continuously.

Some of the previous suggestings are great. Give us statistics!

Sounds cool to me. BTW, did D2 have ears drop in pvp like in D1. Makes me think of Universal Soldier. "I can't hear you." (necklace of ears). "Hey buddy, I got one of noses."

Yeah well, those damned ears took up space.. which was a drawback..

Also I see the point about manipulating stats in PVP, but what the hell.. let them? Since I'm all PVM I don't really care what happens.. But a ****load of stats as someone stated..

What I can do.

and

What I have done.

Although some of this may be overkill, I like the sentiment. Stat tracking allows for some nice bragging rights.

Not really.

For instance, with "average lev of ppl you've pk'd" and "amount of pks", someone can just pk his high lev friend 900 times all night.

Why the kill counter shouldnt mean anything other than bragging rights
Love the idea of if you kill a certain monster loads you get to know more about it.
Also have a killed by thing like the one off halo 3 ie the monster to kill you most was fallen 900 times.

And of course, we should be able to send our stats to other players. What good is 5 million kills if no one believes you?

AlexanderM

A bit tangential, but the way that maphack allowed players to view what gear other players were using would be interesting (maybe grouped players only) but have that window also contain their stats. Could be a problem for duelers though (He deals HOW much damage!? RUN!)

i'd like to have a counter that every 1 can see (if they right click or whatever on the character and click a kill-count option)
#1. how many PvM kills you have
#2 how many kills for certain types of monsters (undead, lampreys, ect...)
#3 how many times you have kill each boss
#4 DO NOT HAVE PvP KILL # BECAUSE IT DONT MATTER (the kills on PvP could be on noobs)

Completely Agree with Above.

Klint, is that a real screenshot? How did you kill the Telkine in 14 minutes? O_O For those that don't know, the Telkine is the boss of Act 1.

Amend: A straight total of monster kills may be abusable, like killing fallen as a high level character to boost your total. Perhaps a total could add up total levels of monsters killed, or perhaps a more elegant solution. (I'm all for keeping monster levels as hidden as possible. Something just gets lost when you can see the exact level of your foe.)

The way one might get around killing easy monsters like Fallen is to have drop down menus in a journal of sorts:

So, you'd have FALLEN as a main tab, which would then split into the different categories of Fallen - ie Carvers, Devilkin etc. These would be further split into each difficulty level. This means that you may have killed 10000 Devilkin on Normal level, 7000 on Nm, and 5000 on Hell. If you have a clvl 90 character, it doesn't make much sense to continue killing on Normal, as there is no challenge, and if there's a reward [like a title for killing 1000000 maybe], it's going to be pitiful. It would make much more sense to kill on Hell level, because of the challenge and the general bragging rights.

I'm all for having that D1 system back in D3 and improved too (into the form of a bestiary), it was really nice in D1 to gain more info about monster types when you kill more of them ^_^

You're looking at this WAY to hard. Who gives a crap if someone boosts their stats by killing a bunch of fallen? They should just be stats mostly for your own enjoyment. The tab thing your talking about would be way too much data for bnet to store for every character on D3.

You'll find they already store data/achievements like this for every character on wow and there are a few thousand stats for each of them :)

Ah, in light of this new information, let me rephrase: It would be completely possible for bnet to store that kind of data for every character on D3.

Each statistics has to be recorded and transmitted somehow. So eventually, a server has to spend time and effort to these statistics.
And we all know servers and bandwidth cost money.

Therefore, I believe that statistics simply for the statistics aren't good. It will only make the operation cost higher making it less likely that it will be free to play or that they will keep supporting it for a long time.
Both seems said.

So just a statistics system simply for barging rights, I don't really see the point.
Something like bestiary seems very interesting, certainly for single players.

That's a good point, when I said bnet would never be able to store all of those stats Phranx said something about WoW already doing it, but you have to consider the fact that WoW players have to pay to play. I do NOT want that to happen with Diablo III. It would honestly be enough for me not to play multiplayer if that happened. I would end up playing single player only..... that would suck ***.

Statistics are good.

Achievements are bad.

One informs us, and the other is just there to make people focus on certain boring aspect of the game to gain bragging rights, I know, I've tested it playing WoW (which gave me a headache so I cancelled my account).

They just need not to force players to achieve things just like in WoW (it's not only about achievements, also about every gear you'd wish you had and well... everything in general you can get in WoW). When you play, you have no fun, you just want to achieve things for the feeling it gives to be powerful.

Kill 300 players = Blood thirster achievement unlocked.

For everytime you kill another player your health instantly fulls up. If you kill 3 players in 10 seconds, you get a temp invulnerability bonus and moved 60% faster and deal 3 times the damage against other players for another 5 seconds.

Note if someone kills you, your achievement can only be used 3 days later.

Hilarity ensues in hunt matches.

P.S. Not entirely serious.

A kill counter would not only make the game tedious but would be counter productive. Since kills don't determine anything what good would come of it other that to answer some incredibly basic question.. how many monster have you killed? Whoop-de-doo-dah! Its a seriously bad idea. :nono:

would be awesome but with everyone with their own data it would really not help bnet O_o...but if they can make it work without us paying for it in either money or latency then ok this would be a really cool idea

only a description and history about monster would be awesome with art about the creature thats been done would be seriously a nice read for me...the kill count meh...dont really care lol... maybe kill something 50 time then unlock the description and art(for boss also /evil...the art of Diablo /drool)

maybe a good patch idea if they can make it work

p.s:Gamekk lol how do you think they keep their zombie from leaving this un-rewarding game...seriously everyone look the same now and its easy mode BADLY! lol

Yeah, I agree with this statement as well =)

It would also be nice to have it stored though, so you didn't have to mouseover to see it, just enter your bestiary book, or whatever, and see animations and stats there. The more you killed, the more detailed stats...
