I would love to see an unarmed fighter-type character. It could easily work, with plenty of martial-arts style moves (actual martial arts, like leg sweeps for area attacks; not "martial arts" like the Assassin had).
Closest comparison I can think of is just the Monk from D&D - their damage would come primarily from skills rather than specific weapons, though they could get "weapon" type items to go in those slots so they don't miss out on extra ability increases (kinda like knuckle-dusters and stuff like that).

There's a lot you can do with it, it could look really cool, and add a new element to development - like how the sorceress in D2 focussed on skill points to increase her damage and the "weapon" merely was used to buff other aspects of the character.

What do you guys think?

It would be awesome, as a 3E Monk myself. The only problem is that we already have a brute force person. I COULD see that sort of character if it were more a rogue/shadow dancer character.

Oh yeah, it could like a "middle of the road" type character, good melee, but wouldn't stand toe-to-toe with a barb; also has supplemental skills that could be any of: psychic/mind, traps, stealth, etc...
