Hey:wave:

It's really good to see that the admin's have put up a D1 forum!
I asked if they were planning to not to long back but I guess they finaly decided to make one

So what is your favourite Quest in Diablo 1?
Mine would have to be the butcher, I just like the semi-story to it and the first time I played D1 it took me a lot of tries to kill him:cloud9:

What's yours?

I gotta say Halls of the Blind. The poem is creepy (especially read by the warrior followed by the rogue --- the mage sounds a little dorky reading it). Hidden (in this case Illusion Weavers) are awesome favorites and there seem to be a lot of them.

I always liked Warlord of Blood because the rewards could be so juicy. I'd have to go with the Butcher too - I remember being genuinely scared opening his door the first few times I played Diablo Spawn waaay back in 96 or so.

Incidentally, my least favorite quest is hands down Gharbad the Weak, followed closely by the Ogden's Sign quest. I hate having to pretend to be duped by the enemies over and over, and the rewards suck.

Mine was always King Leoric, at least for the warrior. I often ended up wearing the undead crown until very late in the game, if not the entire game, simply because I couldn't find anything more useful. It was also pretty nifty, having to open up the levers and destroy the crucified skeletons, and pretty cool fighting all of the skelies and Leoric himself was always a bit of a challenge.

Arkaine's Valor was also a favorite, for similar reasons - I often ended up wearing the armor for a very long time, although it really starts to get weak around dlvl 14-15. The Anvil of Fury was also pretty good because of Griswold's Edge - kinda sucks that there weren't any equivalent quests for the Sorc/Rogue.

Hi there :) so good to see a living, thriving diablo1 forum =D.
My favourite quest.. I think it has to be Lachdanan.. simply because it wasnt until I revisited the game some 5 years ago that I found it. Back then I was not so interested in visiting game related websites so I didnt know about all the quests that one could find in single player and I didn't really play that much single player anyway.. thought I'd seen everything after completing all difficulties twice or so.. well I was wrong =D
It was really cool, going down to hell, slashing beasts and all of a sudden there is this guy talking to me =D I wish they would have this random quest stuff in newer games as well.. maybe with common and rare quests so that after some years you could still have a chance to see something new.

I wish they kept all the quests in multiplayer. :-/

"kinda sucks that there weren't any equivalent quests for the Sorc/Rogue."

What about Zhar the Mad for sorcerers?

Favourite quest would have to be Arkaine's Valor, or perhaps Gharbad the Weak :jig:

My top I would have to say was Arkaines Valor. I did love the Halls of the Blind poem though and ofc the Butcher scared me to death when I was a little kid playing it lol. Good times...

Guys remember the Vault quest? Forgot its name but that was also a fun one with the room of bones and you get the hydra spell at the end.

Just a quick note, I agree with everyone who said the butcher said the s**t out of them :D
I think I was...8 when I played it and the butcher's run scared me the most xD
I love the meat cleaver though :P

What about Zhar the Mad for sorcerers?

It's not really the same. The number of books from Zhar was always random (I think one time I got like 9-10 books, was crazy, other times only 1 or 2), and often they could be lame things like TeleK, Phasing, Healing, Charged bolt etc, not useful things like firewall, lightning, fireball etc. Arkaine's Valor gives a noticable increase in power, but an extra mlvl of some spell you use occasionally isn't that great, especially when you can easily buy or find those books in many other places - there is only 1 Griswold's Edge.

I liked killing Lazarus. His long ingame dialogue always makes me run away from him ,haha.

Bar the quests, the main thing I love about D1 was the tombs and the tombs talking about quests :D

Butcher quest hands down. I was so scared of hearing "fresh meat" that i have to go back 1 level up because I was too scared to face him.

None of the D2 moments were able to match that moment..

King Leoric hands down without a doubt, as mentioned already, the undead crown is the best ;D

Just because of the name, The Throne of Bone.

Isn't it if im not mistaken the chamber of bone?

I love all the quests, I found D1 to have way more story to it then D2.
I read every Tomb and got shivers :) sucha nerd.

Garbad the Weak is quite an interesting quest, although I would probably rate it less than King Leorics quest.

Gharbad was funny but bad; Please... No hurt to Gharbad, Gharbad make magic stuff.... that doesn't fit your character at all... just no hurt to Gharbad! :p

I would probably go with Lachdanan as when he Started talking i finally understood something!

Id have to say my foavorite quest is Zhar the Mad mini-quest. I love his insane speech, and its always nice to get a book of fireball or chian lightning from him.

The Poison Water Quest was always a favorite, along with Arkaine's Valor, although I've only gotten that far a few times (I have it for PS1.)
One day I tied a string to an empty, capless water bottle. When I swung it around it sounded exactly like the noise the Butcher makes when you hit him. Try it.

I would say butcher... was a very gruesome idea.

Though, if I played Hellfire, the cow nut quest thing would win hands down, for obvious reasons :D

My favorite quest is "Warlord of Blood". Even if you're not a Warrior, you can get some good gold for the Warlord's bounty.

1- The Butcher: scary and strong boss, bloody room.. I ran back to level 1 too! I think I managed to kill him from behind gates and a closed door. The first thing that comes into my mind when recalling Diablo is this monster. Pure fear.

2- Halls of the Dead: I love king Leoric and his skeleton army.. brr

3- Lazarus: fear-atmosphere-surprise-battle-revenge-reward. Great plot quest! When you redo it, however, fire walls end all very fast ;)

4- Warlord of Blood: the armory is a super prize, plus you get his magic item. The boss battle is interesting as he's though and immune to elements. I could only beat him using stone curse and a war staff (sorc)

5- Garbad the Weak: the acting voice is wonderful hehe. He was the first talking monster I met and I was pretty afraid to go near him. It took me a while to react when he attacked while speaking (!)

6- Zhar the mad: I like the voice plus stealing all his useful books hihi

7- The Black Mushroom: quest is stupid but gives you +3 all elixir! That's a BIG mushroom! LOL

8- Halls of the Blind: I can see what you see not.. I love the poem, but those yellow hiddens are annoying

The other quests give useless or fixed rewards. The only interesting ones for me are Lachdanan and Arkaine's Valor, but only the first time. I prefer magic or rare drops.

p.s: ok ok, just to be exact, Diablo quest is good too of course :P

The Anvil of Fury was also pretty good because of Griswold's Edge - kinda sucks that there weren't any equivalent quests for the Sorc/Rogue.

Griswolds edge is fine for the Rogue too.I killed Diablo with it. Its much easier than with a bow!
Anyway,The butcher is cool.If you play for the first time,go to level 3, kill everything there, start a new game and by then you should be ready to face him.But I found the cleaver to be too slow to be of much use.
The steel lords are also fun. Gharbald and Snotspill suck.

I find starting a new game at that point just makes the butcher too easier. Better to clear dlvl 3, then go back and kill him while he's still a challenge.

The cleaver is a pretty useless item, unfortunately.

I can see what you see not.
Vision Milky then Eyes Rot.
When you turn they will be gone.
Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be.
Shaddows move were light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind.
Cast down into the Halls of the blind.

I also liked the Leoric Quest and the Butcher Quest because of what they say.
