View Full Version : Good or Evil
You know what I'd like to see? I'd like to have the option to be either good or evil in the game. What I mean is I wouldn't mind either working for the High Heavens or being an agent of the Burning Hells.

No...just no...
Your supposed to defeat Diablo, not join him...........:bored:
That option would be absurd in a game like Diablo.
Anyway you could do the evil player killer.. lol (+_+)
Want to be evil? Just go PK a couple helpless kiddies. Nothing more low and evil than that:xxx:

Besides not working well in a linear story game like Diablo, the whole, "I get to choose whether I'm good or evil" is still a very difficult mechanic to implement.
In a game like Oblivion where things are more open ended, you can have good and evil ELEMENTS to your character, but even then it's just not feasible to be really evil. You can kill a townsperson... if you don't ever want to shop in that town again.
Same thing in Fable. There were no "evil" towns, so if you built your character on the darkside, you simply couldn't go anywhere or buy anything. Sure you got to choose sides, but one side really sucked and had no resources.
If they had some sort of "Shade of Grey" system I wouldn't be opposed to it... have choices in the game, like using your mercenaries as bait to draw out something or not helping some random NPC or finding the Horadric Malus and using it instead of giving it to Charsi. Eventually, these things result in higher prices in town, less things to purchase, maybe even different side quests (or lack thereof), and in return you get the intangible benefit of your choice (merc dies instead of you, you keep the malus, etc).
Don't think this is in the plans though, and honestly, since I don't see a fool proof way to implement it, I'm kind of glad.

I agree with the posters above, having a choice wouldn't really work in Diablo. The developers are pushing cooperative play, and have opposed factions that the player can align with would be working in the opposite direction (might end up as a WoW-eqsue perpetual battle).
Want an evil sidekick doggie on your side as well that craps rainbows into the enemys eyes? Yeah, that'd be awesome.

Don't think it would work in the type of game that Diablo is, seems more like something that would be implemented in an MMORPG, and would be pretty good for that type of game format, imo

Not much in the storyline of the game man, you are supposed to represent the humans in sanctuary and defend it against both fractions, not be one of the fractions that dont care much about it...

Baulders Gate and Fallout 2 had all kinds of dialogue options and actions for evil oriented chrs....which gave you no experience points compared to chosing the good dialogue options and good actions. I don't want to see this sort of no-brainer stuff occuring in d3. They would have to design the whole game so that good chrs and evil chrs both get equal opportunity and rewards, which is way too much to add.
