Hello, this is more of a Role-Playing thing, not to be taken seriously, just for fun.
Like the guides of realmsbeyond.net, this is mostly a list of restrictions and specific gameplay style.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've always loved the classic Gaunlet, and I wanted to share my re-creation of it using Diablo.
The basic gameplay for playing this like an arcade game is simple, one item, one spell, one chance. The sorcerer has an exception and may use Mana shield along with his one spell.
Warrior Restrictions: NO spells(Including charges), one weapon may be used, no armor, no bows, can only use one belt of potions, no life steal on items.
Rouge Restrictions:NO spells(Including charges), one bow, no melee, no armor, like warrior no life steal and one belt of potions or it's gameover.
Sorcerer Restrictions: No more then one attack spell, no armor, no staves with spell charges, no use of melee or bows, only one belt of mana potions, no teleporting or phasing, only spells at level 1.
(A sorcerer is ALLOWED to use Mana Shield along with the offensive spell of choice)
Gameplay
---------
(Must be in singleplayer)
The goal of course is to reach Diablo and kill him, you start with your item of choice and travel down the levels WITHOUT buying more potions or stoping to level up. You may pick up potions in dungeon. If your sorcerer, you can use firebolt until you get your chosen spell unless firebolt is your spell of choice.
If you run out of potions, think of it as survivor, you have to find your own food and use it wisely.
Using stats is allowed, but a sorcerer may not pump Vitality. A warrior and a rouge shouldn't pump Magic in the first place because magic is forbiden to them.
Remember, this is just for fun not to be taken seriously. I hope you enjoy trying this out and if you wish, you may record your run through the arcade style gameplay and see how far you get. If you wish to say how far you've got, proof reaching that level MUST be presented in some way, video or picture.
Now, get to it so I can drink my coffee! :coffee:
Sounds not too dis-similar to classic Iron Man or Live Off The Land gameplay.
Should be fun though :D

I don't think anyone will make it past dlvl 6 or 7. I don't understand what you mean by "one weapon may be used" - does this mean the Warrior has to stick with the Short Sword he starts with?
What does the rogue do when her bow breaks?
Why can't you wear armor?
I doubt a sorcerer will ever survive to get mana shield, and given the lack of weapons, potions and staves allowed I'm not sure he'd really want to.
I can't really see any advantage of this rule set over Living off the Land.
Living off the Land? What's that and who came up with it?

Note how I never said anything about going back up to repair a weapon. :coffee:
Anyway, this is just for fun and NOT to be taken seriously. It doesn't matter how you get your stuff to start with, the important part is that you start how you want too.
And the reason to start with no armor is simple, in the arcade game gaunlet, how many times do you change armor? Never. So, neither will your armor change, in the old arcade games your person looked in one certain way, did one certain thing.
Like I said, this is a kind of role-playing like if your were to look up the guides for D1, they are all around the lines of things like "Fairy" "Farnham's friend", ect.
Ok, anyone going to tally up how far they got and with what character? When you say no level up you mean no stat allotment right?

No, you may place your stats, you just can't sit on like level 3 for instance and kill monsters to level. The goal is to reach Hell and kill Diablo as fast as possible.
Living off the Land? What's that and who came up with it?
Living off the land essentially means you only use what you find. No purchases from townfolk, no repairs. Gold is essentially worthless. Only play with other LoL players. You can heal at Peppin since it is free if you wish.
Ironman is similar except it is mostly designed to be a kind of session play character. The idea is you zone in to level 1 and don't come out again until Diablo is dead, and that is it for the character. LoL is a continuing thing.
LoL rules can be found here (http://www.angelsofhell.com/lol.html)

LoL seems fun, but a bit harsh. I prefer completely untwinked with the rule that you have to clear every level completely before ascending to another level. Ideally you play the game through with the same party from level 1 to diablo in the same game. The goal is to have all of the levels completely monster-free so that there's no monsters in the game at all! :)
You can visit town as often as you like and buy anything you like - you just can't leave the game until you've completely done with it. After you're done in normal, just repeat this in nightmare - no xp/item running. In hell, it gets difficult.
This way the game is still balanced but can be also difficult. And it isn't so harsh to warrior which takes hit and uses durability a lot.

Well, this is not LoL, I'd consider it another type of gameplay. Anyway, if your complaining about durability, why not just use somthing with "Of Ages"?
Actually, Iron Man was quite fun. With a full party it was doable. Sometimes we organised it and teams actually ended up killing Diablo. The furthest I ever came was in the Caves, we died at the hands of those lightning shooting fast attacking guys.
The trick was to have one designated warrior standing in the opened doorways with very high dex.

I thought we had to use the equipment we started with. In the case of the fighter choose either the club or sword and drop the spare. I pretty much figured find the stairway as fast as possible and go down without going back up. The game usually ends up as a "run-away" from the enemies pretty quick. I honestly don't think anyone will be able to kill diablo much less reach him. Course, I was playing the fighter. Maybe I should choose the rogue as she is more Gauntlet-like being able to fire arrows.

You have some terrible contradictions in your rules:
Using stats is allowed, but a sorcerer may not pump Vitality. A warrior and a rouge shouldn't pump Magic in the first place because magic is forbiden to them.
The goal of course is to reach Diablo and kill him, you start with your item of choice and travel down the levels WITHOUT buying more potions or stoping to level up.
Now, my take for some more level rules would be this:
1. When a level is gained you CAN NOT use ability points.
2. Healing Potions & Rejuvenation Potions = Food
3. Mages can Pick up and Mana Potions
4. Warrior = THOR the Warrior
5. Warrior = Thyra (or whatever the hell her name is) the Valkyrie
6. Rogue = Questor the Elf
7. Sorceror = Merlin the Wizard
8. Must Drop Starting Gold & Healing Potions except when making Thor (see below).
9. When Stairs down come into view you MUST take them.
10. You can never go up stairs or exit the dungeon.
11. Thor must sell all of his equipment and buy a Small Axe. Then he is set. There is just enough gold to do this.
12. Thyra must drop her club, potions, and gold and then she is set.
13. Questor must drop his potions and gold and then he is set.
14. Merlin must drop his gold and only use Firebolt for his spell and he is set.
15. Gold you pick up equals your points scored.
16. Wizard may pick up Mana Potions.
17. Shrines cannot be touched or used (same goes for pools, fountains, etc).
18. Wizards can pick up only the Firebolt spell to use. (I ought to say he can't since the other guys can't upgrade their weapons).
19. If your weapon breaks I guess you have to use your fists until you find a new replacement axe, sword, bow, shield, staff.
20. Yes, I think wizards can smack in melee as Gaunlet allowed melee and shooting.
I guess you're screwed when your weapon wears out but I haven't yet come close to that. Here are the following scores I've had thus far:
Questor (Elf lvl 2) Dungeon L-3 Gold 369
Questor (Elf lvl 4) Dungeon L-2 Gold 418
Merlin (Wizard lvl 3) Dungeon L-5 Gold 382
Merlin (Wizard lvl 1) Dungeon L-2 Gold 29
Thyra (Valkyrie Lvl 2) Dungeon L-6 Gold 354
Thyra (Valkyrie Lvl 4) Dungeon L-4 Gold 479
Thor (Warrior Lvl 2) Dungeon L-3 Gold 290
Wow, I made it to level six. The game is probably much easier in co-op mode though. I did think that perhaps using hellfire would be a good idea. Then the Merlin could start out with a Mana staff. The oils could come in handy as I recall in Gauntlet there were little special potions you'd come across that could increase your armor, speed, damage. The blacksmith oils would solve some of the problem with weapons breaking. I suppose the easiest way would be to edit your starting items to be Indestructable. Give the Mana staff a thousand charges if possible and then you'd be good to go.
I should note that your worst enemy is finding the damn stairway right off the bat. God I hate that.

McDeath, I see your idea, and I like it better. :P
And great job for getting to level 6!
I guess you could also think of this as D2's "Hardcore" x10 on the hard factor. :P
It was all luck getting down to level six. The stairs were right next to each other.

Heh, well McDeath is the Leader so far just because he's the first and seems honest. :P
A nice way to keep record of how far you got is to take a screenshot before and after going down each set of stairs.
Heh! I'm usually so caught up in the action or running for my life. Course I have dial up and it would take a little bit to upload it to a site then post over here. I finally had Questor's bow break. I was on level 4 and it turned out to be a level that had the Ogden Sign quest. When I got to lvl 4 I was about Questor lvl 2. By the time my bow broke as i was trying to lure some overlords to get the sign but instead ended up with horrors and shadowbeasts. I closed a door and shot away through the grating until my bow disintegrated. All that was left was to try and kick my way through but I was ripped apart. 4 more character stats:
Thor (Fighter lvl 3) Dungeon L-3 Gold 351
Thor (Fighter lvl 3) Dungeon L-3 Gold 192
Merlin (Wizard lvl 3) Dungeon L-3 Gold 220
Questor (Elf lvl 6) Dungeon L-4 Gold 1169
I need to think of a scoring system besides gold. So here's a additional table:
Dungeon Level - Score Bonus
Dungeon L-1 ---- 0
Dungeon L-2 ---- 1,000
Dungeon L-3 ---- 2,000
Dungeon L-4 ---- 3,000
Dungeon L-5 ---- 4,000
Dungeon L-6 ---- 5,000
Dungeon L-7 ---- 6,000
Dungeon L-8 ---- 7,000
Dungeon L-9 ---- 8,000
Dungeon L-10 --- 9,000
Dungeon L-11 --- 10,000
Dungeon L-12 --- 11,000
Dungeon L-13 --- 12,000
Dungeon L-14 --- 13,000
Dungeon L-15 --- 14,000
Killing Diablo 100,000
Character
Lvl ----- Bonus Score
1 ---- 0
2 ---- 250
3 ---- 500
4 ---- 750
5 ---- 1,000
6 ---- 1,500
7 ---- 2,000
8 ---- 2,500
9 ---- 3,000
10 --- 4,000
11 --- 5,000
12 --- 6,000
13 --- 7,000
14 --- 8,000
15 --- 9,000
16 --- 10,000
17 --- 12,500
18 --- 15,000
19 --- 17,500
20 --- 20,000
(+2,500 per level there after)
I might need to tweak that a little. Final Score = Gold + Char level + Dungeon Level (and hopefully diablo kill).
I've recently played around with an editor for a trial run on some indestructable items (axe, shortsword, buckler, shortbow, & a special firebolt staff with 255 charges). I also allowed the mage to buy two more mana potions as it will be the closest I can do to emulate Merlin never runnin out of firebolts (yeah, he can recharge his staff at standarge charge loss).
Ok, I've did a little scoreboard thus far. (Am I the only one plugging quarters into this game?) These scores were before the Unbreakable equipment or the 255 Firebolt Charge staff.
DIABLO - GAUNTLET STYLE SCOREBOARD:

Well, I must say McDeath, I think you should of created the thread instead of me! But then again, it was my idea that made you decide to do what you've done.
May I say this again, McDeath has come up with an awesome scoring system that will now be added? xD
