how about playing tyrael or a tyrael type character. I would love to see that!
I wouldn't mind either. But not exactly like Tyreal, he's too strong. I remember saying Heaven told him not help the heroes. But I have no idea how they would fit that into the lore or gameplay since the angels in DII are hella huge, haha.

Lesser rank fallen angel trying to win back heaven's blessing?
hmm perhaps. Do you have a picture of an Angel that might fit the game? I'm picturing in my head Tyreal but scaled down... and it looks terrible and corny.

Not too sure about an angel as a base class. Can an angel be killed by a quill rat?
Maybe a tyrael set with avatar affect?
It wouldn't fit. Something special about Diablo is that all the playable characters are humans (some in less degree like the druid xD but still humans)
And I wouldn't like an angel that can be killed by a quill rat xD.

bring an angel(or demon as others suggested) does not really fit with the game imo.

Remember that there's a difference between the ArchAngels (i.e. Tyreal, Hadriel, etc) and "standard" Angels.
They could be weakened for being on the earth, cast down, "fallen" and seeking redemption - it's workable...
But having just one "non-human" would be dodgy...

agreed, the best thing about diablo is it sticks to human classes, no damn elves or dwarves here

And the same for demons. But I think we will have to wait for the diablo mmorpg before we can play as a fallen shaman, goatman archer, succubus mage, or an angelic paladin.

Blizzard have said that Diablo 3 will not be an MMO. So, I guess you'll not be playing as a fallen shaman, goatman archer, succubus mage, or an angelic paladin.

An angel would be contra- the whole kind of overriding "theme" of Diablo. That is, humans standing on their own two feet, without needing "outside" help. That's why I also think the Necromancers embody so well the diablo narrative- they're the ultimate Humanists, seeking to end all supernatural manipulation of sanctuary by hell AND heaven. To me, it's about humans having power and value that is more than merely instrumental to other forces.
But maybe i see it that way because I'm a Humanist myself :P

just cause d3 is not a mmo does not mean there wont be a diablo mmo down the road.

No, actually you're completely right, that seems to be the focus of the game. No matter if the world is filled with an amazing ammount of bizarre creatures, the humans are those that fight them, and even if Tyrael does help in some ways he never does it directly, so the battle is directly from humans for humans.

omg... that would look so cooooool. you gotta have some awesome sword throwing 1hit skill with that though... even if its on a massive cooldown.
damn.. what an idea ;D

That's a darn good point. Just because D3 is under development doesn't mean World of Diablo isn't.
maybe that's why they wanted to have Characters instead of Classes. Tyrael is a character, an individual, just like the barbarian is the same from d2

At first I thought this was a great idea however the more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that it wasn't. Angels are supposed to omnipotent. Giving them a finite life would be contradictory. There is however, some validity to the idea if the angel is used as a summon skill. What if the character was a cleric? The cleric could have several casting skills through incantations amongst which, one would be summon angel. The summon angel skill would be a timered skill where the angel would come down from the heavens to aid the cleric at those most difficult times however, he could only be earthbound for a short period of time (dependent on skill level of course). He would be a powerful ally and handle his own during the time he was earthbound. I think a cool down period would also be appropriate so the angel could not be continuously summoned.
I thought Cain said Angels weren't allowed to directly interfere with the human's actions.

That's a great idea. I would definitely play as the Cleric if it fit that description.

If Tyrael is so strong why couldn't he defeat Diablo and Baal when they weren't even in their true forms?
Lesser rank fallen angel trying to win back heaven's blessing?
Probably not the best way to receive Heaven's grace, considering they don't like to interfere with mortal realm business and all.

Because Marius freed Baal and Tyrael had to deal with both of them at once? He (Tyrael) seemed to do a pretty decent job at fighting the Wanderer, but once it's 2vs1...
Diablo is all about Man vs Evil. Putting a playable angel in the game would be a huge departation from the lore.
