View Full Version : Hardcore Heaven
It would be neat if your Hardcore Characters could go to Heaven after they die. It certainly would be more entertaining then watching a "ghost" in the chat room.
Who knows what will happen to characters after they die in hardcore, but what's likely to happen is that they will simply become useless like previous dead hardcore characters. What sort of afterlife would you pick for your hardcore character?
MMM, it would be awesome if they were turned into mules who cant leave town but can carry items, trade, and Xfer :) doesn't make sense but it's cooler to see a lvl 80 mule ghost than a lvl 1 barbarian imo.
Ghosts can carry items, too. At least the ones in the Arcane Sanctuary!
But I was thinking more like, Ghost of AxeBarb_D Level 80, Died level 57. These "dead" characters can only interact with other dead Hardcores, but they don't count toward the Ladder.
Hardcore is more Prestigious if you are still alive.
But what you suggested is nice, too.

I figured that's what you meant, but I would still instantly delete my dead hc chars which is why I didn't suggest that ;)
Unless you mean leveling after dead, but that seems to be INSANITY for me.
OOOH I thought of something that's slightly interesting.
Let them go to "heaven" where they dont get any items, have one enemy populated area open to them, where the enemies are the same level, and they get unlimited respecs.
I don't know if this is a good idea or not. But I think it is a little interesting.
Yeah, If only DIII could have a Mass pvp battle between dead hardcores... Like, depending on your disposition you could send your Dead Hardcore to Heaven or Hell and wage war :D

Except it would need to be called Hell, not Heaven. :)

Even better!!!
Or they could give 2 different ones, Heaven and hell! Where you go depends on if you pk'd anyone or not!

Here's an old idea I had....
You die and you go to The Plain of The Dead. It's basically composed of infinite bones. Bones make up the ground, the river bed, pillars, possible furnitue, and so on. You chr in HC dies, and IMMEDIATELY finds himself standing in this strange land, as a translucent ghost (like the ghostly champions in d2). All of his gear is also transluscent...it's turned etheral. Well now we know where etheral items come from; they come from the Land of the Dead.
While exploring The Land of the Dead, you run into other dead beats who died and they tell you either A) how frustrating it is to be stuck here with crappy gear, or B) how frustrating it is to be stuck here with godly gear they can't use anymore. They all roam the land, and rumors are circulating about secret ways to escape back to the mortal realms. Nothing turns up though, except upon completion of numerous quests (don't know about monsters though--the quests may be simple exploration) you get the chance to send your now eth items back into the mortal realm where heros can use them again.
Upon further completion of mindnumbing boring exploration quests, you find the ability to revist the mortal realm...in ghost form and for a few seconds only. It basically amounts to poping into someone's HC game, scaring the hell out of them before being dragged back to the Land of the Dead.
Note: The HC players see nothing put a helpless ghostly dude frantically trying to communicate something, but whatever he says get distorted into rubbish with a lot of exclamation marks. There's hand waving too.
NPC's speak of one named Perseval, who managed to discover something that took him back to the mortal realm, but that was long ago.
That's all I have on the idea atm.
hehe not a bad idea .) could be kinda creepy to be in the land of the dead.
sounds like a really nice idea!

It'd be awesome if you could interact with other HC characters in this Hardcore Heaven. Like, if you had a Hall of Acheivements to show all the things you accomplished before you died. All the still alive HC players would have this same hall, except they could add to thiers.
Also there'd be a record book. showing current records for hc players.
Examples of Hall of Achievemnts:
Player: JimTheNinja
Lvl: 67
Defeated Normal mode in : 4 weeks (or w/e, it took him along time cause he was a mindlbast sin idk)
Killed normal Baal: 5 minutes, 34 seconds
Died in: Chaos Sanctuary, Jan. 1st, 2008 to Doom Knight
And other achievements of the sort, organized of course.
xample of Record Book:
Fastest lvl 99: bobanator
fastest lvl 90: philkills
Fastest time to kill Baal: 1 minute set by xxxvanquishxxx on Jan 21st, 2008.
Etc., etc. the possibilities are endless.
Note: i use diablo 2 examples of bosses due to the fact i don't know what boses will appar in d3, same goes with dates
Nice ideas folks. Another idea I thought of is that just after you die and you (normally) start a new character the new character will have the ghost of the previous character following it around for say a few hours game time. Perhaps other players can mouse over this ghost and see lvl, time of death, cause of death and similar.
This would serve the purpose of telling people you just died with another char and perhaps mock or show sympathy =)
The ghost would not have any impact on the actual gameplay. (Or it could, serving as a last reward if the char was high lvl enough it helps you start out with your new char)

I think the hall of achievements is really good. Many people are calling for some sort of documentation or score system so we have more to show than our gear and level.

I've come to the conclusion that I want characters that die to zombies to be playable as level 1 zombies. I mean, the zombies need to come from somewhere, right?
Dead HC chars just get transferred into the SC population, with a special title. A new, happy, kinder place!

yes thats the best idea ever! first thing im gonna do is start a HC char just to suicide him and then come back as a ghost and scare people!

If that comes to pass I shall not buy Diablo 3.

Honestly guys, let's think about this. You are playing hardcore mode, what sense does it make to play your character after it dies? Although I do like CosmicallyDrifting's idea about some sort of records for how your characters have died and where/what level etc. Perhaps this could be viewed through their profile or blizzards new achievement system.

that is hilarious. think of the ghosts popping into games how awesome that would be. It would be 100% random, and all they could do is dump their items that have become etheral and leave. It would be scary and intense at the same time!
