i find it ok if any character of the game can make his own tattoo on his body that will give him abilities...those tattoos could be sawn when the character doesnt wear his-her armor. that means that in every city there must be someone that will get payied to make a tattoo
example
1)paladin can have as a tattoo <holy cross,angel hand,ect.>
2)barbarian can have as a tattoo <wolf feet,goat head, ect.>
my point is that every character can take some more strength or mana or health by having a tattoo
"Hi there, I'd like to become a Breath of the Dying. I need your help."
"Become a what?"
"If you could just tattoo these runes...maybe put em on my hands? That would look cool, right?"
"You want me to tattoo your hands?"
"Yeah unless there's a better place."
"Tattoos don't work so well on hands, they fade out aft-"
"Well what if we drew a Zod in there? Oh wait, that's part of the runeword anyway...sweet!"
"I'm not sure I foll-"
"Actually, let's put them down my spine. That will look better."
"Your spine. Huh. So what do these rune things-"
"Oh, and the order matters. I wrote it down right here."
I wonder if anyone actually got d2 runewords tatooed to them.

That would be a bit over the top.
As for this idea, it sounds like a good start.
However, these "tattoos" should be really small changes in stats/effects. Nothing to really tip the scales, and no tattoo combinations. I'm sick of all that stuff.

I have seen a picture of an "Honor" runeworrd tattoo. Yea it was real , only don't remember where I saw it. I think it's rather cool.

This would be cool, if and only if the tattoo is permanent. So you can only have one for your char and it is permanent. Otherwise it is just another inventory slot, read: booooring.

personally i dont know why Azymn found that not good idea.
in fact if we see it by the side of the earth's cosmopolitism history...many nations had tattoos with magical powers.
Maya wizards used to have such tattoos with demons and creatures of hell
Indian doctors used to have tattoos of trees
and most of all warriors used to have shoulder tattoos for good luck or in order to be blessed

Isn't the idea from character skills involving tattoos used in Planescape: Torment as well?

Hi pianistas, I was just having fun - I actually do think it's an interesting idea, no offense/sarcasm intended. I think the biggest drawback would be that the tattoos would go unseen after buttoning up your plate mail.
From what you're suggesting, they would be like non-inventoried charms, correct?
I am pretty sure I saw someone with a rune tatoo also. It may have been here, too.

Of course, it is only a permanent tatoo if it has a Zod in it. :smug:

it would also make the "respecs" debate much more convoluted.
I'm getting a Bramble irl tattoo, where can I find pictures of the different runes?

Bramble 4 Socket Body Armor Ral + Ohm + Sur + Eth
pictures of all the runes:

Remember they went into 4 socket items in a x shape, as a 2 by 2 matrix it would be:
Ral Eth
sur Ohm

yes they would be non-inventoried charms and probably we couldnt see them under an armor...thats the reason why i said before that we can only see those tattoos only if we "undress" the character
reference to oblivion much?(WHOLE TOPIC)

Oblivion has no tattoos. Mods can add tattoos but vanilla had no. Why do you think this has anything to do with Oblivion?

Ah, yeah.. Didn't think about the matrix thing. Thanks for the link, I had totally forgot about the convenience of arreat summit :D
Well i think the idea of having tatoos as some kind of stat booster is only intresting if you are into tatoos. As im not, i find the idea to be just boring and you might as well have whatever to do the same thing.
ill logic

CAUTION: Rune Words will not work in Wirt's leg.

Yep but they weren't permanent which seemed surprising they were square and remind me more of d2s charms than anything,Tatoos should be permanent and like someone said they should just give a small bonus,if respec has severe limits then maybe allow tatoo change(like a limit # of changes).
CAUTION: Rune Words will not work in Wirt's leg.
Like I ever intended to alter my Wirt's Leg xD
Wirt's Leg is too uber to need changing. It's like the most gruesome item in D2.
Stand still! I only want to whack you with some kid's prosthetic leg!
