I don't know if anyone really doubts we'll see Diablo in Diablo 3, but in any event, check out the skull the Barbarian is standing on in his statue prototype. I can't make out the 3 faces some see in the cinematic shot, but it certainly looks like the new diablo to me.

I think it was three mouths, rather than faces. And even then, I think it's just more of a fun idea, and a way to bring back Big D in a new and interesting way.

But it's definitely the guy from the cinematic trailer, which is presumably our favourite boss. :)

Somehow that skull reminds me of mephisto actually. Maybe I'm just tired though.

ya its obviously the same head as the demon in the cenimatic, if its diablo or not im not 100% sure (honostly i think it is though, the biggest hint is A. its a closeup of him like hes important, and 2. in the cinimatic u see a X on his forehead where a soulstone would have pierced)

as for the "3 heads" if you watch the cenematic, look at his "Shouldes" when ti shows him, he has a second and third mouth, one on each one (they open and roar with his main mouth)

No, I agree, the severed head reminds me alot of Mephisto too. His physical manifestation in Sankekur had those huge, (characteristic) elongated horns as well.

Except that roaring like in the video doesn't really fit Mephisto.
Mephisto is a bit more in control of himself. Roaring like that would fit the bestial Diablo much more.

didnt d1 and d2 both have a video of diablo roaring before the game released? i know in d1 if the first vid you see ends with diablo roaring, i am not 100% sure if d2 had the same kind of vid or not, i believe so though. it would make sense that they did the same thing with diablo 3. plus lets face it, d3 without diablo would be pretty lame, i could maybe understand saving him for a xpac but he has to be in there some where.

The skull kind of reminds me of Mephisto too. If Mephi does make an appearence in DIII I hope he is stronger than he was in DII because I felt he was a bit of a cakewalk tbh :)

Do a image.google search. His horns are way, way bigger then that. But who knows... the art style change may have changed. :scratchchin:

To me the Barbarian in the statue looks like his sanity finally broke. The eyes look more demented than berserked. I wonder if "overthrown" suggests a slip into evil and possibly playing evil for a little bit.

Overall it's am awesome-looking statue ^_^ I generally agree that it's Diablo.

I have to agree with you. He wasn't all that hard to kill.

As to the original topic, of course Diablo will be in DIII. Things would be pretty boring if there wasn't at least one Prime Evil to wreck havoc. Though I could see his brothers coming back as well. If Diablo hasn't been permanently banished, then I can't see how Baal especially could be.

meph was not that easy in d2c but got alot easier as time went on. thats bound to happen though, the longer the game is played the better the items get for everyone which in turn just makes the game easier. try to play the game with only useing what you find during that characters life, no trade or mule, changes the dif level alot

I always thought of this statue as "proof" that the barbarian really was the class that defeated Diablo in Diablo II.

I might have got a little bit too easily convinced by an article in a sc2 forum. But it was well thought out plot-wise. But I think it's possible that we might not see Diablo and his brothers in Diablo3.

Where we start off in Diablo III, it’s twenty years later (after Diablo II: Lord of Destruction) and the brothers are gone, they’ve been vanquished.

Notice the wording "gone - vanquished" that is pretty strong if they were busy plotting for a comeback...

I think we will see them didn't they say we would? And that there was a long complex process that led to it? Well if we don't see Diablo in Diablo 3 then I'll take off my shirt, barbecue it, eat it and videotape it so all can see.

Sure, Diablo wouldn't be that unexpected to make a comeback. But just in case, I am saving this quote... *copy-pastes*

Note the wording of that quote, though..."Where we start off in D3. That doesn't necessarily indicate that they won't make an appearance in game.
