I've been playing by myself so far and as fun as it is, I'd rather be playing with other people I think. Just some sort of small(ish) group with everyone being friendly :)
I'm not sure how to go about hosting a game but I probably could if it's needed. I find I have alot of spare time at the moment so fairly long sessions at the right times are good. I find myself browsing over several forums for several different games, which usually isn't fun or constructive. I'm hoping this will be both :)
If anyone's interested in hosting a game of any type, preferably for a new set of characters then I'd be happy to join. If I need to host a game just tell me how to go about it ;)
I have long patches of spare time between about 1pm-5pm and 9pm-4am at the moment. Timezone is GMT+10 I think. Studying from home and having strange sleeping patterns has some benefits :p

I'm currently 14 hours behind you, which makes your availability 11pm-3am and 7am-2pm for me. I'd prefer the first one, for pretty much the same reasons as you mention - strange sleeping patterns ;). I think with diablo it's sort of professional disease type of thing.
As for gameplay it's probably a good idea to read this (http://forums.diii.net/showthread.php?p=4904901#post4904901) if you haven't done so already, it explains pretty much everything you need to know about the etiquette. Hosting is pretty easy, but not all ISP provide the option. In general you need to go here (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm), find your router and most of them have instructions on what you need to do to get them working for Diablo II.
If you want to play characters together regularly, I'd be up for that. Let me know if you want to twink or not and to what extend. Most of us have some serious twinking gear by now, and there are people who start at level 1 dealing 200 damage or something.
I usually throw in items filled with Jewels of Envy for additional 11-220 poison damage, and shoot with a bow. As you can imagine, if your character is not that powerful, you feel pretty useless for quite some time (that has happened to me on occasion). Especially if people equip a 1.09 Ravenclaw brought forward to 1.12a, which due to some bugs shoots level 30 Exploding Arrows. If you're walking alongside someone like that, you pretty much just pretend to be useful.
What I'm trying to say is that I think it would be fun to organize a group of chars playing together on regular basis, but with limited twinking. One should expect some scheduling problems, so if the two of us can agree on regular time, perhaps someone else too, we can just post the game and act we're doing and see if anybody else shows up. I'm definitely interested, I can host and people usually get good pings when I do (also from Australia, strangely). Let me know what you have in mind. I have like 10-12 different ideas in my head for new characters, so I should be able to choose something that matches your character well.

Those hours suit me fine, Greebo. I've read the etiquette guidelines and everything like that for MP and I'm happy to play for fun and go with the flow. I'm not fussed about item drops much at all in a questing game and I'm hopefully experienced enough now not to make too many silly mistakes. I'll see if I can join MP games as it is now and if I have to make some changes I'll make them if I can figure out how.
With the twinking: I couldn't twink heavily even if I wanted to :p I lack the items to do that. I do have a lot of low-mid level set items and uniques so hopefully I won't be entirely useless. I even saved a few envy jewels I think. If you don't mind that fact that I'd only be lightly twinked I'd be more than happy to play through the game with you.
I could possible be online earlier than 1pm my time, so if you give some times that you'd like to play in I'll tell you whether I can be around to play then.
For character ideas: I don't know what works and what doesn't but I think I'd like to play something new. That shouldn't be too hard as I've only players a Meteorb sorceress and a lightning trap assassin. I'm 100% open to suggestions and I'm willing to play any number of builds, inluding any of the less common ones. Anything too reliant on a high end weapon is probably not the best bet for me though, unless one is found in game.
In that case I'm gonna make a M'avina's magezon, and I'm not getting a Valk. So it'd be helpful if you chose something with other damage than cold. Let me know if you want to play later today. I'm probably going to be up for a while.

Well it's 6:35pm here. I'll probably be able to play mostly un-interupted from about 9pm onwards for about 6 hours or so. Let me know if that's good for you :) Character-wise I might try playing one of those fishyzons if that works, probably with a different secondary skill than FA since you're going with cold damage, or maybe just try with pure lightning. Let me know.
I thought about it quite a bit and decided that since you want to make a Fishyzon, which I think is a great character and I'm sure you'll enjoy her, I'll do something else.
I've spent last few hours deciding and finally settled on a singing frenzy barb. I should be able to tank for you easily and I think this is going to be fun.
FA is _the_ backup for LF. I wouldn't recommend going pure lightning unless you want to run cows. Fire skills are somewhat underpowered, poison takes annoyingly long time to work and physical damage requires pretty good weapon and requires different things from gear than LF, whilst both LF and FA strive on +skills. So I'd suggest sticking with FA for now.
How about we play your tomorrow? Just post here when you're ready. I assume it will be around your noon.

Hmmm. Good question. I kind of assumed Softcore. If it's a team of people playing untwinked (and I have no HC wealth) Hardcore, then it sounds exactly like Hardcore Weekend Fun project, and since I'm already there... I'm for SC, but if Blue Rose prefers HC that could be done too.
Sorry Nagisa, I know you'd rather have HC.

If Blue Rose turns up I'll give it a go. I can always leave. On the upside, I just read that you're a singer barb, so it's not like you're twinking a lightning zon or anything.
Well, I'm doing a singing _frenzy_ barb. With emphasis on Taunt and only a point in double swing, mind you, but I will be swinging some semi-decent weapons. No fancy runewords to cause you any Grief or take an Oath never to MP with me though ;). If I become too powerful, I'll nerf myself. We'll see if Blue Rose shows up.

That would be so much cooler if Battle Cry were the mutual synergy. Effectively it's a nice cheap 25% damage resistance curse combined with like the Blessed Aim aura. My favourite barb cry. On the upside, it's also a 1 point wonder.
Edit: So it looks like Blue Rose is about as good at keeping a date as I am.
I'm thinking of going Taunt 10, War Cry 10, or something along those lines, by the way. In that configuration I'd be done at Lvl 81, and could put a few more points into the one I want stronger afterwards, depending on whether this guy will get some retirement or not.

*sigh* I'm honestly very sorry guys and girls. I had forgotten I had a lecture this morning, and an appointment for a passport renewal photo after that. I feel... silly :( I assure you I'm free at the same time tomorrow though, if any of you are able to play then. I'm also available tonight my time from say 10pm through to 3am or so (GMT+10). Again, I'm very sorry.
No worries. I'm about to go to sleep, after I post in the IFT about my ridiculous finds from running Meph tonight, but We can try playing tomorrow around the same time. I might be a bit late if I go to the movies, something like 1:30pm your time.
I'm kind of grateful that you didn't show up, and if you want to know why, go to IFT in 20 minutes ;).

Hello, Im currently online and will be like next half an hour, then lunch with gf (not gonna give that up, I guess I love her more then D2 (runs to the woods :D )) then Ill be back in another hour or so. Well, situation is like this: 12 hours ago, Ive dumped one unsupported mod with intention to enter trading (one day in the future) and made full reinstall to 1.12a RRM/RWM. RRM/RWM are not in place yet, but I dont mind tainting myself since Im gonna use them anyway (just too lazy right atm). Soooo - if you want to try out your hosting skills or something, Im ready :)
P.S. hmm, aor join you maybe. You know, those good ol LAN games with friends back then (all of us lame) were so charming <3. Nobody rushes anywhere, ppl take care about themselves ...
P.P.S. Ive only lvl 12 or so pizza SC, since Im after reset ;) Should not be a problem, I can curse all the badz and slow them with clay boy :D

nothing so far .. cant even ping you from the system ... hmm, maybe your firewall is blocking it? (even basic inbuilt windows firewall is pain sometimes ... i had my shut down during our session, but its kinda risky :P )

Well my windows firewall is off. I'm using the IP from the link in the MP Faq/Rules thing, not the one the game shows when I open it. That's right isn't it?
Edit: Try again now. Apparently my firewall was on :p
huh .. weird :( still not a packet through ... your IP seem to be ok ... trace leads me somwhere to new zealand and drops there .. hm, maybe something with your isp, cant say, its a long way, it could be anything .. it just seems to be on your half of the globe :D
edit: ps. to ps. : still nothing .. seems youll have to kick that big green titty *** yourself and meet me on my machine in the A2 :/

Are you behind a router? That could be the issue.. same here, have to forward some ports to be able to host probably...

yeah, I know and I plan to, but this was kinda improvised ;) It was just meant to help blue rose to set up his hosting session and to let him try it out and such and it ended up like this :D
P.S.lvl 19 skellie, lvl 15+ fireballer and lvl (max 10) bowzon. Weve basically just killed andy and then blue rose joined and weve killed andy again. Not much progress, but it was more a "get to know" party then some serious play. But it was fun,at least for me :)

Hosting 1.12a SC RWM/RRM (yeah, I know most of that is redundant) new characters in 15-30 minutes, will edit in my IP.
I'm making a couple new sorceresses to replace ones I already have, and as such am in a hurry to just get 'em done. Therefore, full twinkage (including hax 1.09 raven claw) will be done, and higher levels are welcome to join. I'm not opposed to rushing and running for exp this time, just want to get to hell ASAP.

Blue Rose - and others - if you want to make an MP Group that sticks together and only plays together with the same characters, then a thread like this is fine. Just try to name it something appropriate and ensure the mod status is clear.
Otherwise all other games should go in the Stickies unless it's something that isn't covered by a Sticky.
@skiffcz and wintryfields - please use the EDIT button. Multiple posts like that are spam; please read the SPF FAQ.
