Search spell in regular diablo as well?

I know that hellfire has an added spell (search) that will highlight items on the ground for you. Is there a program that can help me find stuff that I might miss on the ground in regular diablo v1.09? Playing D2 for so long I miss being able to press the alt button and see all the items on the ground. Plus the darkness of the game doesn't help much. I know that I can turn the gama up, but is things like scrolls or rings can still be missed. Plus I don't like having the gama all the way up even for a while it gets annoying and takes away from the atmosphere of the game.

unfortunately I don't believe that there is anything like what you're looking for. What should help a bunch is the Z key. if you press it you zoom way in so when you do your mouse circles they're effectively tighter, making it easier to find that jewelry. Of course it is dependent on actually being near the items but it should make it easier.

I don't think it's available in regular Diablo in any way, but there are mods that make it available. I'm pretty sure it's possible to do in V&K's Middle Earth mod (as a free hotkey, rather than a spell).
