View Full Version : Vote: Which Char(s) will return?
Inspired by this vote (http://forums.diii.net/showthread.php?t=683116) on which char you want to see come back, and the dozens of threads arguing on the issue, let's have a vote: which character will return, amongst the 5 characters in the game at launch?
Blizzard has hinted that 2 will return and 3 will be new:
Barb is in.
Necro has been ruled out.
Which of the other five will it be?
I think the sorc (M/F version) will return. There has to be some kind of mage class, and we had a male sorc in d1 and a female sorc in d2, so making a sorcerer/ess in d3 is a logical progression. The Vizijeri clans are firmly established in the game lore, Tal Rasha made his famous sacrifice to contain Baal, etc.
I hope the char is largely reinvented and they add a bunch of new skills/spells (as they've done for the Barb), but I don't see the point in inventing a whole new mage type char when they'll probably end up using a bunch of similar spells to the ones we've come to know from previous games in the series.

Hmm... You have a point here. We're missing pure spellcaster now and there aren't many ways to implement one...
Nevertheless I voted "none of above". I still think that Blizzard will try to do something new. Granted - they brought back the Barbarian but mainly (imho) because he is excellent link with D2 and D2X plot.

I think I missed that. I thought only Barbarian was coming back. Could you point me to the source? Thx :)

i have said from day one that the sorc will return and at this point i see no reason to change my mind. like you said, we have already had a male/female version. only other class that i think it could be would be the paladin, i have ruled out everyone else for one reason or another, but even the paladin is a long shot to return over the sorc imo.
i also agree that the class should be reinvented. i would not mind seeing older sorcs this time around but then again who wants to play an old lady? i would like to see a wider range of skills, not just firebolt to fireball. also i hope in the last 20 years the act of teleportation has been lost
Might want to boost the odds on a D1 character showing up, based on Jay Wilson's quote in the Mtv piece today.
http://www.diii.net/n/683843/d3s-story-and-returning-characters
Wilson also told me that in addition to fan-favorite Deckard Cain, Diablo III will feature other characters from Diablo lore.
"We also tried to focus a little more on bringing characters back, and not just from Diablo II but from Diablo I," he said. "We feel like a lot of the focus is on Diablo II but Diablo Istarted it all and has a lot of really good stuff on the gameplay side and on the character side. So people can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books. We're definitely going to bring a few of them in."
I can't envision the warrior or rogue returning (they didn't have any personality or skills, and rogues were in d2, so would that really count as a d1 return?) that sounds like the sorcerer to me.
I think I missed that. I thought only Barbarian was coming back. Could you point me to the source? Thx :)
That's actually a good question. It was my impression that they'd all but confirmed that in a few interviews, but skimming over the media coverage page on the wiki I didn't see anything pointing clearly to a source. I should have time to start building up some of the d3 wiki pages later this week, and since I'll be rereading interviews and previews, I'll keep an eye out for this sort of info.

I am going to say against all odds that the druid will be back. Sorceress is just too obvious. Of course they'll change him, I am thinking more focus on morphing. It can even fit the lore with druids want to heal sanctuary/arreat after d2x. They might even make peace and work with thier cousins the barbs.
In my mind the Sorceress was already a return of the Sorcerer from the classic Diablo, and she shall rise again in Diablo III.
Anyway, when you want the two extremes of swords and magic it's pretty hard to do anything *other* than Barbarian and Sorceress, and what with the Horadrim being such a force in Sanctuary it's hard to see that they'd make a game without the option to play one.
As for the Druid being a longshot, I actually think it's the only other character that has a legitimate shot of making it in if it wasn't the Sorceress. The assassin is a dexy character that doesn't use really any ranged attacks at all, and the new game will almost certainly have one ranged physical attacker in it, while the Amazon just can't be male. While Auras will no doubt be in the game, I'm not sure Paladins will be. The new UI is definitely not conducive to the D2 way of casting auras, and I'm not so sure the WoW way is, either.

I think it's got to be the rogue. Rogues rogues rogues!!!
It seems like the (almost) perfect choice. Blizzard can come up with all kinds of theif-like skills: built in mana and life steal skills, goldfind skills, speed, jumping, invisibility, shots from the dark (like D&D backstab), and traps (please Blizzard, give traps to rogues instead of bringing back the VERY silly looking armored assassin--you already have a hunched over WD in the game; we don't need a hunched over assassin too).
The only problem is the rogues are from the sisterhood if the sightless eye. Sisterhood. Hmmm...how can we get some males in there...? Um....well, maybe after they got rescued in d2, they changed their ways a bit? Perhaps they needed more numbers after Blood Raven and Andariel took so many of them. Or, the male rogues can make their own guild.
The amazon is likely out because it would be hard to come up with a male version that masses of players understand. Plus, the zon was not a pure bow expert like the rogue (i.e. the zon had jav/spear skills). But rogues are perfect. We're all familiar with thieves guilds in large cities from other RPGs.
It looks like the female barb has red hair though. Does this mean there won't be another redheaded hero in our game? This does not bode well....
In any case, if there are rogues in d3 I swear to god I will only play the rogues!

Nice Originality FLUX, copy my Poll and make a small change to it.
If I did this, it would've been deleted :scratchhead:

Double post too! Ha ha ha.
Anyway, I still think it's going to be the rogue.

Want and predict are different questions. If someone had made this poll I would have sticked it instead of making it myself. Let's compare the questions though, since stats are fun. Here's the other poll, reordered alphabetically for ease of comparison.
Who do you want to return (http://forums.diii.net/showthread.php?t=683116)?
Amazon -- 10.53%
Assassin -- 21.05%
Barbarian -- 5.26%
Druid -- 15.79%
Necromancer -- 5.26%
Paladin -- 31.58%
Sorceress -- 10.53%
And this poll, as of right now with 22 voters. Who do you predict will return:
Amazon -- 9.09%
Assassin -- 18.18%
Barbarian -- not listed for obvious reasons.
Druid -- 18.18%
Necromancer -- not listed since he's been officially ruled out.
Paladin -- 31.82%
Sorceress -- 45.45%
D1 Char (Sorc, Rogue, Warrior, Monk?) -- 27.27%
No others will return. -- 13.64%
The big difference is the Sorceress. Few most "want" her to return, but most think she will. I assume a lot of those votes for a D1 char are endorsing the Sorcerer too.
The new main page layout we're working on will allow polls to be incorporated, and we can run some of these votes on a larger scale, when that's available.
and with today's info from leipzig that no other d2 chars will be amongst the 5 that we see with d3's launch... I guess I can unsticky this poll.
