View Full Version : Soulstones : tool used by demons?
Correct me if I'm wrong or if this cannot be (if I missed anything), but maybe the demons actually deliberately let them be captured into soulstones, so they could ivade (respawn in) the sanctuary?
That could explain why they [Cain] wanted the soulstones to be destroyed and why Diablo reappear.

You see, it was I who told Diablo and his Brothers about the Soulstones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world.Izual helped Diablo and his Brothers trick me into using the Soulstones against them . . . Now the Stones' powers are corrupted.
With the combined powers of the Soulstones under their control, the Prime Evils will be able to turn the mortal world into a permanent outpost of Hell!
So, yes, the demons used the soulstones to bolster the powers of the Three in Sanctuary. But we've known this for a while...
that didn't really answer his question, whether the demons let them be captured at will, and therefore were able to use the stones, or if they were captured against their will..
if you see my point?
"Izual helped Diablo and his Brothers trick me into using the Soulstones against them"
I think that's actually a pretty clear statement that The Brothers let themselves be "captured"
i only partly agree on that.. maybe that's just me.
Actually I meant that since demons "made" their soulstone, they kind of have power of what will happen to them after they're crushed, so it explains Diablo's return in DIII.
But Tyrael knew about it... so why did Cain wanted them to be desteroyed?
I think this topic is leading to nowhere lol.
Here's what I understand from the history of the soulstones. (there is a great overview here (http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Soulstone).
- The Soulstones were (possibly) cut from the WorldStone by Tyrael (not the Prime Evils)
- The Worldstone was used to suppress the powers of humans (who, from what I understand, are the descendants of angel/demon cross-breeds?)
Regardless, there is some power inherent in the Soulstones. This power is what the Prime Evils were after.
- Tyrael forged the Soulstones to use against the Prime Evils
- Izual told the Prime Evils how to corrupt the Soulstones and use their power to bridge the worlds of Hell and Sanctuary (for an invasion)
- The 3 Prime Evils arranged their own banishment from Hell to Sanctuary
- Like a sucker, Tyrael used the Soulstones to imprison the Prime Evils
- The Prime Evils corrupted their Soulstones and used that power to eventually respawn in Sanctuary and open that gate between Hell and Sanctuary (invasion time!)
- Diablo went to gather Hell's armies, but before he could finish, he and Mephisto got thwomped (sending their spirits back into their soulstones) and their Soulstones were crushed, theoretically closing that bridge, isolating Sanctuary, and sending the Prime Evils to some sort of abyss...
A few questions remain for me:
1) (obvious) What happened to Baal's soulstone?
2) (obvious) What effects on Sanctuary will shattering the Worldstone have?
2a) Will humans regain the powers subdued by the Worldstone?
2b) Will Sanctuary become visible to the legions of Heaven and Hell?
3) To where were Mephisto and Diablo banished?
3 becomes important, because if they were simply banished to Hell, the destruction of the Worldstone makes Sanctuary available to them anyway.

1. Tricky that one as Baals soulstone was broken before he could get trapped with it, hence Tal-rashas sacrifice to at least contain Baal.
2. Hmm, the barbarian lands looks shattered in the new map, it ought to be an effect of the worldstone being destroyed.
2a). Most likely but not overnight..Itīs also a nice explanation for Blizzard adding new even more powerful skills to the game perhaps?
2b). Yes...
3. To the black Abyss I guess, unfortunately we donīt know what the abyss is or how it works but we know that the prime evils was spawned there and that sometimes hellish creatures are summoned from it, summoned to hell that is...
