I found this here (http://www.maxfreak.com/diablo3/). Don't know if it's already been discovered yet, but wouldn't hurt to show it.

Jay Wilson
“We also tried to focus a little more on bringing characters back, and not just from ‘Diablo II’ but from ‘Diablo I,’” he said. “We feel like a lot of the focus is on ‘Diablo II’ but ‘Diablo I’ started it all and has a lot of really good stuff on the gameplay side and on the character side. So people can expect to see characters from ‘Diablo I,’ more characters from ‘Diablo II,’ and characters from some of the books. We’re definitely going to bring a few of them in.”

I bet you guys 10$ that one of the other 3 classes are either the warrior, rogue, sorcerror :D

This was posted quite some time ago, and what it means isn't that we'll see playable characters from Diablo 1, it means old NPC's will be making a comeback.

Good lord, I could not name one single character from D1, that is like 10 years ago. I can't even remember what clothes I wore yesterday!

d1 didnt have many characters at all, i dont see how you could forget them. personally i think its a great idea to bring back as many characters from old diablo games as possible(well without over doing it)

I don't see which characters from DI could be brought back in DIII. According to Cain, most of the people in Tristram were killed, and there weren't that many to begin with. We know for sure that Griswold and Wirt were killed. Farnham and Pepin were probably killed. The only ones I can see surviving are Adria, Pepin, Gillian and her gran. I don't think we will see any of the NPC enemies being brought back, aside from Diablo himself. I suppose they could bring the Butcher back, which would be pretty cool IMO.

That was a trip down memory lane, how the heck did you remember all of those? Only names I remembered was wirt and griswold, and those are mostly cheating since we have references to them in D2.

I'm currently playing through DI again with all the chars, starting with the Warrior. Partly because I want something to play while I wait for DIII to be released and partly to see if I can find any hints that will reveal what the storyline for DIII is going to be.

Also, the reference to Wirt and Griswold in DII is how I know for sure that they're dead. :)

Bring back the Rogue with her voice actress. The voice actress is a must.

i am betting the witch is back, i am sure of that. not sure if anyone besides her will return but i would eliminate gillian and her gran(its been 20 years). i would also eliminate farnham again cause it has been so long and how long can a man really live like he was? however he was probably the most popular npc in d1 and maybe the entire series? that leaves who? pepin? eh, rather boring but he could play the healer role again. ogden? no point really and who liked him anyway?

anyway just my opinion

Wirt is coming back. Or more accurately, parts of Wirt.

Is there some connection between Farnham and Marius? Marius was pretty wasted in the d2 cinematic. Maybe they're related. I think d3 will keep the tradition and put in some smashed townsperson to tie the whole story together.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Adria back. Being a magic user I'm sure she could use her powers to give her longer life. Or maybe she will just be really old.

Fun fact- The voice actor who did Adria's voice also did Wirt, Andariel, Blood Raven, Malah, and the Ancients.

If Farnham comes back it will make the game for me. Seriously, everything else could totally suck, but if he is used the say way we saw him in Diablo I I won't care. Farnham for the win.

Man, I miss the chain lightning on the sorcerer back in D1. Much better than D2 Chain Lightning.

I have no idea who this "Farnham the drunk" is. Must've missed him :). Where is he?

He was the drunk in the bottom corner of town. He'd shout things like "Long live the king!" or similar mishmash. If he survives over... over.... okay, I can't think of anyone else much more able bodied than him. The witch and maybe the barmaid I guess.

I don't recall that Adria was particularly old to start with, so it's not unreasonable she could still be alive 20 years later anyway. (Don't forget that there wasn't much of a time gap between D1 and D2--Wanderer defeats Diablo, stays in town for a few weeks, then heads away eastward, and the demons invade shortly thereafter and put Cain into the gibbet you rescue him from near the beginning of D2).

My favourite thing from Farnham was when you ask him about the poisoned water supply:
"You drink water?!?!"

Seriously though, there was serious implication in D2 that Pepin, Ogden, Gillian and Farnham were all killed - based on the specific placement of skeletons/corpses on the ground when you go there. Adria's little area wasn't included, and Griswold and Wirt are both obviously dead.

I thought Albrecht was the original host of Diablo during Diablo 1.

If we do visit some place close to Heaven, we could see spirits of the departed, so I wouldn't count out the majority of the people in Diablo.

It would be hilarious if he has sobered up and is the mayor of a town or something.

I was thinking she was pretty old in D1 but admit it's been a little while since I've played.

There is a skeleton on a rock in the D2 version of Tristram right about where Farnham sat in the original Diablo. I always assumed that was supposed to be Farnham, in which case he is likely dead as well. IMO Adria is the best bet since she was far from town square (Cain might not have been able to see her fate?) and she had some magical powers. Seems that her connection with magic would also make her more likely to appear in the story line as some sort of a useful (info or wares wise) NPC. Seems to me a bit harder for Gillian, her gran, and Ogdon to fit into the story, (if this thread is any indication, most wouldn't classify them as memorable enough to bring back for nostalgia sake) but Blizzard has talented story writers, so I am sure they could come up with something if they wanted to. Even one of the characters appearing as a seldom used NPC would still be a nice "throwback" to those of us that remember/played the original Diablo, and Pepin could be re-used as a healer NPC in a town somewhere, those that remember him would get it, those that didn't would just see another "new" NPC character. I suppose any of the characters could appear as a washed up person to talk to rambling about stories from when they lived in Tristram, similar to Geglash in Atma's bar in Act II, or even Farnham in Diablo I.

I could picture Wirt being clever enough to fake his own death with a mock corpse to escape Tristram.

Just be on the lookout for one-legged NPCs.

"You did WHAT with my leg?!"

i would love to see him also, and/or snotspill. to be honest they could easily cheese them back into the game as the quests were not guarenteed every time and didnt really play that much into the story, unlike the butcher or leoric

I'm pretty sure he was referencing the guy in the cow suit from Hellfire.

Seriously, it's the only one that makes sense!
