k, sorry if this is a repost, cuz i've searched the threads quickly and havent found this as a single thread idea.. plus its tedious to go through all the posts and search...

that being said....

There should be some sort of item storage system to remove muling, which is probably the single most tedious and annoying workaround to storing many items in diablo 2. Why should I have to make a handful of extra level 1 characters to store my items, when those slots could be used for actual characters I would like to play/progress with. Not all of us play multiple accounts and have multiple cd-keys (although this is probably something blizzard likes, profit wise)..

There are numerous concepts for an item storage system, so I can just reitterate a list of some suggestions.

What I personally think would work best, is an NPC that handles item storage, AS WELL as a stash. Stash is useful for quick access storage of items, such as items (gems/runes/etc) you wish to transmute, secondary equipment you like to swap around, or that 1-2 items you found recently for your friend. NPC item storage would be in regards to long-term storage, or items you are holding onto and wish to trade, or save for crafting for a later time.

Item storage via NPC should allow you almost an unlimited amount of storage space. However, if this causes problems due to database overload or whatever, you can perhaps start with 1 "page" of storage space for free, and pay either a fixed, or daily/weekly/monthly price (in gold - lets actually make gold useful for once) for additional storage "pages". Every extra storage place can cost an increasing amount of gold as well, to control excessive storage space if one wishes. So as an example, my second storage 'page' will cost me X amount of gold per day, and my 3rd storage 'page' will cost me X(x2) gold per day (or x3/4/5/whatever). Also, for those who wish to take a break from playing for an extended period of time, there should be an option for longer term payments, such as months for certain in this kind of system.

This thread is not to comment on the transfer of items from character to character, but simply to address removing the need to transfer merely for the purpose of storage. I've read other posts that suggest easier methods of transfering items, as a solution to the tediousness of storage transfer, but why not just remove that necessity completely, as suggested above.

Any opinions or comments, or expanded ideas on this one?

As perhaps a quick suggestion of discussion (something I've already thought about just now after reading my own post) is for example, what kind of penalties will incurred for not paying/missing a payment when items have alreayd been deposited in an extra 'page'. Perhaps a sum of items' values (if sold to NPC) will be used to force the payment, and you will lose those items from your storage (aka they will be junked to cover costs)...and when you are out of items in that 'page' to cover costs, that page will be removed.

Just some things to think about..

Cheers,

i just lost 2 elite torches due to time ban...
so its not only boring to mule items but also can be VERY ANNOYING, DISAPPOINTING and make people HATE the game...

I read somewhere an interview where someone from blizzard said that they would fix/remove muling system in D2. Because it isnt fun to players ;) So true.

Nice ideas for storage.. there should be some limit for max space available (besides gold amount) because some people get soooooo rich eventually.

I'm very much in favor of creating a storage, stash or bank system to hold your items. Maybe start off with one page, then purchasing additional pages in incremental amounts. 1x, 10x, 100x, 1000x, 10000x ect.... Eventually it'll come to a limit where an additional page costs too much money.

I don't mind the mule concept. However, I would like a "Shared Stash" or Mail system so I can easily transfer items to a mule. And then my mules could also have 5 or 6 pages of stash.

I have to admit, I love collecting items. It's my favorite part of Diablo games. But when the game limits my ability to collect, it gets very frustrating.

BTW, for those who play Single Player, PlugY mod has an unlimited stash that makes collecting items very enjoyable.

Great idea, except I don't like the part about having to pay daily, or over any period of time really. That would be really annoying, and being in a clutch to get gold to keep your items would force people to be glued to the computer screen until they can pay debts, i.e. scaring off casual gamers. It should be one payment in gold to get your page of storage, which rapidly increases in cost, like you said.
I think the NPC should be linked throughout an entire account though, so that instead of wasting your early gold earnings into your first items slots on new characters, you can just put all your gold towards a network of storage for the entire account, which would eliminate the need for transferring items all at the same time.

It should have some limit in size, if it gets full one should sell the less needed items. If we gonna get something decent to use gold for and if gold is gonna be some form of currency the gold we get from selling the items would be nice and save some space from the the storage.

Diablo has no really days and months. And paying for each access is just annoying. I guess paying once a very high sum of gold would be the best idea.

I see everyone's point with the timed payments. Good points at that, it would really be annoying to have to dedicate gold hunting time just to keep from losing a storage page or something.

I really like that idea of an npc storage per account, accessible to all characters in that account. After all, the same person playing multiple characters is going to share and transfer stuff anyways, so why keep it a tedious task to do so?

I wonder if any Blizzard people actually check the forums for suggestions. I bet it would vastly improve their games, and their popularity with the community they wish to create. Who wouldn't like to be part of a gaming community where the creator's of that world listen and discuss their valued input. Who's playing the game anyway? Them? Lets derive a percentage value they make of the entire community of a game.

lol... anyway, glad to see some approval and suggestions in here.. thought id go ignored as usual :P

cheers,

I just hope there is a stash tied to each character individually (large stash), and one stash tied to an account (fairly small) just to move items around to alternate characters.

I'd leave it to blizzard to figure out how to implement it

A little 2x2 Cube type thing in all your characters stash that opens to a 6x6 area (bigger or smaller would work too) That is shared amongst everyone

all i want is enough space to store every single unique and set item(if still in game), if i get that i will be happy. well shared stash is a must too, i am certain bliz knows that though

Considering everything takes only one square, this storage isn't even so big that it will fill the whole screen. This is a good rule of thumb for bag space/stash. :)

For us item collectors, there's never enough room. And even if there is, we'd complain about the organization...
