A voulge drops? Be honest now.
Polearms are just so worthless in every single game. They never look cool, there's never incentive to use them, and there's never skills that revolve around them.
Any ideas on making polearms something to be happy about? I thought about giving them twice the normal melee range or an inherent knockback. Not sure how I feel about that.

Are you kidding? Polearms are so sexy. In d2 wolves use them against players they wont need block, or in PvM. Also used by barbs in PvM. And go dig out your Diablo 2 manual and look for "Crane Tribe"

I found so many unique polearms lately I decided to start another WW barbie for polearms only. I remember they used to be quite good because of the long range, dunno if they nerfed that. But he is only lvl 21 right now so I'll lvl him a bit and see.
how about when you see a 4sox eth 15ed colossus voulge drop
I love polearms so much I hope there's an act2 merc as a playable char, or perhaps a german knecht!
3d makes polearm gameplay easier to work with too.
Two words: Charger Paladin.

I think polearms don't "feel" right in the game because they were meant to be used for certain situations in historical battles:
-hooking into armor to pull someone down from horseback. No horses in the diablo world though...
-Keeping the enemies at bay when used by a row of troops against another row of troops. Diablo has no such organization of legions plus it's mainly solo vs reckless mobs.
But you know how Diablo is: an orgy of almost every weapon included and almost every idea chucked in. There'll be unicorns riding on the backs of dragons fighting ghosts with vougles.

I'd pay good money to see a convincing depiction of that.
By the way, I'm currently playing a norm-through-hell untwinked game with a friend and we're both 2-hander paladins, with staves being the focus. I'm a holy shock paladin who basically excels at speed, with my secondary expertise being undetermined, but most likely Fists of Heaven. However, my friend is a vengeance/conviction paladin with prayer maxed to synergize with the meditation aura granted by Insight. Yes, that's right, she's a paladin currently using an insight polearm with vengeance and conviction. It does loads of damage. Her ideal weapon would be a faster staff though, and I think if there was one weakness polearms have, much like staves, it's their inability to block and they ALL seem to have a slow base attack speed. But the blocking issue is more of a core gameplay issue; frankly I've never understood why a staff, or even a sword, doesn't have some degree of attributed blocking. Hopefully D3 will address this aspect of martial combat.
The point I'm trying to make is that with the right builds polearms can be deadly. It's just that most people aren't willing to give more exotic builds a chance. But, I also acknowledge polearms are sort of like the red-headed step-child of weapon classes in D2, thus the reason why Blizzard made so many runewords specifically utilizing them in later versions.

wtf? something doesn't match here. Act2 merc and polearms, they always have spear.
Anyways polearms are and look nice on ww barbs.
