Just keep white items, socketed items (only player created see below), gems (ruby, sapph, emerald, diamond, topaz, skull), runes, and definitely focus on adding more runewords.

Add more enchanting weapon skills (like the sorceress' enchant and paladin's holy shield.

Make all runes be able to be bought in stores, unlimited stock but with with medium starting price and large increments of increase for better runes

eg.
el 1,000 or 10,000 gold
zod, 100,000,000 (i dunno)

This makes it fair for people with horrible luck. All you have to do i kill a lot of monsters collect gold, sell items they drop and you'll be on your way to getting that uber item you've always wanted.

Also get rid of rune cubing/rune upgrading, base obtaining runes on town vendors, and get rid of runes from monster drops.

This will make it so that you have to work hard to get good items, rather than just get mf gear and pwn everyone with the items u find using it.

Proposed socketing system...

Unlimited times to add sockets

eg. add one now, keep it at 1 socket, add another socket later,

limit for each item is 1-6 (depending on item)

...However...

Each socket costs 1/2 (maybe 3/4) of your exp bar.

But no such thing as deleveling so you have to keep refilling your exp bar, to add more sockets.

so higher lvl's technically mean more expensive, as takes longer to lvl when ur higher lvl.

That was painful to read in so many ways.

I don't think this would work, as it would really kill the price system we currently have. I mean, one could get any item quite easily on their own. The reason diablo stuck around for so long is its amazing trade system.

Btw, there's no such thing as luck.

What amazing system? Imo it sucks. And I've played 8(minus some breaks) years and traded most likely under 50 items. So it is not the trade system that made the game good for some.

But anyways this post is pointless.. adding more runewords? Well confirmed already that there won't be runewords.

Yea, runewords wont be there, they regreted the idea of them in D2x. :P

And just white items and sockets? What would you do, look around for a max white item, then just buy the uber sockets for it, from the MERCHANT?

That will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever... Ever, Happen.

If any game had that, I wouldn't buy it.

Unfortunately the word "No." was too short in and of itself to post.

The exp cost could be overcome by making a lev 1 chr, leveling him to near level 2, xfer white items to him, have him socket them, xfer those newly socketed items to your main guy, delete lev 1 chr, remake lev 1 chr, repeat.

But anyway, I think the idea is a bit interesting....for people who have beaten the game 300 times and after 10 years wish to play with some wacky new rules on different mode games. So there could be hc mode, sc mode, "pure" mode where you can only use what drops for you, the wacky-white mode the OP mentioned, and a whole bunch of others.

People complain about dividing up the player base, but I think this division could a good thing. If there are 120,000 players all in one mode, then shakos are going to become pretty mainstream and boring, and eventually not very valuable.

If developers don't want to divide the player base, then each of the wacky modes could be made with serious crippling rules like the OP mentioned so only a few dudes would play for comic relief and extreme challenge. I don't think the player base would get overly divided.

Wheres the 'Surprise' factor which rares, uniques etc give on item drops, thats a huge thing to take away.Ideas like that are too radical for an established series like Diablo.

I think it would be ok to have all runes for sale for insane quantities of gold that would take forever to accumulate, but not to remove them from enemy drops altogether.

Then the game would be 100% about Goldfinding, if runes are of any value still.

If you make gold that important will we see a WOW goldfarming industry spring up in the Far East for D3?

Whatever system Blizzard put into D3 there will be a way to get round it and those unscrupulous enough to exploit it.

Interesting idea about runes from NPC's but just can't see it happening and one of the biggest thrills for me in D2 is seeing that unique item drop. Remove that and you take away from what makes Diablo so good.
