Hey guys!
I was wondering if I could actually join a RWM/RRM game without downloading the mods.
I'd definitely be at a disadvantage though, but I was wondering.
Also, what happens after I install the mod? As in, can I still play with people who haven't had the mod installed?
Cheers

You can join an RRM/RWM game, BUT it will set your status to "RRM/RWM", barring you to play with people who are not using these mods ('vanilla' players).

okok... so just to confirm. Lets say i am "vanilla" and i join a RWM/RRM game. This automatically converts my D2 version into the RWM/RRM version, and I am no longer vanilla (until i uninstall/reinstall). Is that right? And if I am RWM/RRM, I can't join a vanilla game.

Can someone please confirm?
Thanks!

its not that your items or install changes by joining one of these games, its that your status on these forums change in regards to your characters and your items.

I'm certainly no authority on this subject, but my common sense tells me that as long as you don't trade or make any runewords in that RWM/RRM game you should keep your vanilla status.
Then again, I'm probably wrong. :)

By being in a RWM/RRM game you acquire the "taint" of being associated with those mods and thus your status switches (and that of your items). The only case where this wouldn't happen is during a dueling game.

edit: when I before said your items change I meant that the stats/fingerprint/whatever doesn't change but it acquires RWM/RRM status.

You can join a rwm/rrm game without installing the mods. However, from that point any character joining a rwm/rrm game, any item used on that character or found by that character in that game *or later on* will be classed as rwm/rrm.

It's a fairly complex concept of taint we have. If you wish to keep separate stashes and have vanilla (never made any contact with mods) and rwm/rrm stashes, then that is fine. Alternatively you can class all of your items/characters as rwm/rrm.

The only thing I would say is that if you decide to go totally modded but don't install the mods, do warn people if you host an MP game because they won't be able to make the rwm runewords when you host. They will of course see red runes if they have that installed.

Hope that is clear. If not, feel free to repost or PM myself and sirpoopsalot.
