View Full Version : PvP - System
This would be my ideal PvP system for Diablo III.
Ladder
(1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4)
Shows your name/rank/class/level and clan/guild/team or whatever they put in place.
Resets every season - Not sure how long the seasons should be yet
No Rewards - Just reputation and bragging rights.
Game
Custom Game
Options
Player Limit
Rules
All Classes/Specific Class Ex: palapk/asnpk
Ranked/Unranked
FFA/1v1/2v2/3v3/4v4
Replays Ex: Warcraft III
Map
Plain Map - No objects that casuse LOS (Line of Site) Ex: Blood Moor
Safe Area - Heal, Repair, Trade, Chill
Also I think multiple different maps would be cool and objective maps like capture the flag. These would be optional choices though of course.
Hostile Options
PK (Player Kill) - No timer Ex: Currently in D2
GM (Good Manner Timer) - Ex: 3, 2, 1 Duel - This would work for 1v1 duels and team/clan matches.
PK Dueling Ante - Optional

Anyway I think this would be a cool PvP System. Please post your ideas and suggestions! I wanna hear peoples opinions.

i like the ante idea. would be cool if there were a betting system in place for people watching. Could create reputation and (battle.net fame?) for those who excel in pvp if there was something to gain for people not fighting off of the people that are.
hmm sounds very kool... but what if ppl die, then auto log?

Ante system sounds like it would be fun though it could be a possible avenue for griefing. Also, tournaments with no items prizes (other than maybe visual items with no gameplay effects and possibly $ awards) would be fun if you like to make your characters with pvp in mind. It sounds like they plan on having a ladder system of some sort for pvp and also seems like they plan on hosting tournaments. Hardcore mode dueling matches and tournaments would be intense to watch and participate in though would understandably be uncommon.

I've said this before but for "arena" style duels I'd like something where the first 2 in the game get a 3,2,1,fight. Winner stays and duels the next person in line, loser goes to the back of the line. For team duels, when someone dies they stay dead, maybe they can get a chase cam on their team mates to watch, round ends when one team dies then next round begins. And i'm really big on Capture the Flag, someone suggested Capture the Cain which would be great :)
When someone is PK'd there shouldn't be any corpses, you respawn in the safe area with all your gear.
Obviously i'm stealing all these concepts from FPS mods but I think they'd work well in Diablo.
The ante option would be great but it should be a game creation option. If I join a game and just wanna have some casual duels I don't want to wait around for people to set their ante's.

i realy like this Ante window it would make players put their money where their mouth is. of course it should only be an option. if any player leaves the game they auto lose the bet. if ur realy good then u wont need the mf anymore.
The ante window needs one little tweak: you can only bet items in your inventory, not equipped items. When the bets are made, the items bet go into a separate pool. If a player d/c's, whether by accident or on purpose, they lose the item. It's a risk you'd have to take if you're going to bet valuable items.
@Grug
I Think every item should be able to be "antet", because otherwise it wouldn't be much of a bet, if it's an item you don't use. It should be all items, equipped, in stash, inventory etc. This way it will be so much more rewarding to win, and so much more painful to loose.

Some good ideas in this thread.

True, however I believe Grug's intention was such that the game itself would hold all ante'd items during the duel, so no one could try to pull a purposeful disconnect/leave/3rd party software trick that would end up with them not losing their items if they lost the duel. If the items were left in the players possession but the game automatically took them after the duel results were known, I would worry it would open the door to some shenanigans. Wasn't some of the duping on realm the result of lagging and making the server think an item was in two places at once? I could possibly see that being an issue if someone disconnects right when the game is trying to take their ante, they wind up with the item still, and the game awards it to the other player (creating a duplicate), or perhaps they could leave at a time to avoid the game being able to award it to the other player. Just seems to open the door to extra issues unless the items are surrendered before hand, IMO. But using this system if you wanted to ante an important item that you wear, you wouldn't be able to use it in the duel. Could add some extra element of taking a chance to it though. If you think you can win while not using the item you intend to ante (gloves, etc.), you could un-equip/replace with a spare and still use it for an ante.
I do like the idea of an optional ante system however. You could even let it be set so people could accept trade with no items present (similar to how someone can give an item by accepting the other person's empty window in D2 trades) to enable people to duel w/o ante even if the game was set to have antes (so long as both players agree to no antes, etc.)
Teky your idea seems spot on but i would like to add that if gold is going to be a key in trade values it would be sweet to see "gold bets". IE. 1v1 500 gold arena, each player has to deposit 500 gold to enter the arena and the winner takes the pot.. letting users set the gold limit would allow for all range of players to risk there hard earned gold...
