This grew out of a different thread while discussing D3. How many of us would like an upgraded version of D1? I would be willing to buy one with upgraded features. Do not change the entire game just add these features.

Make the auto map scalable like in D2. Right now your options are limited to no map or one that overlays the entire screen.

Add the option that allows you to push the alt button to highlight treasure drops.

Add the option that allows you to walk or run.

Add the feature that allows you to target an enemy with one click on the mouse button instead of having to keep clicking over and over.

Allow the automap to work in the village.

Just those little things would make the game hugely more playable.

To be honest I do not see why you could not do all those things with a patch.

I would pay for an "upgraded" D1, but not for the things you mentioned. Those are nice improvements, sure, and I'd be excited to see them patched in, but I don't see paying for it. If they even just fixed the various drop bugs, added some new items, and incorporated storage/stash, that would be enough for me to pay gladly.

It doesn't have to be just what I listed. Those are just the things I thought of off the top of my head. I could like a stash too. This is mainly to see interest in an upgrade. Not that Blizzard would actually do it. They will not think there is enough profit in upgrading an old game. In fact I do not know of any game design company that is willing to upgrade old games. In fact some of these companies have gone out of their way to sue anyone who even thinks of upgrading their old games. Even if they have no plans to do it themselves.

I'd say a better connection for battle.net, even games with full green bars can be hard to join.
I'd pay atleast $60 for a storage, alt key to show item drops, hold down clicking, and a better connection....

for nostalgias sake, keep the damn game as it is, i had too many good times to want to change even the worst aspects of d1.

I agree. Diablo II, in my opinion, was overpatched. The original became something totally different than the present one. Yea, there are a few things that are somewhat annoying (if you've played DII), but I think it adds to its nostalgic charm.

Many/most of those features have been enabled in various patches and mods, mostly for Hellfire, along with countless other improvements, many of them far more fundamental. If only the mod makers had known they could put in a few minor fixes and charge for it? Cha-ching...

Or hows about an improved remake of the Hellfire expansion for it. Since it's almost impossible to get HF even as a used copy.

HF allready had a few features such as the Search for drops in it.

But, a few things that would definitely make it worth while.

A. Actually be able to get XP/drops for killing Diablo. It's pretty sad. I've reached the point where I use Holy bolt to lure Big D into the maze and then use Warp so I can kill the Knights and such in his area for better XP and skip big D alltogether.

B. Faster R/W

C. Storage space

D. Wallet space for gold

E. Remove the 2 shrines that permenantly skrews up your mana.

F. No more permenant loss of HP from Black Death. It totally ruins your mood for the game when you realize to late that your hard earned stats are skrewed for life!!

it is strange that D1 is packaged with D2 and LOD in the battlechest still yet there is little support for it...

for instance, most mac users now use os x and new apps are in universal binary form; diablo 1 can't even run on many of the same computers d2 runs on...

and your suggestions are great and would be simple to include...
