View Full Version : Back to the past, D1 is still a great SP game for me.

I couldn't resist, I've restarted and finished D1 again with sorcerer.
It takes a while to adapt to 640x480 graphic, walk-only option, text shops and other things, but for those who played old games this is not a great problem.

With past D2 and D1 knowledge I was able to play all the game easily. I died only once against the usual horned moster pack in the caves (I never managed to survive their first encounter). The result char is way powerful than my messy old ones and I've found interesting uniques like the Thinking Cap (fixed with a shrine).

Even if this game lacks a lot of balanced and comfortable things, expecially for multiplayer, it's still the best. Too bad I can't change difficulty in SP!

As a final comment, a late thanks to Ulmo for the wonderful stash plugin (that made me want to replay).

:)

p.s: wow I finally saw that infamous "Constricting Ring". Well.. pretty evil in D1

You can change the difficulty in SP. Check out the bugs thread where it's listed, along with other interesting things. But I'll also repost it here.

To make a SP game of nightmare or hell difficulty, you need a multiplayer char of clvl 20 or clvl 30 respectively. Then, create a local IPX game with that character, then quit and immediately start a new single player game with your SP character. That game will be created at the same difficulty level as the MP game you just created.

The interesting thing is that you can create NM and hell games and play them in SP with a clvl 1 char. This doesn't really work for warrior or rogue because your to hit is too low and the monsters to hit is so high, along with their damage, that you usually die very quickly. But with a sorcerer you can use your spells to kill the monsters without much effort at all - it's fun getting up to clvl 7 or 8 by the end of dlvl 2. In my experience it starts to get a bit impossible at dlvl 3 or 4, especially if you spawn a level with skeleton archers or hiddens (since it only takes 2-3 hits to kill you).

Ah, thanks for info Lanthanide. I currently have a level 28 sorc, so I shouldn't have problems.

The only boring part would be making a level 20 multiplayer character again when I've already killed Diablo in easy mode 3 times (third was a rush to last levels hehe).

Err.. do you have a MP test char to lend me?
