Hey everyone, been a lurker on these forums for... erm... 10 years or so (im a long-time diablo fan), but i finally signed up to post my first attempt at a Diablo fan art piece :)
http://www.diii.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2346&size=big&cat=550
It's my first wallpaper for any game actually, i think, but I cant say im new to graphic design.
The concept was to try to fit all the classes together in one image, and i chose Tristram as the scene.
All the artwork used is stolen from Blizzard's website (i hope they dont mind :D) but there was a lot of detail-work needed to make it look like this (cutting out, adjusting hue's, saturation, levels, contrast, brightness, custom-drawing shadows to fit, etc)
I sure do hope you guys like it!
Till next time,
Elvar Steinn

Oh btw, my member's gallery (http://www.diii.net/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=330439) has more resolutions:
1680x1050 (the one posted)
1440x900
1600x1400
1280x1024
1024x768
If i were to make higher res ones i'd have to stretch the Blizzard Artwork, and since i think that normally looks pretty crap i decided not to :) Keeping it sharp this way. If you dont mind stretching, you can choose an apppropriate ratio and have Windows stretch it for you :)
SWEET, I just made it my background!
great work, I especially like how you fitted the barbarian onto the fountain
Blizzard needs more cool wallpapers like THIS
You may want to add a "light source" effect to the wizard's handheld spell, it'd really add life to the characters

Thanks for the positive feedback. I've made a second version based on your suggestion, it's in my member's gallery (http://www.diii.net/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=330439) (labeled v2).
The "light source" doesnt really cast any shadows though, since i'd have to hand paint all that in 2d (on every object/character/ground), and it'd take hours if i wanted it to look proper, so excuse my laziness :) But just beefing up the spell effect did make the Wizard stand out of the shadows a little more, competing with the barbarian for some attention. Sadly the Witch Doctor is sorta in the background still, but i really cant work better with that single piece of concept art :(
I decided not to post it in the wallpaper gallery though since it'd count as a sort of double post :) It's not very different either, but i thought your suggestion was worth a try, and the result is slightly more interesting imo...
Ya, i can understand the laziness involved in actually adding the light source work, but just touching up that spell was more than enough.
Again, great work. I understand that the WD can't really be "brought out" yet, but that'll come with time (when blizz releases some more pictures)
Oh, and totally OT, but I noticed you're form Iceland. Is Sigur Ros HUGE over there?

Coming from one of the regular wallpaper artists here, nice start, and i like V2 that extra shine added to what was needed. The cut outs for the 3 classes was good too. I know i can relate on not wanting to change images too much. Sometimes you have to. Just got to know how to blurr and blend them to make it all still look nice. Hell sometimes you just have to make your own thing when your out of content to work with.
Anyhow Welcome to the frey and the website. Hope to see more art in time friend!

Everyone know them, everyone know some songs... not everyone's a fan or like them though :) After all its very alternative music, so it has more of a "cult following" than hoards of popfans, both in iceland and around the world in whole.
Personally, I'm sort of neutral, i have a lot of respect for them, but its not my sort of music - I reckon a lot of icelanders would say something along the same lines. But yeah, we definately ALL know them and their work, so it depends on what you mean by HUGE :P

All right, just thought they'd be known in Iceland, thanks for sharing that bit of Icelandic knowledge
