I just noticed that in the Diablo 3 gameplay video at www.blizzard.com/diablo3 when they walked over the gold it was automatically picked up. Looks like that'll be convienent! Or correct me if I'm wrong?

Does sound convenient, there's no reason to not pick up gold, so might as well save you the mouse click.

If you ever played Mythos, or looked a video, they implemented this and it worked very well.

I was in the beta for Mythos - a lot of people were referring to it as an "Unofficial Diablo 3." Well, now we know that isn't true. But I do remember that, it WAS convenient.

And well, it was not 100% automatic in mythos. It was sort of like an "AoE-pickup" meaning that clicking a pile of gold also gathered any gold in range. Very nice system.

A very similar system was used in the RPG Space Siege, click "Z" and you attract all the items around you, i guess this would work in D3 for both gold and items ( since there isn't any fighting over items any more ), but i won't feel bad if it was applied on gold only and without having to click any buttons.

The universal magnet will probably not make it in, due to inventory issues. Who wants to pick up every Cracked item in the vicinity?

It worked wonderfully in Hellgate: London.

I recently was running countess and thought of this and how wonderful it would be there.

SO MUCH missed gold! I mean really, who sits there and clicks every single pile? :D

People who click quickly.

People desperate for gold (i.e. me).

Universal gold magnet sounds appealing, but I am quite certain objects other than gold, require some handwork.

Agree... One of the features I immediately picked up on and went "hmmm.. why didn't diablo 2 do this?"

glad to see it in the early D3 builds.

I believe that Dungeon Siege (the first one) was the first game to feature auto-pickup. Not just of gold, but of other items. Nowadays pretty much all action RPGs have it, together with a game option where you can specify what level of item you want auto-collected, so you don't get the cracked stuff unless you want it.

Dungeon Siege also featured an auto-item-arranger, and nowadays pretty much all games that have variable sized items have that as well.

If D3 doesn't include this, it will be a sad anachronism.

It has one slot items, don't need the arranger.

I meant adjustable auto item collect, but you're right, the post was ambiguous :)
