View Full Version : Uniques with random modifiers?

Anyone else think it would be a cool concept to have unique items that spawn with a couple of random modifiers that could be found on rare and magic items? It would be very hard for the same unique item to be exactly like another in mods hence the word unique.
Or just make rares generally more powerful than uniques like before LOD and in classic. Uniques could be nice replacements for some slots and in some occasions they could replace rare with their special mods. (openwounds crushing)

I would find a system of "learning uniques" far more appealing, whereas the uniques get two to three "free" slots, which could then be filled up by choosing between a bunch of Sidequests. Unique weapons should "upgrade" simply by fighting the Boss (who "inhabits" the desired modifier or even its direct counterpart) of the chosen quest while Armor or shield uniques could be upgraded via the questgiver, working parts (basiliskeyes, dragonhive, whatsoever) received into them.
ok... haven't thought enough on this to bring it into a working concept, but I hope you are able to grasp the idea behind it...

That would be a sweet idea! Hey maybe there should be an item called the 'Holy Chalice', and whenever you destroy a unique undead creature, it contains the essence of that undead thing, and maybe you can use it as a refillable mana potion!
Don't know where that came from, but it would be a more interesting approach to potions and whatnot.

sounds good. but then u would just have people going for the best modifier for all their uniques...

True, but isn't that the case with rares and magic items in general? The same unique could potentially fill the role for two or more builds depending on the stats that were spawned, so my concept is more of a thing to add variety and diversity to unique weapons.

Yeah in a sense, but in Diablo you can't really search for a specific item. With these quest ideas, everybody would obviously do the best quest for the strongest item mods. Making Unique items yet again the exact same.

Sure they would. Depending on the gamestyle of their character, that is. See it as an hellforge for itemmods. Just with one to two dozens (or even more) different hellforges with different settings and difficulties.
But I think MAnBearPig commented on the original idea, not the one more appealing to me ;)

Yeah I was Silver, therefore Edairu throw out you argument that all Uniques would be the same in regards to my concept. Edairu kinda just answered for me whether or not I think the quest idea would be a good idea, but I dunno it could work with some modification to how the system would work.

Make unique items have "slots" for people to add whatever modifiers they want through crafting/scrolling.

Just to throw it in: Blizz told us something about a pool of quests randomly chosen ;)
