Hi guys,

Time I fessed up...

Had her pic (the one from official D3 site) as my desktop for a while...

I've got a thing for redheads...

Anyone else agree or am I just plain weird :whistling:

Actually you haven't seen how women on steroids look like (and you better not attempt to .. "what is seen can't be unseen" .. believe it *cries* )

The Barbarian female (specially in-game not in the art) looks perfectly natural and healthy albeit a little muscular .. which is something normal since females have testosterone for natural muscle building ... so yes there can exist a natural looking beautiful female with a strong body (like many athletes) ... probably Norse women where two times as strong and as large as any of us.

Yeah, me. She looks great in-game.:loving:

Totally agree ... that's one of the rare occasions in gaming when the actual game model exceeds the game art in terms of quality and beauty.

I would prefer a true Barbarian, older like his male companion... but the female character looks fine for me.

I prefer her with more brute aspect, but it's not too bad :D

Looks ok, IMO.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but current norse women (Swedes, Norwegians & Danes) are just as weak as other countries =P

Also I definitely agree with OP that she's hot =)

Indeed, you are right (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse). However, I know that it has been mentioned as synonym for the same Nordic countries on occasion in modern times.

I would assume it's mostly meant as humorous anyway.

Which is exactly what my previous post was meant to be ;)

Leord, I believe he is talking about historical Norse, since he typed "where", which has no significance in that post, but most likely meant "were".

Sigh ... yeah, it is quite obvious, i just type too fast and even proof read faster ... so no need to act like a grammar Nazi.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but current norse women (Swedes, Norwegians & Danes) are just as weak as other countries =P

Burst my bubble .. lols, because the Barbarian female represents a girl from down town Stockholm not a Norse woman from the middle ages .. seriously ... i said they "were" .. in past tense (i know i made a typo but it still was quite obvious)

Regarding Norse women, i found this in an online article it sounds quite funny .. it's about Norse women.
She had only done what she had to do. Thord knew that which we should all learn: do not mess with Norse women. They will cut you.

So i think Blizz really made a nice choice with their portrayal of the Barbarian Female the way she is ^_^

Well .. there is nothing weird about appreciating beauty in any form or shape ... nobody mentioned sleeping with a 2D person or marrying a character made of pixels (although this is becoming a trend in japan .. not kidding ... for real .. but that's another story XD)

I don't find anything weird about what the OP said ... being an artist myself i know very well how to appreciate beauty of any form or variety .. and each type of beauty has a way for appreciating it .. if anyone is weird it's those who can't appreciate beauty and only think all the time about their pants *no offense*

female barbarian's thighs, or Chun Li's Thighs? mmh, i can't decide...

of course it is alright to fantasies fictional characters, everyone needs a little room for their imagination... what do you think makes tomb raider's posters to flood our magazines for years, you really think it is because of the Tomb Raiding activities? like if.

strong, pissed-looking girl characters are always appealing to some, like me. the barbie doesn't get me but if I have to I'd choose her over the wizard.

and I will always have a little special thing for Jessica Rabbit....

Well there's strong and then theres just plain over the top and thats what the female barb is, over the top.

This whole idea that females have to be bulky to be "strong" is just plain false and ridiculous. Females lack the testosterone levels of males which makes this bulking up almost impossible without extreme measures like man made chemicals such as steroids. Even women who weight train 3 days a week still retain their curves. And I rather like that fact!

Most of a womens strength is in her legs not her upper body. I am talking about natural women here. Its funny to watch volleyball players out squat some dudes at the gym.

I blame the female barb look on three things -Frazetta paintings, modern steroid use and protein supplements, and not wanting a another amazon type character.

This female barb is way to ripped.

she's attractive in the sense that i wouldn't never say she's not my type. but having said that women that are muscular (but not "barbaric") are attractive. hate to bring it up but like devon michaels.

Artist's name is Don Flaws (http://donflaws.blogspot.com), by the way.

Also interesting that the developers apparently decided against this draft:

...and rather went for that more generic (dare I say worn out), heavily 'Red Sonja' inspired character design.

I don't think that it's at all strange that that you have a thing for the female barbarian. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a large muscular woman.

Apparently quite a few people find the female taurens attractive, which I'll never understand. I don't care what anyone says though, the the female and male models for Night Elves are both cute.

They're called furries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom).

Speaking of hot, female Barbarians, did anyone else watch Dungeons & Dragons 2?

I highly doubt that. And if that were true, then that'd have more to do with the fact that most people nowadays are physically lazy rather than inferior genetics.

The guys at your gym must be pansies, or the women train much, much harder because it's a scientific fact that men have more absolute strength than women (in their legs, arms, etc.), this is due to higher amounts of testosterone (which affects all muscles and the brain). Also, the current world record for squatting is held by a man and has always been held by a man. http://jap.physiology.org/cgi/content/abstract/71/2/644

I really hope they go back to their dark haired female barb design! I like those pictures better than the stereotyped 'angry red head'.

So what will be the n1 choice for female players? Todays women wanna be young, sporty/thin, have nice clothes, feel sexy and wanted. Whats the diablo character that meets those criteria? Witch doctor is old and unpleasant, Barbarian is half male and Wizard... maybe perfect? I may get some flame from any female here :p

Altough you will undoubtably be called sexist and whatnot. Given how the models in WoW looked in the alpha and how they look now, it would seem that for the female characters looking good is more important. Whether this is because of the male or female fanbase..., I always wondered.

But the female characters went from 'not our standard for beauty' to something that was more in line with what everyone expects. Sure, not everyone thinks the female tauren model is attractive, but if you compare it to the alpha version there is a world of difference. (All can be found on YouTube) The troll model also underwent some radical changes.

But more ontopic.
When you look at the barbarian female model you can see that she is very muscular, rather big and all, but all the femine traits are still there. The upperbody isn't as big as you would expect, the waist is also very feminine. This is not how a muscular woman looks like in real life (google "woman and steroids") but rather a more muscular form of someone with extreme feminine characteristics.
concept art (http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/6440/dsc00558k.jpg)
The hips are wide, shoulders not wider than the hips, the waist is thin, the breasts are big and very high and she has long legs.
Whereas this is a woman on steroids
woman on steroids (http://www.steroidstoday.com/steroids/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/women-steroids.gif)
Masculine traits are very clearly visible, broad shoulder, narrow hips (when compared to the shoulders) and the feminine traits are masked by the sheer bulk of muscle.

So seeing as how the barbarian women are portrayed in the game and in the concept art, it is not surprising as how people can find it (or the idea of it) attractive to look at.
But does it mean anything......

I commend Blizzard for making the female version of the Barbarian physically imposing as opposed to making them look like 100 lb supermodels that are just as adept at swinging colossal weapons and wearing heavy armor as their much more muscular counterparts. Sometimes I wonder why game developers bother giving male warriors/fighters muscles, if they’re going to just make their female counterparts just as strong except without muscles.

I'm easily pleased?

The face (in the concept art) does indeed look a little... less friendly than I remember, but the body type (apart from the muscles) looks very feminine (and thus attractive).

You know... Blizzard emphasized that the barbarian is now a veteran of the events in D2:LOD and showed that in-game by adding gray hair and wrinkles to the male barb.

Why isn't the female barb an aging woman, someone like Malah?

Keighvin
18-06-2009, 00:38
Because there was no option to play a female barb, and since each character should have it's own backstory, only the male barb is old.

Because when it comes to playable female characters people value sexy over muscles, experience, et cetera. From my experience, more often than not, female players like to play sexy characters and the virtual drag queens do as well. It's counterinutive, but that's the way things are. Just the other day I was reading a thread on the Age of Conan (lackluster MMORPG) forums written by a woman who claimed to have quit because female character clothing wasn't sexy enough. I see that kind of thing all the time and while I think it's stupid that's just how people are.

Then, why did Blizzard make the female Witch Doctor pear shaped (http://www.diii.net/gallery/data/563/medium/Witch_Doctor_Armor_Concepts.jpg) rather than the original, more hour-glass-shaped (http://www.diii.net/gallery/data/563/medium/Diablo_Raneman007c.jpg) concept art?

We can only hope that these models will remain and don't follow the original female horde members from WoW...

The female still looks a lot prettier than the male Witch-doctor, so it's halfway between both... (plus maybe some blizzard employees like pears :scratchchin:)
