Just wanted to point out the new runes in this new SS:

Viper and Hydra runes, along with another unidentified.

Any thoughts?

Bashiok said that Hydra and Viper are renames of Multistrike and Lethality, respectively. He also said that Power is being renamed to Force.

Any ideas as to the 'square' prefix on the chipped emerald?

Ignore the square prefix, cause every gem is different... in the screenshot with the magic quilted armor, there is a star chipped sapphire... So if i were to guess, then the shape is unique to the gem it is, So a Star Chipped Sapphire is the same as a Square Chipped Emerald (being the same grade of quality)... later they could become Flawless Star Sapphire or Flawless Square Emerald...

A nickname of mine is Viper. Whee, me=lethality?

Randomness aside, I like Hydra and Viper, but Force Rune? Sounds a little silly to me, but I'll live, I guess.

Hydra and Viper sounds more like skills rather than for runes.

Yeah, that idea popped up here, too. In fact, Hydra should make a return in D III :scratchchin:
Maybe they'll make Hydra a pointless skill again, making it a moot point.

It's returning, as a Wizard's skill.

Then why even have the prefix?

That's what I said; "should" as in "they said it would"

Somehow, I always fail to get my point across properly the first time around ...

I'm pretty sure that the shapes of Gems have to do with the new socket system. Perhaps you can only put gems in a slot that has a matching shape, and each gem has different powers.

Let's say you have a Staff with a Star slot. you have a Circle Ruby, a Star Topaz, a Square Emerald, and a Star Sapphire. You could put the sapphire or topaz in, because they're the right shape. Perhaps the shape implies a certain benefit, like Star gems have a bonus to mana or casting speed, while Square Gems increase defense.

I was thinking something similar to having different socket shapes. This would add another layer of randomness to things like 'jewels' and gems.
